I think I saw this on Slashdot. Yeah, Yahoo's 10. So are a few other companies and groups, such as Apache, ebay, Amazon and Netscape. Happy 10th Anniversary, guys. |

I actually remember seeing them for the first time back in 1995/1996. They used to be the most visited site on the net. Now google passed that... But keep in mind that Yahoo are far from dying or anything like that, they're getting alot more visitors today than for eight years ago. Althought it's a much less percental of the total internet users who even visit it nowdays. Yahoo is a... well. I wouldn't doubt if that site was always remembered as one of the pionners on the internet. (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 03-02-05 04:19 PM) |

Yeah, makes me feel old I first started seeing Yahoo when it was three, so it makes me feel very old. In today's terms, we're pretty much newbies to the internet, but in thirty years time, we'll have practically been around from the beginning We'll have been telling n00bs where to shove it for three decades! I'm not suprised there are so many people turning 10 now. You can see that it has something to do with Internet Explorer shipping with Windows and people learning how to use the world wide web for about a year or so. But so many wonderful things are so recent, for instance Google and Firefox, makes me think of what might be just around the corner (edited by Kasumi-Astra on 03-02-05 06:48 PM) |

We first got the Internet in 1995, and I don't remember much about it, but I do remember that we used Yahoo as our search engine of choice... So yeah, I used Yahoo back when it was new, I guess. And as I recall, there was a hell of a lot less on the Internet than there is now. |

Actually, it's just as big as I remember it All I remember is not having enough time and energy to read that next good site I found, and it's still happening today. It's not as often that I just go off on one and surf, though. I'm tagged down to messageboards, news and webcomics mostly. It's still a lot of fun to find new websites, but it just requires so much energy to trawl through the crap to get one good site |

*pauses* Amazon's 10? That one really surprises me if it's true... I was thinking maybe 7-8 at most. EVERYONE used Yahoo in the mid-90's, but back then you had like 7-8 search engines that were widely used. |

Originally posted by Kasumi-Astra Google's not recent either, it's about 7 years old now. But yes, it's a lot newer than Yahoo, that's for sure. It's also a hell of a lot better for search than Yahoo now, but then search is no longer Yahoo's primary thing. And gah, realising that Google is 7 is a reminder that time really flies. |

It's only recently that it's really been popular, though. Google didn't take off until at least 2000, which firmly puts it in the modern era of the internet... Post .com boom. | |||

It took Firefox a little while to get popular too, and a few name changes... Firefox is significantly younger than Google though, I'm guessing maybe 3 years old. Ahh, how decieving popularity is when it comes to something's age. |

If you count Firefox's heriatage, then it gets a hell of a lot older than that That would make it 10 years old too Firefox's recent heriatage puts it at between a year and two years old, at most, I reckon |

Well, I was using Firebird 0.6 getting closer to two years ago ; I'm willing to give it another year before that to get through 0.0 - 0.5..... So that's why I guessed 3 years. The more I think about this the more I realise that time moves fast..... *goes off to listen to "Do You Realise" by the Flaming Lips, and sulk that she's getting old and life is passing by ENTIRELY too quickly* *sulkitysulk* (edited by Tarale on 03-02-05 08:00 PM) |

Hey, those Yahoo button graphics were pretty high-tech for 10 years ago! This whole time thing is REALLY gonna nail us when the 20-year anniversaries come... heck, the Pokemon 10-year anniversary is next year I think (for Japan). That's REALLY scary. |

March 2nd = Best Day Ever My birthday was today also, but sadly I'm not 10 anymore. It is also the birthday of the greaest writer ever, Dr. Seuss. I'm an older kind of fellow and I still read those books. But I've been dialing BBS's for a while now, well not that much anymore since they don't really exist anymore. And in 10 years I have seen stuff I would never imagine would happen. Especially all the new high-tech wizardry that Yahoo has now, like news that updates every 5 minutes for my sick news addiction. |

Yahoo is not the best search web out there. Google is the best web search out there I am just making an opinion for myself that it is the best, but I don't if it was heard of 10 years more than yahoo. |
