Well the way i see it is blackfire is right as you asked 'which glass is MORE contaminated', NOT which one has the greatest volume. Although the two glasses still have the same volume of liquid, the wine glass would be more contaminated.

The "More contaminated" is there just to throw people off.

The water glass contains as much wine as the wine glass contains water. They are both equally contaminated because they both have the same volume, and there is nothing added, or taken away....

Why are we even debating this? Cant we just accept the answer and get on with life?

Look back to my post for a mathematical proof that they have equal contamination after mixing for 10, 15, and 20 teaspoons to start with. If you want, I can give you a general formula that shows you that no matter the original amount of water and wine, as long as the amount in both glasses is equal to begin with then they will have equal contaminations after mixing. Or you could just take my word for it.

Its a question the question askes which is more contaminated i gave the correct answer and you know it. It askes nothing about the volume so there shouldn't be any answer to do with volume.

And jagori when trasfering the wine over to the water you would be moving part of the water back so it dosn't work out matamathically.

No.... To put it simply, we will use the term A/B A=Wine, B=Water

When 2 transfers are done, we wind up with 9/1 in the wine glass, and 1/9 in the water glass. They are BOTH EQUAL IN THEIR OWN RESPECTIVE PARTS....

Wine has 1 part water, 9 parts wine
Water has 9 parts water, 1 part wine.... DO THE MATH!

They are not equal not even in there own ways. When you transfer A over to B you get an A/B solution. B is now diluted so now when you transfer B over to A you are taking some of A with you.
A + B = A/B
A/B + A = A/B/A
A/B/A does not equal A/B They are of differen't quantities.

OK... math time folks.

Glass A has x teaspoons of water (referred to as a). Glass B has x teaspoons of wine (referred to as b).

Glass A: (x)a + 0b
Glass B: 0a + (x)b

Now, we take one teaspoon from A and put it into B. That gives us:

Glass A: (x-1)a + 0b
Glass B: 1a + (x)b

Note that glass B has a total of (x+1) teaspoons in it. Glass B consists of x parts wine, and 1 part water... so a teaspoon of glass B will be (1/x+1)a + (x/x+1)b.

Putting this into glass A, we get:

((x-1) + (1/x+1)a) + (x/x+1)b
= ((x^2 - 1 + 1)/(x+1))a + (x/x+1)b
= (x^2/x+1)a + (x/x+1)b

Glass B is left with:

(1 - 1/x+1)a + (x - x/x+1)b
= (x/x+1)a + (x^2 + x -x)/(x+1)b
= (x/x+1)a + (x^2)/(x+1)b

Final situation:
Glass A: (x^2/x+1)a + (x/x+1)b
Glass B: (x/x+1)a + (x^2/x+1)b

You'll notice that the amount of a in glass A is the same as the amount of b in glass B. Same goes for the b in glass A and a in glass B. In other words, equal contamination. Plug in ANY number for x and this will work. PROOF that they are equal after the mixing, without getting the wine and water from anywhere but the glasses themselves. Enjoy. Now, can't we get on to the next puzzle?

Jagori you should have posted the whole mathamatical bit beforhand my mind works better when i'm given numbers. Sorry about the whole thing I realise now I was wrong I think it would be best for me to explore the whole question in all ways possible before I post next time but thats for sticking with me and showing me how you came up with your answer.

To bring this back to the current puzzle (Yep, I'm still here) I'll ask some questions:

Was he an authority figure? Another Policeman, the Chief, even the President/Mayor?

Is the criminals room impregnable? Like, is he in a castle, or something of the sort?

No, the criminal does not have any authority status.

His room is not impregnable. It would be possible for the police to force their way into his room.

Hmm.. If her birthday is December 31, and "today" is January 1....
Then two days ago would be December 30, and she'd be 17. Yesterday she turned 18... at the end of this year, she'll be 19, and then next year she turns 20. Hopefully the definition of 'next year' is loose enough to fit that way

The deadly block of wood

A man lies dead inside a trailer. he has shot himself. Close by him is a piece of wood. It is a plain piece of wood about 2 ft long by 1 inch wide. The wood carries no writing or other markings and yet, it is apparently obvious that the sight of this piece of wood today caused the man to commit suicide. Why?
