Yeah, the secret exit from w1-3 will lead to that island place with all the pipes you can go to worlds 2 to 4. I'm not sure how i'm going to handle the world 5 to 8 warps yet.

Here are some new shots:

(moved down)

Yes you've seen it, 2 Overworlds! 2 because I'm releasing the game in 2 ROMs. Before you ask, no, there is no way I could have fit the whole SMB3 Overworld into one ROM. Or even if I could, i wouldn't be able to have different music for each map. And I realise there's a part missing from the Ice World.

Please post your comments.

This is so far the best SMB3 OW ported to SMW, keep up the good work.

Seeing as I love commenting on OW's and Peter, yours is just way to cool, I can't pass this up:

World 1:

AMAZING!. The palettes are so vibrant, adding some real life to the map instead of the standard green, blue and brown. Only 3 things I see that are sort of off: 1. The hills (green guys) dont seem to have the sand ground behind them. Probably not enough palette room, but try making them use layer 2 (levels layer) so you can paste them over without having a background, just a thought.
2. Change the bridge "shadow" color from brown to a dark blue indicating water.
3. The start tile's palette is off

World 2:

Start color and palm tree BG. Other than that this looks awesome!! But why do you have 2 sand pits? Didn't the original only have 1?

Water Land:

Everything looks good except the bridge shadow again And how exactly will the breakable stones work? And for that matter, the spade cards?

Warp Zone:

Perfect

Giant Land:

Bridge shadow. See what you did with the flowers? Do that with the palm trees and green hills. The flowers have the ground behind them And what happend to the land beside the castle??

Pipe Land:

The pipe near the pirana plant level is half in the water. The pirana plant itself has a weird blackness on the right side (are the plants animated?) And bridge shadow needs recoloring.

World 8:

OMG awesome!!!....

World 5 and Sky Land:

Everything looks good except the island in the sky section. It looks NES like

Ice Land:

Did the original have a green outline around the land?? And this is my favourite world from SMB3....amesome!!! Looking forward to this!

Keep it up...I want to see you pull off world 8 considering it has what 4 maps??

(Moved down to here)

World 1:
okay, i'll look into everything you said.
The start tile is exactly the same as the original, really.

Worlds 2 and 4:
they're split between 2 submaps. You only see everything one when playing.

The Warp Zone:
it has very annoying lightning SFX because it replaces Bowser's Valley. I don't know how to stop this.

World3:
I've already commented on the stones, card games, mushroom huts, gates etc. (above)

World 5:
I took this screenshot before i fixed that.

World 6:
no, the river bank will be changed. I'll have to slightly shorten it to fit the rest of the map in.

World 7:
That pipe is supposed to be on the edge, look it up in a SMB3 editor.

World 8:
palettes are the only problem here. I have loads of space.

What does everyone think about the 2 ROM idea?

If you cant fit it all in one rom because of the overworld the 2 rom idea is probably the way to go...otherwise you'd have to somehow add in new overworlds which would require a lot of asm work...

Sounds like a plan. How are you gonna make various things like the bridges and boat in world 3 work though?

The boat: i think i'm going to change Mario's swimming GFX to make it look like he's in a boat. And the bridges: they'll open and close, reacting to events which are triggered by passing a level.

You could, perhaps, move World 7 onto the bottom part of the main world map, and free up a couple submaps.

That was just an example. You could move World 1 onto the main map and give it a new border. You don't have to follow the original maps exactly, creative combinations of old maps would give your port a refreshing angle.

It would be interesting to see the old GFX with a new flare. Just try some stuff out, see if you like it.
