Minesweeper r0x0rz. I'm not quite as good as you are (though I can beat expert mode)...but... I have a B.S. in computer science from Penn State (main campus). During my schooling, I took differential equations for fun. I got A's in all of my calculus courses, multivariate calculus included. I've been cosplaying (dressing up as anime and video game characters) since 2002. The workmanship on my first costume wasn't great, but I have been improving my skills and getting insanely anal about my craftsmanship and material choices. My current projects are costumes from Dynasty Warriors 4 for myself and my husband (Zhang He for me, Xiahou Dun for him), and I'm making fiberglass weapons and real riveted metal armor. It may seem insane to spend all this time and money for costumes that are only worn to conventions that take place once a year, but it is important to me. Once upon a time when I was between jobs, I worked on an editor for Milon's Secret Castle, written in C++ with a GTK GUI. Too bad I became employed again before it could actually save anything...but i was proud of what I accomplished. I've seen the first Addams Family movie about 50 times, probably still know the entire script, and have a very long list of merchandise and collectibles from it...including autographed pictures of Christina Ricci (Wednesday) and Jimmy Workman (Pugsley). Hooray for random fandom. I run Linux (Debian unstable) on my home computer...and I like it kthx. |

You dress up as Zhang He? That's hilarious. I figured you'd pick one of the female characters, but he is pretty feminine. I love his musou battle cry: "Beauty, come to me!" Anyways, I'm just a video game nerd. As distinguished from role player nerds, and computer nerds. I own at least four pieces of clothing marketed for nintendo. |

Beating minesweeper on expert is nothing, beating it on a mobile phone is leet. (yes my mobile phone have that game, I love it...) I have a B.S. in computer science from Penn State (main campus). Better tell me what B.S. stands for before I joke about it. And yeah, my education path is pretty much computer directioned. If I can take a programming class, I take it... thought I think I restart with the programming in university or collage. Since I really want to learn a thrid language. (Delphi is so windows only and basic, and Java is well... too slow sometimes. ) Linux... well, I yet have to find a distro I like. The only really large distro I have tried is Fedora core 2, and it's slow... then I tried small ones such as "Damnsmalllinux" which boots damn fast in VMWare, but I hadn't dared to test it "raw" on my own computer. I heard it can even be run on a 486. Althought I wouldn't throw out Win XP, since unlike what many Linux fans say... it's acutally quite good. Thought Mac OS X impreses me more nowdays and Longhorn seems to have some serious problems currently... I am a geek, otherwise I wouldn't write a such long post in a such pointless thread. |

Originally posted by Kitten Yiffer Learn C. Arguably the most useful and portable language you'll ever encounter Originally posted by Kitten Yiffer Use Slackware... my favourite distro of GNU/Linux. And DSL is perfectly safe. It's a Live CD... and yes, it's compiled for and successfully runs on a 80486. Your "Linux fans" that bash WinXP are probably the ones that wouldn't even know how to use a computer anyway. They do it to make themselves look cool. I don't care for WinXP... or Windows in general, but I have Win2k installed just because (it is WinXP without the teletubbies). Longhorn is meh... I don't care for it. Doesn't seem to be as good as some make it out to be. Originally posted by Kitten Yiffer And I'm responding to your geekiness. So I'm one too! (See above post) Funny how a deogratory term is adopted by us "geeks" as a compliment, eh? (Nerds too, but I've never heard someone being proud od being a dork ) |

Reasons why I am a geek: - My only social life outside the Internet is in my advanced computer class. - I post at Acmlm's Board. - I know and use several programming languages. - I've never had a girlfriend. - I use Linux. - The more useless a piece of information, the better I remember it. |

"A nerd is someone who uses a telephone to talk to other people about telephones." --Douglas AdamsOriginally posted by FreeDOSIf you think that's all it's got going for it, you're terribly superficial for a DOS user. My claim to whatever you want to label it is too big to be listed here. I've introduced countless things into this board that either wouldn't be here at all or be completely different. (CSS-based layouts and polls are the two biggest achievements.) |

Been thinking on learning C, becuse i have seen it used on a quite diffrent platforms. I actually have some unpartioned space on this somewhat decent computer, so maybe I try install Linux on this one too. I'm not going to throw out Windows as I said before thought. I think I could check out Slackware, althought it maybe is too steep for me... dunno I should check out my Linux installation on the other computer. Edit: Is actually using Fedora core 2 again... wow it's slow at times but I think I blame on the computer... being measly 450 mhz. And can anyone tell me why the text on Acmlm board is hard to read? There is some font I need to install? (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 03-07-05 11:17 AM) |

Let's see the platforms C runs on (ignoring hardware platform): Windows, DOS, *BSD, GNU/Linux, UNIX (heh... the last three OSes are coded in C), Mac OS Classic, Mac OS X (a derivation of NeXTSTEP and FreeBSD), BeOS, Game Boy Advance, iPod, etc... Quite literally... if there's an operating system, there's a C compiler for it sooner or later. Kitten Yiffer: You probably don't have the Microsoft Fonts installed. Jesper: Yes, I know the (minor) improvements of Windows XP over Windows 2000. I considered moving back once, but decided against. Mainly because activation requires Internet Explorer to run so I can't simply take it out of XP and still have a working OS (I have obtained the corporate version through the grey area (company), but haven't used it yet). If I ever get a tattoo, it would be something nerdy and sure something I won't regret. Things like Mario, and not things I started to like last year or something. I don't know about Slackware, since well... I can install a few things through the terminal and I can work around in a command line enviroment but i'm not very used to Linux in average. Althought is it easy to install on a dual-boot system? Edit: Besides I don't mind looking through alot of documentation to make it work, as long I have the time... Quite easy... though you may want to partition your disk before hand. Slackware's installer disc only comes with fdisk and cfdisk. And by comparison, they're little more flexible than the DOS fdisk (create, delete, etc). Use QtParted on SystemRescueCd to resize partitions and stuff. Slackware will install LILO (LInux LOader; the MBR) automatically. If you have Windows, it'll default to that. Go ahead and install it on the MBR. It has a warning, but it won't hurt anything (installing LILO on MBR used to make WinNT systems not bootable, but now it can boot WinNT). |
