People that you think are your friends, but they "turn" on you, mocking you or abandoning you.

I can think of two people who are perfect examples of this.

Hate is a pretty strong word, and a very destructive emotion, and to tell the truth, I don't think I really hate anybody. There are people I dislike, and there are people that I do not get along with, but there is nobody I dislike strongly enough to call it "hate".

There are some blanket "pet-peeves" I have about people, but I couldn't call that hate either.

And I do not hate anybody because of race or sexual orientation, so I can't say I hate in that way either.

Conversely, I can't say that there are many people that I would use the word "love" for either. But it is a word I use a lot more than hate.

ChibiTaryn: Hate means "to dislike"*. Disliking someone is the exact same thing. When you might say you dislike someone, it's the same thing. It isn't necessarily a stronger word. People just use it in the wrong context. But it still means dislike.

Just because the dictionary (particularly Dictionary.com, whose descriptions are always brief and lacking anyways) describes "hate" as "to dislike" doesn't mean that there isn't a difference between hate and dislike. There is a broad range of feelings of "dislike" and the dictionary does not explain where Hate fits on that scale, nor do I think it could accurately. However, it is a dramatic and extreme word, and in general, the word "hate" is used where the dislike is very strong.

I dislike eating raw carrot. But I wouldn't say I HATE eating raw carrot, I can eat it I just don't like it very much. That said, I HATE eating tomato, it makes me feel very sick and I throw up.

I dislike a girl at the Surf Club, because she is very mean to me, and quite unneccesarily so. But I do not hate her.

From another Dictionary (Merriam-Webster)

The stupid people on this board. If you say something like "ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ME?!?!?!?!11?" Then that probably means i do hate you.

Actually, i hate most stupid, ignorant, or otherwised close-minded people. for example, religious zealots, as in the annoying kind.

I can only say there's two people in my life that I 'hate' but in a way to just cold shoulder them for the rest of my life...no one that I would want to kill...or have reason to warrant for it.

As for people that make annoyed...a large majority of the population that uses stupidity on a daily basis of course...I think common sense and intelligence nowadays is almost beginning to become something that's almost a crutch to some people...especially in say...high school...in or around there...but then there are people that never grow up.
