I played through SMB2(j).fds to world 8-4 without using a warp zone, i finished that level and i went onto world 9. Then after finishing World 9-4, i was brought straight back to World 9-1! Weren't Worlds A to D supposed to be in this game? or did they only appear on the All-Stars version?

YOu have to beat the game 8+ times, I believe. There are stars on the title screen

And since there's no battery save, it has to be done in a row. Grueling, eh?

Anyway, off-topic: You ruined a perfectly good thread by using the glasses smiley, y'know.

Are you guys sure?

Is there a difference between All Stars and All Stars+World?

I don't remember having to beat the game 8+ times. I just remember beating the game, then hey, worlds A-D now are unlocked.

I think you just have to go through each level, without skipping one through a warp or something.

I just honestly don't remember having to do anything special to get A-D.

9-1 to 9-4, however, is a different story.

He's not talking about between All Stars and All Stars+World. He clearly said SMB2(j) which refers to the Japanese SMB2, which is was different in.

Whoops ...

They must be different then.

Funny, you went through world 9 easily, but not A-D. So yeah, must be a difference compared to All-Stars.

in the fds system, you have to beat the game 16 (or 24...i cannot remember which) times to get to worlds A to D.
it is not necessary not to use the warp zones. they just make you whether to get to world 9.
after you beat world 8 once, there will be one more star on the title screen. you need two lines of stars to get the secret worlds.
in SMAS, after beating world 8 you can go to world 9 or A directly

EDIT: Nvm, I just checked out Google, and there are worlds A-D.

Maby you should check out Zophars Domain for a savestate that is at the start of World A. I have found the completed YI game savestate there. Just a thought.

BTW, check out TMK. It says that to get WORLD 9, you have to go thru the game without warping. Then to get WORLD A-D, you need to go down certain pipes in the game.

I think you have to beat the game 8 times to access Worlds A-D on the original SMB2J. On the All-Stars version, you only have to beat it once. I don't know anything about having to take certain pipes...

From studying Super Mario Brothers 2 (Japanese) it seems to me that there are no worlds A - D. World 9 is where the princess is really being held captive? Right? I'm talking about the Japanese version. I remember from All Stars that Koopa fights you outside and the princess is there. Anyways, I suggest you get Super Mario Allstars to play those levels.

Every time you beat 8-4 (warp zones or not, doesn't matter), a star is added to the title screen.

Once you have eight of these stars, hold A and hit start on the title screen (like the old SMB1 continue code)...you'll start on A-1 instead of 1-1.

The game should save the stars to disk, so you shouldn't have to get all eight in one sitting...
