I thought I'd go ahead and share this regretful past of mine here today, in this post.

I once had a Sega Genesis / CD attached. The games I owned with it were:
Sonic CD
Jurassic Park CD
Ecco the Dolphin CD
Rister
Sonic Spinball
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic and Knuckles
Vectorman
Comix Zone
Earthworm Jim
Toejam and Earl 2

Also had 2 regular controllers, and 6 button Superpad thing.

This was around the time the Saturn, N64 and PSX were extremely new, so all of these games and the system still had great value. (I was in maybe, 5th or 6th grade)

My family decided, we were going to have a garage sale. The N64 came out, and well I really wanted one, and was willing to sell everything above for games and such, since "I didn't play it anymore".

It turned out I was going to be gone that day of the Garage sale, so I gave the system, 3 controllers, and all the games to my mom to handle. The Price? My mom said she would handle it.

I had a great time spending the night at my friends house, as usual.

Then I got home, quickly went up to my mom asking how much money I made for the system, and everything with it.

"10$ Dollars".

I think I almost died.

Have a story, that would be worse than that?

And well I've started up with my Genesis collection now. I bought a Genesis, Vectorman 1 and 2, and Ecco the Dolphin all for about $20 ... so I'm off to a good start. But, that's more than double of what my mom had put up for all of the above, about 10 years ago.

Ugh. Never let your parents sell your stuff.

Had an SNES....games were..hmm..ah yes:

Super Mario World
Mario Paint (mouse/pad included!)
Yoshi's Island
Zelda: Link to the Past
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 AND 3
Inspector Gadget (...don't ask)
Super Mario AllStars
Super Gameboy
The Lion King (again...don't ask )
Mario Is Missing (I had NO idea what it was at the time )

I sold all of this, plus 2 controllers, for...70 bucks in FUNCO LAND STORE CREDIT. Which i put towards a playstation in which i bought 3 shit games and Rival Schools, later realizing that it was NOT worth it just top play Rival Schools every other decade (though I do tend to miss that game, but I'm over it ) I later sold said PSX for yet another snes, this time gaining a whooping 100 bucks in store credit from GameStop in which i bought an snes, 2 controllers, DKC, SMW, and FF3...HARDLY makes up for the loss, but I'm starting to slowly regain my collection. I've bought Kirby Super Star some time last year, and next I plan to get my hands on SMRPG and Harvest Moon. Despite this, my loss, though entirely by stupidity on my part, was indeed tragic.

here is the saddest story ever:
i bought a N64 two years ago for $100.00 when i could have gotten a PS1 for $80, and with a game.

My cousins borrowed my third NES unit.

It was my favourite one. I drew on it with markers, I loved it that much.

It came back with a broken copy of Double Dragon II

I never understood the attraction to trading in games. You get such little credit towards new stuff that it's more worth it to keep the old stuff and save up your money for a while longer. I can understand a game that you're not fond of, but when this is stuff you you like...

Emperor Ziffatine: I assume you lent out a working copy of Double Dragon 2 with the NES that was returned broken? I wouldn't mind getting a broken DD2 back with my NES if the DD2 wasn't mine, especially since it could probably be fixed.

And why would someone pay $100 for an N64 with no games 2 years ago? Sounds like a ripoff, honestly.

As for me, I don't really have any sad tales besides one of my more recently acquired expensive old games having a problem I don't know how to fix yet that basically ruins the graphics in the second half of the game. Goody.

I blame the following on my older "more mature" brother.

A few years ago, before the Gamecube and new systems, we still played our SNES. We had recently gotten a Playstation, so we didn't play the SNES that much... well, at least my brother didn't. I still played Pokemon on the Super Game Boy.

One day, my cousin got a new SNES, one of the brand new designs (the one that was more rounded). He didn't have any games for it, so we decided to lend him some games for a while. Unfortunatly, my brother didn't take too kindly to this. He threw a fit. He didn't want to lend any games to him and he said it...

"Let's just give him the games then. Its not like we play them anymore."

Sure, let him say that, the only game he had was Mortal Kombat 3 and he didn't give that up for the M rating. My games included the following:

Super Mario World
Megaman X
DKC
LoZ: Link to the Past
Raiden Trad
Tetris Attack (I ALMOST KILLED HIM BECAUSE OF THIS GAME ALONE!)
Starfox
Super Ghouls n' Ghosts

There were a whole bunch more that I can't possibly remember, all which I lost for no profit whatsoever. Not even a penny. The only games left were Super GameBoy and Super Mario All Stars (which we found in the closet the next day, yet thrown in there by my brother). All because my brother has an attitude.

