It will be released on April 5th. I know I promised it before the end of March, but I've been occupied with a lot of personal things and haven't been able to work on it as much as I could, and I really want to get a lot of things right here as this is one version that people will actually upgrade to.

I was looking at online.php, then I noticed you were making a thread here.

I was like "Jesper will finally release that 'new' Acmlmboard version with increased security".

I got my hopes up

But good thing you still remember.

Nice, but I thought it will be 2.0 like you mentioned the last time.
One question though, will editpoll.php and editlayout.php be in it?

2020.

So you're basicly releashing it when you're finished making 1.A2. That means everyone will finally have an version up-to-date with this board?

I'd just like to know, how "big" of an update / upgrade would this be?

Security is my main concern here. I mean, have you talked with Dekker about things earlier here? He applied some fixing to my board, that maybe this version (the board here) would not have, while as I'm sure the official Acmlmboard system has slew of patches and fixes my board doesn't.

So, for me ... it's debating, then again I am using Acmlm+Erk, and I know for a fact there's still a lot of similarities in it compared to the very old 1.8a Acmlmboard ...

All I'm really hoping is that my board may be somewhat "compatible" with this new version, that way updating wouldn't be so hard ...

But after thinking about it, I think I'd much rather get back on track with the real system here, then updating wouldn't be so stressful. Plus, judging from the 1.92 package, the "real" packages are much more cleaner than what I have. And the only things I really like out of Erk's package these days is the admin quick links, ipsearch, and things like that which I'm sure I could apply to the newer versio n here with ease.

No, I *didn't* mention it last time. 2.0 will be working off of a whole new codebase - not a rewrite, just the result of gradually changing the current codebase into a new one.

1.A2 is the direct follow-up to 1.A1 - all features available here will be available in the distribution. This is all known, but there seems to be some confusion about it, so I just wanted to clarify it.

Shortly following 1.A2, I will start integrating some features into the development codebase that will kick off the road to 2.0.

I will start by implementing a small extension infrastructure which will be a much cleaner way to add 'hacks' (as it were). Current hacks rely on modifying every file needed and require countless effort when upgrading the core board. This extension infrastructure will allow certain specific places where extensions can hook in and do their stuff. It's hacks done right - *you won't need to edit the page, just make sure to call the right hooks and provide all code from a secondary file*.

But for now, however, I will merge all the fixes done on the development version and those done directly on the board - I sometimes do that - and walk through each file tightening screws as I go.

Question: For those of us with v1.92, will we have to delete everything and do a fresh install, or just delete the files, leaving the MySQL DB as it is?

Yeah, my question basically too, but it could be different on my part ...

I'm just hoping users, posts / threads, etc, are all compatible, and I'm easily switching back over to the official stuff here.

Word to the wise, don't use unofficial distributions; wait.

2020.
But it is going to be a summer release!

I think that another release is a good thing, if any bugs are found out they should get ironed out rather quickly.

Let's get this straight:

No scripts will be shipped to allow migration from any prior AcmlmBoard version. The thing is that I don't know the exact database changes between each 'vanilla' AcmlmBoard version, and even if I did, and I crafted scripts to make migration possible - which would delay the release by at least a week - there'd still be lots of people that have hacked their setup to bits, or that use Acmlm+Erk, or both, which won't benefit from this anyway.

So basically, I implore you to look into the db structures yourselves and see if you can find out ways to salvage what you already have, if you think you're up to it. But I won't be helping *anyone* with migration, and this is purely pragmatic. It's not hard for me to imagine helping two or three people, but that would be unfair towards the rest of you, so I'm making it a rule of principle to not help *anyone at all*. If you don't think you can deal with doing it yourself, too bad, and start from scratch.

I don't feel good about having to do that, but like I said, the effort needed would be huge even to craft migration scripts for the existing versions, and it still won't help out those who has hacked it to bits.

The great news is that as far as 1.92 to 1.A2 goes, I don't think a lot of stuff has changed regarding posts, threads, forums, private messages and users (some minor stuff to allow folders in PMs and new profile fields, primarily) and so you'll at least be able to salvage your most important data.

Well I never specifically asked for help, did I? Just to clerify.

Good news for me. Database wise, my board and 1.92 aren't -too- different, I'm sure it'll require a little more work on my side, but I'm sure it's nothing impossible.

I'm assuming that's good news, though I'm not entirely sure Jesper understood my question...

Basically, it's like this: I deleted everything, and did a fresh install when I got AcmlmBoard v1.92. Since then, I've made a few minor modifications to the DB, by adding a few fields to the users table. If v1.A2 uses the exact same DB that v1.92 uses, then I'm fine. If it uses a totally different one, then I have work to do.

NOT a totally different one. The differences are pretty minor between 1.A2 and 1.92 - I don't believe we've removed or renamed a single field so it's just a question of adding what's appropriate.

I have to question your choice of release date. Oh well, it just means that timer in my header can be used for something else also.

But, anyway, about time, really
