Nononono, it's nothing about Power. My 486 ran GIF files fine with no problems. It's rather that Firefox have lower delay cap than IE. IE have some odd delay limit when it comes to GIF files. |

Huh. Y'know, I'd like to say I expected a more meaningful thread, but that wouldn't be accurate. People change browser/OS/email service/other crap every day. What's next, someone posting a thread because they changed their underwear? =/ I only use IE because I have no choice in the matter. I'll try other browsers when I get a chance, if only because certain assholes choose to block certain browsers from visiting their site - not mentioning names, of course. I don't care how much a browser doesn't comply with standards, how many pointless features it lacks, or whatever other complaints you have about it; if you don't like it, don't bash it - just don't use it, and save the rest of us the frustration of listening to you/reading your posts. Bah, I'm getting annoyed just thinking about the subject. |

Originally posted by HyperHackerNo, my comment wasn't about your post. Sorry if you interpreted it as such. Jesper, my only complaint was about people that blatantly bash other browsers, often in topics completely unrelated to browsers at all (and yes, this does mean that much of my previous post was off-topic. ), and about people who intentionally block certain browsers (be they IE, Firefox, or whatever else) from visiting their site. However, due to HyperHacker's and Sonicandtails's posts, I realized something. If I don't mention names, someone I'm not talking about is going to think I'm talking about them. And if I do mention names, someone's gonna say I'm flaming. What a situation, huh? |

Your post was well-argued and had a point. Flames are downright insults or lies about people designed to try to make them or something associated with them look dumb or feel dumb. I wouldn't have said you were flaming by a long shot if you had made the post a little more non-ambiguous. | |||

*obligatory post* I don't know... I just don't like firefox. And I don't like people who switch to firefox and boast about it. I don't like people who switch to firefox because they're too stupid to avoid clicking "yes" when a porn sites tries to install shit to their computer. I don't like people who think IE is insecure just because they've never been to windows update. I don't like people who actually think firefox has no vulnerabilities. I don't like people who think using firefox makes them cool. I don't like people who force others to use Firefox to properly view a page because they are too inept to add 2 lines to their HTML. I don't like people who make firefox their religion because they're too lazy to go to church. *Awaits IE7 patiently* |

Originally posted by kiwibongaFYI, a fully-patched, up-to-date, "secure" IE can and will install crap on your computer without so much as a confirmation dialog, as I found out when I visited Home of the Underdogs (a well-known abandonware site). I guess I happened to load their ad banner at just the wrong time or something, as I soon found myself inundated with several popup windows, a couple dozen links to various sites and "spyware removers" on my desktop, and multiple spyware packages attempting to install themselves simultaneously (it's a good thing I had just backed up the Registry). THAT is why I switched to Firefox--not because it's the "cool" thing to do, not because I'm an anti-Microsoft rebel, but because I value my computer too much to see it destroyed by a shoddy lump of obsolete code with more holes than your average sponge. |

And I can understand why people block IE, really. Guess what kind of programs IE would install automatically on "judgy sites"? Programs that turn the computer into a Zombie PC, programs that make the computer a e-mail server and then spam the heck out of people. I wouldn't block IE from my homepage, merely recomend a alternate browser such as Firefox or Opera. |

I tend to switch off. I use Firefox for Acmlm's since many people make their layouts non IE friendly, and Safari (woo Mac) for everything else. It seems like when it comes to flash movies, Firefox just flat out sucks handling them. I don't really hear complaints about this so it's probably just me.. somehow. I don't think this thread needs to be closed unless it gets out of control. Plus we haven't had a "YOU MUST USE THE BROWSER I DO" fit in a while.. have we? |

FreeDOS: I recognize the difference between "commercial" (making money off it) and "proprietary" (keeping things secretive). I believe I used the correct term. Which leads me to... Jesper: I take no issue with the Opera development team making money off it. The trouble is that it's not a browser where someone can get the full version, legitimately, without paying money. Not everyone has the means or desire to pay money. This, coupled with the fact that there are a host of other browsers (very good ones too) one can get for free (many with source code available if desired), would hinder widespread adoption of Opera. It's not a show-stopper, but it would slow it down more than if the same browser were free. (And yes, I do realize that it may well not be the same browser if the development team weren't being paid.) |

