| I used to use Tabbrowser Extensions which was great and provided a metric assload of configurability. The downside was that it's a bit of a memory hog - a result of the author literally rewriting the entire tabbed browsing part - "tabbrowser". But now, someone has thought hard and come up with the fact that "hey, we have these fifty small-purpose tabbed browsing extensions, but wouldn't it be neat if we just made one extension with most of the features in TBE instead?", and so they did. Tab Mix is a kick-ass extension that makes tabbed browsing more flexible. It can help spawn multiple rows when the tabs overflow (like TBE), it can do drag and drop reordering of tabs (like TBE), even combine these (UNlike TBE) and it also has lots of setting to tweak like how to behave in the way of spawning new tabs or windows depending on what link or bookmark you click or URL you enter - less than TBE, but I find that I don't miss the extra options because it behaves the same way now as when I had TBE installed. And since it doesn't have to rewrite the tab component, it's lighter and Firefox, while not exactly slow before, is definitely snappier now. The home page of the extension warns that it may be instable, but I've been using it for a few days now and it hasn't crashed once. I highly recommend this extension. If you are using Firefox, install this extension now. It's that good. |

| Usually I'm satisfied when using browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs with the value 'true' in about:config - unlocking the feature "Open Links in New Tabs" in the settings panel  But I also used Tabbrowser Extensions and realized, I don't need it. As for that extension, it seems to be nice, the mark unread tab feature seems very nice; if I knew more JavaScript/XML/whatever to make it another unread colour than red, it surely would fit greatly and not hurt the eyes  (edited by Lezard Valeth on 03-04-05 02:59 PM) |

| meh... it's my opinion that Mozilla's default tab thingers is enough, even if it's basic. The only thing I added was "Undo Close Tab" Often, tabs seem to get in the way instead of helping. Suppose you're paraphrasing an article in a post you're making. Multiple windows would definately be a better choice. |

Thanks for pointing this extension out, Jesper - I was looking for something along these lines, especially for the tab ordering aspect.  Works like a charm and it's quite customizable to boot. |

You can... re-order the tabs...  I wish my taskbar could do that.Does it have an option to make it that any time any program tries to launch a new browser window and one's already open, the link opens in a new tab instead? (Actually I think I found that in Mozilla's about:config, but testing is needed. ) If so, I think I'm gonna spooge myself.But what would be really cool is if you could drag a tab onto the taskbar and have it launched in a new window. Sometimes multiple windows is useful... |

| *installs Firefox* Damn, I shoulda done this a long time ago. This looks nice... Like a whole new browser, but everything I liked about Mozilla is still there. (Makes me wonder if the last version I tried even was Firefox... It was nowhere near as good as this.) The ability to install an extension just by clicking it, combined with the security of having to add the site to a white list first and some warnings here and there, is fricken awesome. Anyway, I figured I'd go look at some extensions, and this one caught my eye, but when I try to install it it says it's not a valid XPI package.  (Note the 'os=windows' in the URL; it used to be 'os=linux', but apparently that wasn't the problem.  ) This happens with a few others as well, some of which truncate the URL to 'https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/undefined'. (This happens with every extension under Download Tools, and several others. Very annoying to say the least.  )[edit] Oh, and no, this isn't the only reason I installed it. It helped though. | I've always thought that myself. It does the same with Proxomitron disabled... I've found that going to the 'More Info' page and clicking the Install link there works for most of them, but some still do it (though the URL doesn't say undefined). |

| HyperHacker, you might try to save the .xpi onto your harddrive, having the containing folder and Firefox on the same screen, while its Extension Manager also is opened and visible. Now drag the xpi into the Extension Manager. If it installs, you are on the good side. If it messes up Firefox (should not do that usually, as FF refuses to install outdated extensions anyway since 1.0 PR), delete the extensions.rdf in the applications/userdata folder within "Mozilla". This method also works when the installation process doesn't work on a website but the .xpi itself is okay normally. (edited by Lezard Valeth on 03-07-05 06:05 AM) |

Thanks, that worked great.  (Except for one, which appears to have a broken link entirely...) Firefox now looks like some of the worst spyware-infested copies of IE I've seen - except everything in it is a safe and useful item I added myself. Now THAT is nice. |

| I've found a problem with this extension in particular, though since no one else has mentioned it it might just be me. It doesn't save my preferences between browsing sessions. =( It reverts to the default every time I start the browser. | |||

It's not doing that for me. I had some trouble getting it (and most other extensions) to work right at first though; all the list boxes were really small and empty and the buttons didn't work.
