| i don't know... i think that's part of the problem of why ban's lose there permanance. it only encourages the banned party to hang around the boards and are probably a hell of a lot more likely to attempt to get unbanned. i still contest that ban should = ban. and another thing: if i ban someone from my board, it's not like "oh, slap on the wrist", it's more like "fuck you, i don't want you at my site. still use my software's services, are you joking? go fuck yourself" (edited by Gavin on 05-05-05 02:49 PM) |

That's mostly what IP bans are for ... of course, a powerlevel -2 could be added (block access to the whole board), but there's still a way to logout and access the board anyway as a guest  |

| just for clarification's sake, this isn't directed for specific already banned memebers (unless you count knuck, because he sucks 7 cocks on top of sucking hard in regards to PHP), it's more just a plea for common sense. frankly i just think the whole situation is silly, and would expect myself to be banned permanantly just like anyone else. another point to add on top of that: i don't give two fucks if i'm banned or not, unlike some other whiney bitches who have nothing better to do in their lives. |

| Well, I guess if there's the mildest possibility that a ban may be unfair, it's probably fair that they have a chance to speak their case. But I certainly see your point too, and yes, a permaban should be permanent. I could not agree with that sentiment more actually. Considering a Ban is *the* definitive punishment the staff on a forum can dish out, I think it has to be taken as seriously as possible, right down to users having a right of protest if it's unfair, but if it's not unfair that that punishment be followed through completely. |

Nothing wrong with temporary bans sometimes, personally I'd keep the permanent ones for lamers that just spam and don't want to contribute anything good ... or at least that's how it was in 2001, when even Pikawil barely got a 1 week ban for a spam thread, and the first real ban was a total spammer (4 months after the start) personally, whoever unbanned knuck is a freaking idiot. it's the exact reason why there is so much bullshit middle school drama on this boardThat's probably what he was talking about ... a month and half later, we got all this drama that had nothing to do with knuck  |

| it's the attitude that someone like knuck would deserve another chance that leads to bullshit. giving an unambigous stance, leaving bans open like revolving doors perpetuates drama, in my opinion. i only decided to bring up knuck because it is my understand that legion and kuck were calling me bad names and said that i should be banned  . my argument: umm.. okay. go ahead. it's funny because it doesn't mean anything to me, and it obviously means so much to him. personally i still contest that legion is cool and i didn't even pay attention to the specific of why he was banned, but he thinks i'm a douche. oh well, shit happens.it just sucks that people like ziff leave, and everyone else who sucks stays . i'd trade people like that returning for me being banned. i don't have dellusions about myself, i don't pretend to be funny, nice, or a contributing member of the board. but hey, at least i'm honest. |

| Personally, I think that the option of temporary bans needs to be given more thought, and permabans left for the absolute worst offenders (and be permanent). If I were given the choice (and frankly I'd prefer not to be) I'd save only permabans for the absolute worst spammers, lamers, flamers, etc. I just think that there should be some consistency really, but that's easier said than done on a large board with a large staff. |

| Yeah, seems you'd just have to resort to an IP ban for a "ban = ban" situation here. What I don't understand, is the whole "Requested Ban" ordeal here. Pretty ... pointless, in my opinion. I don't know why staff allows it either. On my board, and it's only been requested once, I just told the person to "leave" and wipeout there profile or something. I agree for the most part... Those who are banned shouldn't be able to do anything except PM admins about why they're banned, and if they abuse that, then ban them from that too. And only admins. Maybe then there'll be less LMs/FMs being bugged about it.  |
