My dad is going to install some "monitoring software" on my computer to keep me out of evil worldly things or whatever. That sucks in itself, but to add to the initial sucky-ness, he decided not to tell me anything specific about the software. He never told me what it does, whether it logs my chats, or even how often it logs information. This is bullshit. He's always been paranoid of the internet, and the online articles about the dangers of the internet, written for anti-world Christian parents aren't going to help me much. This sucks... Now I can't openly talk to my friends without my fucking dad reading it, violating my privacy as well as all my friends'. FUCK YOU STUPID ONLINE ARTICLES!!

Well... if your desprate... you could download (if the program lets you) a password viewer (if you need to...). Then just find it, write it down, then mess with the log when you dad isn't looking.

You also could try to reason with him, tell him, the articles all relate to people
who share there information on the net, and if your not planning to, then there is nothing to worry about.

other then that... I guess your kinda screwed.

But, yeah... I have to agree with the whole crap aganst dangers over the internet...

well...if the software grabs keystrokes, then you might want to not chat since your dad could get your password that way...

as for the monitoring stuff well...maybe if you use another browser, it will get around it? other than that well...there isn't much you can do until you get more self sufficient...

hm...

1: If it's not a restricted account or some bullshit then just go to RUN -> "msconfig"

Startup... disable anything you don't know what it is. If something fucks up, put it back.

2: If not, just find a disk and boot to DOS. Find some lame program that does nothing [I have a QB program that "SYSTEM"s as first line, EXE format] ...

Then laugh in his face or something =P

[I use a keylogger myself but that's for my grandparents to catch passwords ]

This could be moved to Hardware/Software forum if you want to hack that program...

And there is way to trick thoose programs. One way is using Knoppix. (and CD with Linux that only Runs from the CD. But you need an CD burner for that, and you parents may notice that your using an diffrent OS... )

Or you can start the computer in safe mode, press F8 like mad after the BIOS is finsihed and then choose safe mode with network (otherwise you will be internetless... unless you use dial-up ) in the menu. (then it prompts you to select os if you have XP, but I think you only have one so just press enter when it ask you )

In safe mode there won't be any autostarting software starting (including monitor software), but everything will look ugly. (becuse it's will run it lowest resulotion as possible)

You could see if you can deactivate the monitoring software by MSConfig like XK said. But that's only work if you have admistor status. But then, while being in safe mode there will be an administor account which only appers in safe mode, and it dosen't have any password! That's is an big security flaw, but apparently Microsoft made it like that for preventing users to lock themself out from the system.

Contact me on AIM if you need anymore help, my AIM is gamefreak1337. I gladly help you.

I don't think it has anything to do with what browser I use. For all I know it could be logging all incoming/outgoing data...

Which there will be alot of.

Is he gonna look through big logs or what? If you surf for long time then the log can get very big in size...

Or does it get stuck at certain words?

Maybe it just logs which sites your are surfing to, then you maybe are somewhat safe.

Yea, people get a bit too psycho about internet safety.

If some person is pathetic enough to go out of their way to find out where I live nad hunt me down al the way to my friggin' country town, just to KILL me- then I guess maybe they've earned that right. I mean, honestly, who gives out their full address to people online?

if I want to meet an online friend, I'd arrange a meeting point or something before telling them where my house is...(some of my online friends have actually seen each other, and that's pretty cool.)

Ah, majorly-Christian types, eh? Blech. Sorry, I just hate people who need to dictate other people's lives with their beliefs and call everything they don't like EVIL.

EVERYTHING has an 'evil' side to it. You could find evil anywhere, just depends on how you look at it.

Hey he is a Nazi christian. (No offence to the nazis or christains) That means he basically is like what destiny smasher said.

As for the little program checking everything only go to non porno sites or whatever. Or use back doors and that shit. Use ask jeeves if you have to. Someone tried to use parental contols on me and I broke them. It isn't that bad. If he catches you say that it was your friends or something.

Remember BIG BROTHERS WHATCING YOU.

I always wanted to use that line.
