Mario-like? Oh, I guess it is really bad to have things not be flat, stupid looking pixelized mushrooms with eyes anymore? Seriously, what is Mario-like? Because if you mean "closest to SMB1" then the Mario RPG series is absolutely horrible. And besides, you'd have to compare everything to Donkey Kong! OMG MARIO CAN'T CARRY A HAMMER IN SMB1!!! That's not Mario like, is it? Oh, and keep in mind that I don't have anything against you or your opinion. I just wanted to have clarity on what you meant, and I went overboard

Well, look at MOST of the Mario games, both pre- and post-SMW (SMW2, SM64, even SSBM). What are Goombas supposed to do when you stomp on them?

A) Flip over
B) Get flattened

Not that hard. You know you want to pick B. This wouldn't normally be a big deal, but there are a LOT of Goombas in SMW, if memory serves...

I don't think there is a right answer to the question you asked. Yea, TYPICALLY, they get squashed. But I quite frankly think it is more fun to flip them over and throw them

I prefer koopa shells to projectile goombas, myself. Especially in SMB2 and SM64, when you can surf on 'em.

The White Block (hide behind it) was an interesting idea in SMB3, too. Without a guide or an instruction manual, that's the sort of thing you just won't find out about. I don't see many people who duck for extended periods of time in that game unless they know about that...

I don't think SMW had anythign like that, though it did have the level in Chocolate Island that changed based on your coin count and time remaining, that was pretty interesting.

SMW always confused me with "What's the difference between a big yellow dot and a small one?"

SMB3. The only good thing SMW had over SMB3 was the cape, and the flexible overworld.

HatehatehatehatehatehatehateHATE! That blasted cape made many levels far too easy. Levels that normally might be vaguely challenging (Forest Secret Area, for example) become a breeze with the cape. I know, the obvious solution is to just not use it, but there are many things one couldn't do without some flying...

... perhaps a small hack to remove the gliding could help... *heads over to SMW hacking*

In SMAS in some level is double BG.
For example in 1-2 , hill is shrolling (I hate this word) and cloud is shrolling slowly.
But in SMW is always one BG in level.

Both, are easily my favorite Mario games, and both are completely memorable.

But, I have to go with Super Mario Bros 3. I played it when I was like, 4 years old, so I grew up with that game. It has all the powerups, the awesome worlds, awesome themes, Kuribo's Shoe, etc.

And, I love the Cape, but I'm sorry, the Tanooki Suit / Raccoon Tail is far cooler.

No complaints about Super Mario World though, great game too.

I believe it was 5-3.

SMB3 in SMAS had more of a 3D feel with the clouds and pillars and stuff. SMW kinda felt... a little flat.

The shoe frickin rules. If only I could keep it after the end of the level...

Hmmm...you expect me to decide between my two favorite Mario games?

On the one hand, you have SMB3, with zillions of levels in a variety of settings, an inventory, and a lot of super-cool power-ups like the Hammer Brothers suit. On the other hand, you have SMW, which has less levels, but a lot of secret levels, exits, and even two secret worlds. Not to mention, SMW is the game that introduced everyone's favorite long-tongued dinosaur, Yoshi.

Hmmm...I'll have to go with SMB3 though, because it has more history, at least in my life. When I was younger, I would play SMB3 almost constantly, often for several hours at a time. We didn't even get a SNES until 1999.

SMB3.

I could say why I like it over SMW, but every other post has covered that, so I'll go for the one feature not mentioned: I prefer the item storage system of 3 to world anyday. I didn't enjoy the reserve box.
