This is in Fedora Core 3 (zomg linux!111) and for some reason,

It happened in Windows 98 also, but not quite as bad... This almost makes it unusable, since nothing will show up.

I just hope this can be fixed, it's a really bad problem =/

It's not too hot, since it did this while installing on a cold boot (literally cold -- 63 F in my room) and had a much smaller problem like this in Win 98 (scrolling would sometimes leave 'trails') but this is an extreme...

It worked fine when starting up then stopped again, so I'm going to have to try playing with the insides again (moving around wires to try and keep them from getting uber-tangeld) and remove the extra drives, if possible...

... but yes, this sucks.

What video card are you exactly using?

I'm going to install Fedora core 4 test 1 later today probably... so yeah.

I have no clue what card this is.

Oh well... I guess installing this was a waste (no point in having it if it's unusable)

What does windows report the card as thought? And what drivers are you using for it currently?

That means it probably is temperature-related. It can be much hotter in a computer than outside it. If not that, the card might be defective or not getting enough power.

After another restart and roughly an hour of sitting at the login screen it's working again, with no problems.

... oh well, now that I can actually do shit it's a lot easier to use.

I've seen the same problems with Up2Date... it just freezes and doesn't work. It seems to happen to everybody, so get a better distro like Debian, Slackware, Gentoo.

That wasn't the problem with just that particular program. It was the entire OS doing that.

Desktop boxes wouldn't draw far enough and wouldn't update, text wouldn't scroll properly (only the bottom line/pixel would), almost nothing worked right.

Oh man that sucks. I only had problems with Up2date with Fedora.

It's bad enough when you can't update your OS.

Well, thanks to Kitten Yiffer I just used the "yum" program ala Terminal and it did what Up2Date did, but better... or something.

It installed all the updates for me, and I just used it to download a MP3 plugin for XMMS