The only game I actually got back was Zelda and that was a few months ago. I just need a new controller and I would go back to playing the SNES again.

Oh, and in Link's Awakening, somehow one of my saved games got corrupted and made all the graphics disappear minus sprites. I didn't know how to fix it either... unitl I remembered to delete EVERY SAVE FILE! That kind of sucked... as one data was 100% completed...

Alas, Funcoland has been good for me. I got a whopping $200 in credit for a PSX I hated, worn out and broken Crash Bandicoot games, random accessories for the Sega Genesis I didn't care about, and... about the only games I missed, were a few Sega Genesis ones. Though I have no real sad tales; I still have the original Genesis, which I got when it was new... there is a rather... annoying tale. Here's what I realized had happened...

I rented Mario Party 2 from Blockbuster. I returned the box... and found, 3 months later, Mario Party 2... I was horrified! The box was gone. So, I returned it... they didn't charge me, 'cause there was no record... we were all confused. Why was there no record of it? They showed that it had been returned...

Several years later, I discovered it was because I accidentally returned my Super Mario 64 cart instead!!!

Another "older brother" tale here.

If all was well, I'd have this:

NES + 2 controllers
Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Snake Rattle 'n Roll
Puznic
Wrecking Crew
Digger T Rock (I think it's called)
+ many more

SNES + 2 controllers
Super Mario World
Castlevania: Dracula's Kiss
Super Castlevania IV
Super Metroid
Equinox
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evemore
Terranigma
Illusion of Time
Shadowrun
Dr Mario + Tetris
Plok
Yoshi's Island
Zoop
Earthworm Jim
Earthworm Jim 2
Aero the Acro-Bat
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario Kart
Donkey Kong Country
Bubsy
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Super Contra
Road Runner
Zombies
Ghould Patrol
Parodious
The Flintstones: Treasure of something...
+ more

N64 + 2 controllers
Mario 64
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Donkey Kong 64
Rayman 64
Tonic Trouble
Castlevania 64
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Perfect Dark
Paper Mario
Star Wars: Racer
Earthworm Jim 64
+ 1 or 2 more

PSX + 1 controller
About 30 pirated games
and 10 non pirated

GBA
Golden Sun (i borrowed this from a friend)
Castlevania (the first one of the GBA lot)
DBZ: LoG (sucked, i know)

NGC + 1 controller
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Zelda: Windwaker
Wave Race
Starwars uhh... That game. Rogue something
Turok
Metroid Prime
Starfox Adventures
i think maybe 2 more

All of this was stolen by my brother to pay for his pot addiction. Wouldn't have a clue on how much I spent over the years on all of them. Now that I don't live with him, I've started on the DS.

He's also broken a monitor, keyboard, many of my PC's driver's disks and other stuff. He pawned my TV and $400 musical keyboard too, which I had to pay to get out.

The only game I ever gave away was Gremlings 2, and I never liked that game much. The only game that I somewhat broke was Civilization II CD, and recently I realised that the CD was just little dirty... after 8 years or so.

And heh, my dad found a nice american SNES for 10$ with games in a garage shop...

...seriously, parents usually have no idea what things are really worth. They tend to sell things that costs over 1000$ for 50$ or so.

The worst things that happened to me were my Link's Awakening DX cartridge getting fucked up by the sun when I was up to the seventh dungeon, and my SNES getting a huge-ass hole in it. I have no clue how that last one happened, mind you. The SNES still worked for a while, too, so it wasn't that bad...

Well, there was my NES with gravel in it. One of my cousins (the adults, in fact) got mad at his sister and threw his NES out the door into the gravel driveway. The NES still worked, but he didn't know that. He gave it to me, I had seen NESes getting fixed before (for the exact same reason), so I figured I'd be able to take care of that; if nothing else, it was a free NES. I couldn't fix it, we didn't have the right tools, but it worked for a while. After a while, though, every time I tried to play SMB3, the curtains from the startup screen were replaced by red clouds. Needless to say, things got unplayable pretty quick.

But yeah, compared to the stories here, those are nothing. cpubasic, Scatterheart, if you decide to kill your brothers, lemme know. I'll see what I can do to keep you from going to jail for it. As for your mother, Xeo... honestly, I'm gonna have to pin the blame on you, there. It's been my experience that parents don't know much about video games and therefore are not the right people to handle the selling of them. Of course, this sort of thing can work to your advantage...

