Well for people like me who makes lot of typos, I thing it would be great if we could edit the thread title at the same time we're editing the post. I find it annoying to bother an admin just to change a thread title.

I've never actually had to rename a thread, but I see how it could be useful, especially to fix typos...

I guess only mods/admins can rename threads because if everyone could rename their own threads, at least a few people would change their thread titles to totally random stuff every few days/hours/minutes and confuse everybody...

Indeed Brandon. Maybe a conformation javascript? Or how about a spell checker? I seen one of those on another board. Even possibly the ability to edit it only once.

Well, then we should be able to edit the thread title, but with a time-limit. Like, I dunno, 2 hours after the thread is created, it's too late, you can't change it anymore.

A confirmation page won't be too hard to program in. But I find that annoying though. Then again, there is a preview button. So, i guess there shouldn't be a need for this function because that is what preview is for

Even though I'm making grammar mistakes as I'm not a native English person, the _title_ should be the most important. If someone doesn't care enough to write "HLEP!!!!1 Im having a virsu", this won't look that serious.

As stated, preview helps a lot - and for editing the posts there is editpost.php

No... if you need it changed, just ask a mod/admin... thats why they're here, right?

Besides, it has a possibility for abuse... like said before...

uh, why not just make it so it can only be edited once...if you made a mistake, most likely you will only need once to fix it, so 1 time edit would work nicely I would think.

I'm having trouble thinking of any capacity for abuse (assuming the old thread names are archived), other than how annoying it would be if someone kept changing their thread names.

Now what would also be handy is a delete thread option - only available before any replies to the thread (that part's important). Also, the deleted thread would not be removed from the database in case something really funky was going down.

First of all, we -do- have an edit, just not for thread titles, because it's easy to just tell someone. Second of all, I've removed the ~0.5MB image in your sig and please do not put it back in. Third, yes, we've been considering letting people edit thread titles too, but like you say there has to be reasonable limits, and we just haven't agreed on those limits yet. The actual coding is piece of cake.

Actually, most forums I go to don't have an edit feature at all.

So be grateful with what you have.

What software do they use...

Almost all boards I've ever been to DO have an edit feature...

Older (but still many available) newsgroups/usenet networks don't have post counters, avatar support, signatures and all that other stuff, too.
When you can't remove nasty errors due to a missing edit button, you simply submit a new post. As there also the threads and replies are posted in a tree-structure (referring to a certain post or not at all), it is to see the hierarchy easily, too

I rarely see one without an edit feature. A lot don't let you edit thread titles, but will let you edit the post.

I also like the idea of deleting threads if nobody's replied. I often find myself posting a question, then finding the answer a few minutes later.

Well, I would like to see that certain users could change their own thread titles. Users with a certain amount of posts or something, and if they abuse it. They could loose their right to edit their own thread titles, and the orginal title of a thread should be stored somewhere too.

Then, it's really not that hard to ask someone in staff to change the thread title for you.

Well, it'd suck to have a thread here about "what boards do you visit?" but here:

GameFAQs (I use a special browser to use, though )
Gensou
Zeikfried.com
Frozen Oven (not at home... can't check my bookmark )
Special Ops

Yes... :/ ... OSBA is the only other one I go to, and it has an edit feature, but not for titles (Invision, yuck).
