Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I think it would be nice to have. The idea is a check box in newreply.php and newthread.php. It would be somewhere conspicuous and would say "log me in after posting". So you type in your password, and your message, and then check this box (optionally). If you check it, you will be logged in after the message goes through posting. It beats the idea of having an "always log me in after posting" option in personal settings, because you could pick and choose when to do so. Sometimes people want to make one or two posts then leave, but sometimes they realize while typing up a post that they want to log in. *sees tumble weed float by* (edited by MathOnNapkins on 04-06-05 09:19 PM) (edited by MathOnNapkins on 04-08-05 06:34 AM) |

Agreed. I hate how posting doesn't log you in (which can be very confusing as well), and making it optional ensures that you don't forget to log out before you leave.

What is the point clicking the small "Login" button then ? This actually bites with the thread of me, posted here too (ghost/invinsibile option) I'm satisfied with the current way. Sometimes I may not be on my own computer, but another one. I won't need an extra logout command and can post with my password, without the fear I could forget to log out and someone else could misuse that. Sometimes my name is shown in brackets by purpose in the user list (edited by Surlent on 04-10-05 05:51 AM) |

Which is exactly why it would be optional to log in when posting

Kind of useless... if you want to log in, then do it the normal way. Posting threads/posts without logging in (or cookies) is nice for public computers.

You're missing the point that this would allow you to make a post without having to go to the the login page, which is separate. Furthermore, if you're typing out your post, you may lose your train of thought if you decide to go login during the composition, or you may forget to log in after you post. This is all about facilitating loggin in for people who WANT to log in.

Another idea might be to put a small checkbox into the login page/JavaScript code, which would be named "Log me in permanently on this computer" So if you did not check that box, it might log you out after fifteen minutes of inactivity then automatically. Not exactely what proposed, but maybe a solution some other users might want to share too (edited by Surlent on 04-11-05 12:57 AM) |
