But, in other news, those similar hex characters may (or may not) just be similar layouts or palettes or something that may not be an error. Try checking the original Zelda 3 and see if anything like that appears. |

Originally posted by XkeeperI certainly hope that's the case, Xkeeper.Originally posted by blackhole89"It's also possible that the dump we have is damaged, in which case, it's probably a lost cause." But I really wouldn't be surprised if it's broken\damaged heavily. The BS games weren't out for long, and anyone not very experienced in the art of dumping could have just been sloppy trying to get them dumped before time was up. Well that would certainly suck. I'm optimistic that it's an emulation problem of some sort though (whether that be the ROM expecting to be run on a BSX or just some poorly-emulated function - undocumented BSX stuff?), although I've never actually seen the game running. Nintendo really should re-release them somehow. Come to think of it, the DS is capable of wifi support (it's up to the game)... |

An emulation error is also very likely, the BS-X is not emulated properly in current emulators, not by a long shot. But from talking with the developers of ZSNES and the like, it doesn't sound like they have much to work with, no BS-X hardware, not a whole lot of information on it's technical aspects, etc.. I don't know, there are so many possible things wrong with this game, someone clever just needs to narrow down which one it is and determine whether or not this can be fixed. |

Its actually fun. I put the little kid in Z3 for fun. Too bad this whole thing wasnt in America. I think the easiest part would be translating, why isnt that done yet? |

This was posted by malcster (01-07-03 ) "The problem is, many of the BS games available right now are bad dumps. But because of the rarity of the original games, it's hard to verify what's good and what isn't. Apparently, Cowering (who makes the GoodSNES sets that many sites, including this one, serve) has got redumps of all of them, which are actually good + playable, so we just have to wait until the next GoodSNES for them to be included. In the meantime though, try Snes9x, (which is often compatible with slightly more ROMs, even if it is a little slower) if you have a specific BS game you'd like to play. Some, however, (such as the Zelda Kodai no Sekiban games) appear to be simply bad dumps." ------------------------------------------------ You guys could try to find it on Yahoo! JAPAN, it has to show up someday. Howerer the price might get an issue. Additionally the guys on the Cherryroms board may know what can be done to get a new dump. |

How can they get redumps if the games only showed up for a certain time back in the past? Are copies of the GB type save card things still rare but available? Will people attempt to find out info on what isn't badly dumped in the existing dump, or will they wait? And lastly did they dump the other Kirby sports game that was never dumped? Okay, not related, sorry.

Also, I looked on the site and saw a patch that is supposed to make floors visible. Doesn't this prove that all the data is present?

Perhaps I should have earlier stated this.. VEL actually completed (I still don't know how he managed to do it) this game before, enemies, doors, stairs, items.. all of that is present in Dungeons. None of it is visibile though, and the collision is completely missing. I don't think it's so much a question of the dungeon data being missing as it is something is screwing it up.. Be it something simple, an emulation error, or something important corrupted, I just don't know. And I've never heard tell of a patch to make the floor visible. If you saw something like that you should really confirm it for us, and provide the source here. It's not entirely possible someone looked into this, and it went un-noticed. Though if that would be the case, I'd be kinda surprised considering the fanbase the series has.. (edited by The Sage Of Time on 03-28-05 08:12 PM) |

Originally posted by XkeeperOriginally posted by blackhole89"It's also possible that the dump we have is damaged, in which case, it's probably a lost cause." I saw that. But it's likey just at spots which are just blank or filliers. The same thing often happens when you dump a GBA ROM. |

The floors patch found the on the BS Zelda Homepage is not recommended b/c your character can get "lost" underneath the tiles. I'm assuming that since this patch makes them appear it would indicate it is probably an emulation problem and not a incomplete dump of the rom. As for why a translation patch has not been released yet, the translation was just completed probably around december and we only just very recently found someone who is willing to insert the english text. It is presently being worked on. As for completing the game, luckily b/c of dreamer nom's recent "ancient stone tablets restore patch" it is no longer necessary to walk around blindly or use your boomerang to find objects since objects such as treasure chest and blocks are now visible. I recently completed the game and navigating the dungeons is much easier now b/c of the patch. One more thing that might be useful for anyone who might be "toying" with the rom. If you go to the BS Zelda Homepage (I guess I won't provide the link either but just do a search on yahoo) and click on files under BS Zelda Ancient Stone Tablets and scroll all the way down to the bottom under Misc you will find some resources that might be helpful such as a graphics decoder and some technical information provided by Dream Nomer and Obiki (another rom hacker). I probably should have pointed this out earlier, sorry.

Originally posted by cent208 Heh, I'd do it but I don't speak enough Japanese. But it might be better to wait until you can get the ROM working fully. The patch (if it needs one) might take up some of the free space that the text was inserted into and muck it up. Also large sections of repeated bytes (especially 00 and FF) are probably nothing to worry about, especially if they end at the end of a ROM bank. It's just padding to fill the bank; I see it all the time in other ROMs. |

The person that is presently inserting the text was apparently doing well with it. So we probably won't need any help with this unless he runs into any problems. As for the space problem, the patch will be listed seperately on the website so you do not have to combine it on the original rom if you dion't want to (its optional). Also the person inserting the text said he was going to replace the Japanese text with the American text so I guess that would save space.

http://d.the2d.com/archives/65 Check that out. If anyone can modify a SNES emu to work those little problems, we might not have to go through the game and fix everything, it may already be there. |

Originally posted by cent208 This is probably incorrect. It has been my experience, by and large, that reinserted English scripts tend to be _larger_ than Japanese scripts by at least a factor of two. I'll certainly take a look at the game and see if I can get things running, as well, though. |
