He meant that Sonic Crackers was likely converted into Chaotix; Mighty bears more than a slight resemblance to Sonic, is the first character in the game (character slot 0 or 1, depending how you want to number it), and is followed by a deleted character.

Sonic X-treme was canceled and they instead released a Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast... Both occurring a year after Chaotix was released.

Main beta I know of floating around... Sonic 2 beta. Rather cool, even if only 4 levels can be completed.

Whether true or not, it makes some sense, as they were always going to allow you to reach the 'island' across the water for an objective. However, I heard from a Rare-based source they were going to use a boat, which surely would of been easier technically than having a whole scuba-based section (which would of clearly meant travelling underwater). It seems slightly far-fetched that they would want a whole scuba thing going on. That's a hell of alot of water, too. Then again, that might be why they never bothered. Seems bizarre, though.

Some things were left in though, like the mysterious Key in Silo that you can utilise to open one of the silos temporarily for some odd reason.

I have a few prototype screenshots of Link's Awakening in a magazine, they're interesting. And thousands of early OoT shots, and some early Majora's Mask shots too (or Zelda Gaiden, as it was known). Interestingly, turning into a Goron appears to allow use of the Megaton Hammer, an item which never appeared in the final game anyway. There was also an Adult Link Mask, which almost certainly became the Fierce Deity Mask. Oh, and I've got some StarFox 2 shots for that matter, but we can play that anyway. And I've seen prototype screenies of Super Mario World on this board.

Well, there is a model of a boat after all in the game they could have used. And there is quite a few unused vehicles in Goldeneye.

The funny thing about that island is that it actually have a guard, and that's something is destroyable on that island. I yet have to take a close look on Project64 as the no clipping code didn't work correctly for some reason. -.-;

Opening that silo was kinda intresting, it may have been something related to the beta. And it might as well be have been left in on purpose. As a easter egg... or it was just a plain leftover. After all, that key is named "." which is a strange name for a key...

The Goldeneye game have alot of strange things that can only be explained as a beta leftover or as a strange easter egg...

The island doesn't have a guard. O.o'' I remember checking with my cousin's game and his Action Replay. Did this trick to walk across water. There were some oddities about the island, the tower wasn't like all the other towers, the gun wasn't active and couldn't be shot or something like that, I forget the details, but I remember no guards or anything.

Heck, if there was a guard you could see him with the Sniper Rifle, surely, but you can't.

Anyway, I might scan those Link's Awakening beta shots for prosperity.

EDIT: Oh, and you can only get the Key by killing him (which is only possible with the Golden Gun/Gold PP7 anyway), but if you shoot him enough he drops his Briefcase, and getting that was originally an objective, I know that much. Probably on 00 Agent.

I checked the island, and there is no guards. I just remember wrong. -.-;

And yeah, that key is apparently a "master key". It maybe wasn't made for opening the silo doors after all, maybe the silo doors had a seperate key at one time of the devolopment, and the "." key was just accidental or just used for beta testing.

And apparently you started in the ventilation ducts in the Silo level. Which still exist in the final game and can be found on the bottom of the silo you start in. A old gameplay video even show bond using a elevator in that level. There is no elevators in the final game...

SMB3, back of the box, Para-Beetles. That's one of the most glaring beta examples I can think of, I remember looking through the game for that level.

There are some beta levels left in the game, I believe, one involving Para-Beetles, but I'm not sure if it was that level. It had *green* Para-Beetles though.

That level on the back of the box dosen't exist in the game, it's confirmed. And yes, that picture is on the European SMB3 box, which is probably the same as the USA one expect for "EUROPEAN VERSION ONLY".

But it dosen't exist, not at all.

Besides the back of the box have a beta screen of the first world. Which just looks little diffrent, as kid I was searching for that secret overworld and level... *rolleyes* XD

Did you know Superstar Saga originally had cameos from Fox McCloud, Samus, and more?

http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk/lostbytes.shtml

There's also a very detailed look into the SMB3 beta levels there too. Yellow Cheep Cheeps, almost forgot about them.

Mmm, that page covers the unused Yoshi transformations. That we talked about on the board for a year ago I recall.

...heh, I saw thoose before on TMK. I would love thoose cameos. I like the Olimar one as Olimar is based off Mario, I wonder if there is unused graphics too... or maybe they didn't include the sprites if they ever made a few.

It seems odd that they translated the text yet nobody can find the sprites. Although sometimes they just translate every bit of text in the game, even the leftover stuff, so it's probably not that weird.

The cameos would of been cooler than the E. Gadd stuff, even though that was still neat in itself.

Olimar is the funniest, although Wario gets an amusing cameo as well.

I guess it did stay away too much from the Mario theme. Then... Wario would still have fitted.

Sure they had camoes before, but not charachter blatantly popping up and saying hi.

There is this wierd unused wheel animation in SMB3, let me find it.

And here are some beta shots from Pokemon Gold

Yeah. That site has some little blurbs about how it could be fake, but these are easily disputable. Thier prime example--it's "black and white" Actualy, its Super Gameboy, the only color mode supported on the original Pokemon games. Gold and silver may have very well been in the works before GBC's time, or before GBC games were mainstream. Also to note Yellow on GBC looked the same way.

They also said the buildings were poorly done. Have they SEEN the graphics in the first game? Just by the Pokemon and trainers alone, one could say that the whole first slew of Pokemon games had a bit of an artistic brain fart. Also, the guy thinks the building that reads GATE says CAFE. The shots are poor quality, but it CLEARLY says GATE. Which is why I've taken everything he says with a grain of salt.

The final thing of theirs was spekaing of how tress don't go behind buildings due to the tile based nature of the game. I'm betting anything in the world, since its on SGB and everything, that it was used on a highly modified RBY engine. Meaning the "tile based nature" of the game applies, HOWEVER, each "tile" is made up of little 8x8 squares. Thats right. The tops of tress can easily be placed behind houses via these means, and by the magic of ROM hacking, I can even prove this (though hopefully that won't be necessary). Anyways, enjoy the pictures for what they are--beta shots. Those ARE real, that particular site just happens to be hypercritical on it.

Nice edits, Fyxe. I *think* that the data was taken out but I'm not a hundred percent sure. It's not like I've seen any Lost Levels hacks for the SNES version compared to the one out there for the NES.
