*Raises an eyebrow* You seem to act as if terrorism is a new thing. Unfortunately, it isn't. However, before September the 11th people never expected terrorism can cause such mass destruction and death. Terrorists are blinded, or desperate people. In the case of Palestine, they are driven to desperation. Some kid from Palestine nearly blew himself up because he had severely low self-esteem and was pressurised and persuaded into being a suicide bomber. He didn't do it in the end. He was only a young teen. In the case of Al Qaeda, they are blinded people with the will and the reason (a belief that it will do overall good) to cause such destruction. However, blinded people are not confined to worlds outside the Western one. There are thousands upon thousands of blinded people within the US and England and the whole of the Western community. Every person who fears black people or who believes wielding a gun will protect them from violence or who enjoys getting drunk and beating up random people on a Saturday night... Or even every fundamentalist Christian who believes all should follow their word and that homosexuals are inferior. These are all blinded people. They all exist in virtually every neighbourhood, to varying extremes. Now imagine if these blinded people were not only blinded, but desperate. At the moment they live in the Western world where life is (generally) good. But if they did not, and they felt looked down upon by a powerful society... They could very well be driven to extremely violent acts upon the people of that society that they have come to loath. Quite alot of these arguements can also boil down to the simplistic instinct of territory... And if you find that hard to believe, or a ludicrous prospect that someone would get so worked up over land, just look outside your house. There is likely to be many fences and barriers and locked doors all to stop *you* from getting anywhere near the person who lives nearby. That's territory... (edited by Fyxe on 03-31-04 04:20 PM) |

I knew that terrorism wasn't a new thing. It's been happening in Israel as far as I can remember. Though every since the incidents of Iraq and the national news have been overshadowing it lately... I meant that the terrorism is going to be on a global scale and it's going to be a little more common than before in some countries... Though I agree that September 11th showed that if there were openings, a great loss of lives and destruction could be met... Though from the events I have seen in the world, people should realize that nobody really is immune to terrorist attacks. Even if they're a neutral country... Excellent post, Fyxe. It opens up a lot of doors to this topic... (edited by Waddler-D on 03-31-04 04:38 PM) |
