Not sure if these can help, but while surfing the net, I stumbled across BMF54123's forum and here's what it had held there:

http://rustedmagick.com/mb/thread.php?id=176

There's a bunch of stuff written there and more data documents below that same page. Hope that'll come in handy.

You know, looking at those RAM address, to me they looked just like PAR codes. Well comparing them, they are the same as PAR codes. Not sure if this helps, doubt it, but I did make a "fight any enemy" code that lets you fight any enemy you input into the PAR code.

Well, this probably should be posted elsewhere but, I did some background hacking and found this unusal background for an underwater battle:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
has that ever been used in a game or did I just perhaps miss it somewhere?

Dunno what's with the big blue spot (you turn off a layer?) but that's from the cave just before the sunken ship.

That other post of mine was a joke BTW. Note the ROM address.

Uh, not it's not. Maybe you should go look at the stage the monsters fight in. I'm sure because I just doubled checked it just to be sure. The stage for the enemies in the Sea level is just a plain underwater arena.

I remember fighting in that stage sometime in the game, so i know that it is used. I think its right before you go into the sunken ship to fight that shark dude.

It might begin/end earlier/later than that, but it's around there.

I was playing with RAM around there a bit and didn't see anything. Which level of the game were you using this in?

Or was that an April fool's joke too?

I do believe the BG ShadowSonic found is unused. 7E004B is the RAM address for the current battle BG(I don't take credit for finding this). Here are the values:

00- Forest Land
01- Forest Stump
02- Vine
03- Ship Treasure Chamber
04- Ship
05- Mines
06- Mines(Messed GFX)
07- Bowser's Keep
08- Volcano Czar Dragon
09- Plains
0A- Mountains
0B- House
0C- Booster Tower Interior
0D- Mushroom Castle
0E- Underwater Sewers
0F- Mushroom Castle(Same as 0D)
10- Exor
11- Booster Tower Balcony
12- Count Down
13- Factory Exterior
14- Volcano
15- Sewers
16- Nimbus Castle
17- Birdo's Nest
18- Nimbus Land
19- Cave
1A- Messed BG
1B- Forest Land(Messed GFX)
1C- Mushroom Kingdom
1D- Chandeliers
1E- Forest Path
1F- Level Up FG
20- Level Up BG
21- Plateau
22- Undersea(Unused!)
23- Marrymore Chapel
24- Star Hill
25- Shoreline(Yaridovich)
26- Undersea Cave(used in every area under the ocean.)
27- Blade
28- Cloaker & Domino
29- Red Plains(Bean Valley)
2A- Belome's Temple
2B- Desert
2C- Smithy(Form 1)
2D- Smithy(Other Forms)
2E- Fighting Dojo
2F- Culex
30- Factory Interior
31- Bean Valley Underground

22 is the unused digit. 26 is used instead. It has no blue spot or seaweed.

Edit: Speaking of unused stuff, there are also enemy palettes in the rom
that aren't even used on unused enemies. For instance, there are palettes
for yellow, pink, and grey Shamen following the normal Shaman palette.
The palettes for most of the sprites start at 253000 in the rom.

can those BG's be changed real time by editing ram? or does that just determine what is loaded?

Nice find btw.

Its def doable (making an editor) for mario RPG, since its a popular game all you really need is someone to start it cause thats almost always the hardest part. It musthave been H3LL for SePH when he started hyrule magic

Yah, getting it started is usually the hard part. I am going to invest a lot of time in finding data as soon as my exams are over.

And, WTH??? SePH didnt make Hyrule Magic. He just uses it alot. Sephiroth3 made it. I guess i can see how the 2 could get confused.

Im gonna write an editor for it once i have enough data. I just need to find enough data. I think i am going to need someone to break the compression on it. I dont really know much about that. Any volunteers?

I posted some data over at the rustedmagick.com message board last year, but I've since cleaned things up a bit and have found out roughly where the sprite mapping data is located (what sprites are assigned to whatever area) and have a better grasp of the battle script system.
The sprites are mapped by the SA-1 chip and I'm going to be honest and say that I don't have the slightest notion how it (the chip) works, but I have found the data so I've got something to work off of.
I don't know if there's been any talk of an editor being made for this game but I think with what I have here someone with good enough programming skills could put together a pretty decent one. Since this is the most active romhacking board I could find I figured it would get more attention and hopefully inspire a hack.

Here's what I've gathered over the months of off and on hacking:
rom data

I have several other documents explaining some things there in detail (battle scripts, spell animations, enemy/spell/item stats) but I'll see if anyone is even interested yet before putting it here.

OK, did a little search, and the SA-1 is simply a 65c816 proc running at a higher speed with a new name. To quote: "The SA-1 is a 65816 chip, although at a higher clock then the SNES's internal one".

The site I got the data from.

I'll also look for other data, too.
EDIT: Some more, too!

"SA-1 65c816 8/16-bit processor, clocked at 10MHz. It contains some extra circuits developed by Nintendo, which includes some fast RAM, a memory mapper, DMA, several real-time timers, and the region lockout chip. The SA-1 was a multipurpose chip that could be found in games such as Kirby Superstars, Kirby Dreamland 3, and Super Mario RPG."

The site, as always.