What's wrong with FF's flash? It works fine for me. Also BMF pretty much summed up what's wrong with IE. No matter how much you update, patch, and try to avoid these things, they still happen. It's a risk a lot of people would rather not take, and the most logical way to avoid it is to not use IE at all. (And even when it does ask you to install the spyware, still, having to click No every time is way annoying. What genius decided it needed an 'always trust content' option and not a 'never trust content' one? Not to mention they can always just keep popping up over and over again...) BTW, I almost forgot these. They're little chunks of Javascript that you can use by pasting them into the URL of a bookmark. (Just make a new bookmark and copy all the code into the 'URL' field.) Works in Mozilla and Firefox, and probably just about everything else too. -------------Previous Page------------- javascriptfunction(){ var e,s; IB=-1; function isDigit(c) { return (%220%22 <= c && c <= %229%22) } L = location.href; LL = L.length; for (e=LL-1; e>=0; --e) if (isDigit(L.charAt(e))) { for(s=e-1; s>=0; --s) if (!isDigit(L.charAt(s))) break; break; } ++s; if (e<0) return; oldNum = L.substring(s,e+1); newNum = %22%22 + (parseInt(oldNum,10) + IB); while (newNum.length < oldNum.length) newNum = %220%22 + newNum; location.href = L.substring(0,s) + newNum + L.slice(e+1); })(); -------------Next Page------------- javascriptfunction(){ var e,s; IB=1; function isDigit(c) { return (%220%22 <= c && c <= %229%22) } L = location.href; LL = L.length; for (e=LL-1; e>=0; --e) if (isDigit(L.charAt(e))) { for(s=e-1; s>=0; --s) if (!isDigit(L.charAt(s))) break; break; } ++s; if (e<0) return; oldNum = L.substring(s,e+1); newNum = %22%22 + (parseInt(oldNum,10) + IB); while (newNum.length < oldNum.length) newNum = %220%22 + newNum; location.href = L.substring(0,s) + newNum + L.slice(e+1); })(); These cycle through numbered lists of pages by modifying the last number in the URL. Eg: 'images.php?32' -> 'images.php?33'; '29.jpg' -> '30.jpg' and so on. -------------Zoom In------------- javascriptfunction(){ function zoomImage(image, amt) { if(image.initialHeight == null) { /* avoid accumulating integer-rounding error */ image.initialHeight=image.height; image.initialWidth=image.width; image.scalingFactor=1; } image.scalingFactor*=amt; image.width=image.scalingFactor*image.initialWidth; image.height=image.scalingFactor*image.initialHeight; } var i,L=document.images.length; for (i=0;i -------------Zoom Out------------- javascriptfunction(){ function zoomImage(image, amt) { if(image.initialHeight == null) { /* avoid accumulating integer-rounding error */ image.initialHeight=image.height; image.initialWidth=image.width; image.scalingFactor=1; } image.scalingFactor*=amt; image.width=image.scalingFactor*image.initialWidth; image.height=image.scalingFactor*image.initialHeight; } var i,L=document.images.length; for (i=0;i Enlarges or shrinks all images on the page, even if you're viewing an actual image file. Doesn't work with frames though. -------------Go To Referrer------------- javascript:document.location = document.referrer; void 0 Works like a 'back' button, even if you open the page in a new tab/window/chicken dinner. Of course those are probably going to get filled with smilies so you'll probably need to quote the post to see them. [edit] Why does the code tag suck? Just ignore the italics and quote it. Did you get that code from here? It's exactly the same... And also, Flash used to be slow on Firebird for me. But it was fixed on the later Firefox versions. If you have the latest version of Firefox, why not upgrade Flash? (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 04-10-05 07:02 PM) |
