The hack is coming along very nicely. Worlds 1, 2, and 3 as a whole, are almost done. I'm going to have the hack beta tested soon. Any updates to this hack will be posted here. I have some new stuff I want to show:


At a certain point in the game, Toad will be a playable character. Keep in mind, he is not Player 2. The hack is driven by a story. I don't want to spoil it for you, but somewhere down the road something bad will happen to Mario, and Toad will have no choice but to continue the adventure for him.


One of Toad's abilities is that he will be able to throw hammers. He will also be able to get small like Mario, and get other powerups of his own.


I still have to put the rest of his sprites in, but I do have a few of them. Toad WILL NOT be playable in the public demo. He will be in the final release. He doesn't appear until much later in the game.


I know I said I was going to leave the rest of World 1 to the player, but in Level 5, which is brand new by the way, here is another area that resembles Super Mario Bros. 2. Remember the tall platforms with the waterfall and bridge in Level 1 of SMB2? Well, I incorporated that area into this level.

Right now, I'm planning more ASM hacks, and new graphics. I might still use the Goal Cards for a different purpose.

That's pretty awesome, I'm really excited to find out what Toad's special powerups will be, and how you are going to show what happens to Mario. If you can pull off some sort of story screen or something, that will be amazing!

Oh man! This is looking better all the time. Toad? I'm really wondering what's going to happen to Mario and if he becomes recoverable.

So... when's the demo coming out, or will the finished product be out soon enough to not even bother with the demo ? Heh, I'll try it out either way .

Stuff from Mario Apocalypse has made its way into Race Against Time also. Like, the palette you see in the new World 1-6. Also, as I have posted a screenshot of it before, Level 1 of Mario Apocalypse is now in World 3.


A Giant Bullet comes out of that pipe, which resembles an area of World 1-2 in one of my previous hack versions.


Hmmm, I wonder how Mario is going to get over there?


Not only does the dark background take an aspect of Dark Mario, but the Boom-Boom shows up a lot better too!

I'm loving those screens. So, I'm taking it that this is going to be a more serious Mario game. Like some darker looking areas and a more serious storyline, am I right? Because if so, you're doing a great job.

There is one thing that is now changing with the hack: All levels will be brand new.

I just got done completely remaking Level 1 from scratch! It took me over an hour to make. There is a lot more to Level 1 than what is shown in the pics.

This is pretty good progress Rockman. I have a suggestion with this pic...



I like how it's really dark. But try this...

When your getting near a Boom Boom for battle, do an ASM hack that'll have the level fade to black like in the picture & when Boom Boom is defeated, the darkness fades away & the level comes back. If it's possible...

The screenshots look sweet.

And yes, I hope the timer freezes or at least you'd get like 2 to 3 T switches before the Boom-boom fight to give you more time to defeat him.
