I didn't see any topics about this yet, and dont' think it's been mentioned yet (I would have searched for it, but...you know...) Could a search page be added? I know the old board needed one badly, as there were so many posts. Eventually it would be a great addition, there's not much now, but there soon will be, and it might cut down on redundant posts. If this has been done to death (I honestly didn't see a post asking this yet) or if there is a search function, close this, or point me in the right direction please. |

There used to be a search function on the old board. However, it used a lot of bandwidth, and the ZTnet admins made Acmlm remove it. However, since we have a new host, we could possibly add it back. |

The search form was never removed. The link was removed, and it is still possible to get to the search form by typing in the address. Also, the search function is handled by thread.php, not the script that generates the search form. If you find the search form, avoid using it unless an admin tells you that using it is permitted. I was not around here then, but I think that the problem was not bandwidth but CPU and RAM usage. I know of at least one other site that started to have trouble with database performance when it got busy. The search function was disabled there because it slowed down the site and was crashing the database server. |

That search thing is pretty much destroyed. Searching with it won't work. The database was over 600-700 MB before, but Acmlm maybe should readd it (at least something that can search for just thread titles). I wouldn't be surprised if it was around 10-50 MB now. 11 actually. (stats.php + calculator, hehe.) Interestingly the Poll_Votes table has 1024 bytes of index... and nothing else. | |||

Control and F works fine for what's on a single page. I took this picture awhile back (before the board went squish) As you can see, at that time, there were 56 pages, with about 50 threads on each page. JUST in the Super Mario World Hacking Forum. Not counting the multiple pages that some of those threads spanned. (edited by Chickenlump on 03-29-04 07:40 PM) |
