I realize that we have a WWE thread but I don't like the WWE. It's all about reputation there. In the indies, it's about talent so we actually see GOOD matches and none of this pregnancy crap. My favourite Indy fed is Ring of Honor. All about talent; all feuds are about in ring matches and nothing else.

http://japw.net/multimedia/videos/brainbuster.wmv one my favourite moves from the indies. Excuse the commentary explosion.

I can tolerate the indy wrestling, yes I can. Don't see as much of it as I should though...

Then again, I have very good wrestling tastes. Everyone from Rey Misterio Jr. to Ayako Hamada to Ricky Marvin to Kevin Steen.

They haven't really run any good shows lately. Kinda sad, but my interest in wrestling's faded since I went to that Smackdown! taping in December 2002.

(Oh, and I believe there's indy discussion in the WWE thread... maybe make it a general wrestling topic?)

Kevin Steen is cool, but my favourite wrestlers are either Alex Shelley or CM Punk. They're both awesome.

Jack Evans is just a plain wacko.

Oh, Alex Shelley. I'm told he's the bomb diggity y0. Liked what I saw of him in TNA, so let's hope he works up here at some point.

And haven't seen CM Punk wrestle, but his LiveJournal's quite the interesting read.

I've spoken with Alex Shelley. Quite the nice fellow; doesn't reply often because he's busy but whatever works. He's a talented submission artist. CM Punk is funny as hell with A LOT of talent to boot.

And I have a friend currently training to become a wrestler (he went to Charlotte for 3 months and should be going back there in the summer) so nyah!

I have a huge wrestling backlog sadly. So much on tapes to watch (some old ROH, a bunch of Japan stuff, etc.), but so little time.

Ass Punch is MEANT to be lame. Those were more of joke videos, anyways. Most of the stuff is quite serious.

If you like WWE style then you'll probably like ROH because the wrestlers are SO talented. The guy who jobbed to Chris Masters was an ROH guy and that's kind of disgraceful because had it been a real match, Masters would be out in about 30 seconds.

If it was a shoot match, maybe.

Then again, I find it funny how apparently we're allowed to have Superstars squash matches on TV again in 2005.

Tragic, really. John Walters, the one who jobbed, WAS the ROH Pure Champ at the time but recently lost the title.

Kind of sad when WWE needs to use indy guys to get their steroid charged losers over.

True. I really prefer watching non-WWE wrestling, its easier here in Britain since theres a whole 2 channels dedicated to CZW, ROH, NJPW, NOAH, FWA, TNA etc. etc. I also like watching my old ECW DVDs as well.

I like CM Punk and Colt Cabana, I also dig Petey Williams, though mostly for the Canadian Destroyer . Any matches involving Low Ki and AJ Styles are worth watching, those two are very talented performers.

Indy wrestling is a lot more.... spot-based, to put it bluntly, and sometimes it works but a really well worked match that builds up with psychology and sheer tension works better. Benoit vs. Guerrero at Super J '94 is one of my all-time favourites, though Douglas vs. Scorpio at ECW Matter of Respect '96 is also a fave. I know they're not really indies as such but they're still alternative matches from WWE and the old WCW, anyone here got any favourites?

Austin Aries vs Brian Danielson, 8/7/2004. 2/3 falls.

44 minutes in, Aries makes Danielson tap to his own finisher, Cattle Mutilation.

About 64 minutes in, Danielson twists Aries into a Cattle Mutilation Pin and gets the fall.

At roughly 75 minutes, Aries hit an avalanche brainbuster followed by three normal brainbusters then a 450 for the win.

I've heard varying opinions about that match. I think it all depends how patient you are when it comes to long matches.

There's a flawed perception out there that any match which goes long is automatically good. While a lot of good matches usually aren't 7-8 minutes long, there are some which hover around the 10-15 minute mark and are quite entertaining, if not great. And then sometimes I see a comment like "They went 50 minutes, it's gotta be good" which makes me roll my eyes.

Since I heard of the bra and panty matches of WWE I lost all respect for womens wrestling.