*thinks about when he sold his N64 and a few games to his aunt for damn near $200* Heeheehee...

You guys want to hear a tragic story? I have two.
First off, my SNES. I loved it. I played mario kart everyday. My dog pissed in it. >
Secondly, I broke my Genesis with a hammer one day. the tragic part of that is I lost the hammer.

The worst game related story I have is the time when I played through Final Fantasy VIII multiple times. I kept missing important items and such, and kept restarting my game over.

As soon as I got everything right, and met up with the final boss, my entire memory card got erased.

I did almost the exact same thing when I wanted a n64 back when it first came out, but we sold:
SNES, 3 controllers and all these games:
Super Mario World
Super Mario Allstars
Final Fantasy 2
Final Fantasy 5
Earthbound
Super Mario RPG
Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2
Zelda: Link to the past
and like 1 or 2 more I think...but I never got any of them again....except for smw and lttp...but that was definently stupid.....got those when I was young, and they were all bought new...they were only 3-4 years old when I sold em...and only got like $50 or something...wish I never did that.

Christmas morning many moons ago. I received two shiny (as in GOLD) NES games in the form of The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link, respectively. So, I play Zelda for a bit, and then I play Link for a bit. Then I want to play Zelda after... and the game won't start up. At BEST, it displays garbage with a flashing screen - at worst, it does nothing.

I put Link back in, that works fine. OK. So it's a problem with the Zelda cart. Clean it, nothing happens. Clean the system, still nothing.

Finally, we had to send back the Zelda cart a few days later to Nintendo. I wasn't too happy since, you know, it was fricking ZELDA and all.

6 weeks later, Nintendo happily sends along a brand new Zelda game (with bilingual instructions this time - so it was a later revision most likely since I think the first one was the original... ) and all was fine until I got stuck on Level 2 in the Second Quest and was stuck for months until Nintendo Power explained that you could walk THROUGH walls. But that's another story.

Never lend out games to people. Never ever. I should have learned after the first time, but no, it's happened a bit... theft, duh.

I used to live in Chicago... this guy was a good friend of mine, wanted to play Earthbound, and so I let him borrow it. I never saw him in lunch periods anymore, nor did he answer his phone, nor could I ever get into his house. What the hell he did after I gave him EB I might never know.

Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. The original. To another kid in Chicago, but I didn't know him as well. Should have figured I would never see it again.

....Pokemon Red. Ok, it wasn't stolen but... well, I went through this entire game (I was only like 8 or 9...) and was about to beat it. In fact, I was on Gary (this was exciting for me as a youngster!). Well, I had to go with my dad to the market, so I left the game there hoping the batteries wouldn't run out. I came back to find that my mom was playing it, had started a new game and named the Charmander "Andres" just like my name, and then had saved! I don't play Pokemon Red much anymore... and with good reason, may I add.

a week ago, my buddy and i were playing X-men 2: wolverines revenge. although we have three wavebirds, we still insisted on using the regualr controller. As far as we are in the hardest and most annoying level, our laziness hypnotizes us into mvoving the gamecube closer so we can leaning back in the couch. pop! out comes the power. oh hell, just turn it off.

sad 1: power cord pops out

sad 2 : owning X-men 2: wolverine's revenge

sad 3: still playing it.

This is nothing compared to the stories of getting entire collections wiped out, but as long as we're sharing...

I brought a 3-in-1 NES cart (SMB, Duck Hunt, and that Power Pad track game) to elementary school and some fuckball stole it out of my desk. I never found out who did it. I did eventually buy the 2-in-1 cart from my cousin, but I never replaced the Power Pad game (or used that peripheral again for that matter, but that wasn't really a big loss )

I lost two or three games to someone. I forgot what they were called because it happened a year ago. That guy was my friend and he claimed he had no games exept for the one he let me play. I let him borrow my 2 or 3(forgot) games and I never saw him again... I tried calling him and he was grounded. Wasn't at school. I was so pissed off.

Edit: And another thing. I remember being really far in Pokemon Blue. I used GBC and used the color mess up feature thingy. IT ERASED THE GAME DO NOT DO IT! I was so far. I got up to that point again but my Pokemon sucked the second time around and I couldn't beat it. Then I gave up. Yes, too lazy to train.
