About three days ago my dad's computer was on and then when he was working it shut down and restart the computer then my dad said it was the cpu but it was actually the motherboard that is when my dads friend said it was the motherboard. So my dad is going to get a new computer I think or a new motherboard today.

I hae no idea what you said... Let me try to analyze.

"Three days ago my dad's computer restarted for no reason (period, most important part of preventing a run-on sentence). My dad thought it was the computer, but it was really the motherboard. So my dad is either getting a new motherboard or a new computer"

Fixed up. So, has this happened more than once, or was it just a freak accident?

The most common reason for a computer to shut down or restart itself is overheating. Also if you're using XP, BSODs are skipped by default (it automatically restarts). You can disable that in Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery settings (unchecked 'Automatically restart' under System FKitten Yiffer), so if it happens again, you should get an error code you can look up on microsoft.com.
This could also be caused by a power supply fKitten Yiffer, whether it be the PSU itself or a brownout. Computers really don't like having insufficient power.

Hey Mageous, I know what I am talking about why don't you, because I did not do punctuation that well. Just because my typing is not that good does not mean that you can read it.

That itself didn't make sense... for someone who hates Bush, you sure are dumber (well, maybe not).

Anyway, do what Hyper said.
