Majora's Mask doesn't START set in a completely different universe. Link starts in Hyrule, he gets the Ocarina of Time from Zelda, he goes to find Navi, THEN he goes to the alternate dimension. Plus the Skull Kid is the same one you give the Skull Mask to in OoT. It has LOADS of things linked to OoT. Termina is an alternate of Hyrule, borrowing many features from Hyrule from OoT. The backstory is that Link is searching for Navi after saving Hyrule. The Ocarina of Time is a major feature in the background of Majora's Mask. Plus it was always pegged by the creators as a direct sequel beforehand. Link is no Time Warrior. Link cannot just travel in time just like that. He is the Hero of Time, but only in ONE game. And he has no innate time travelling abilities. In Wind Waker he is called the Hero of Winds, and in ALttP he is called the Hero of Hyrule. However, it's true that he is a legendary hero that usually shows up when a great evil occurs. Resurrected, if you will. In most games it is a new Link. In some games it IS the same Link and it is often just plainly stated that he is. |

I am aware. But you see, different universe could also equate to a different country/time period in Hyrule (think prehistoric). I've played the games, this is my interpretation. And I never said that he was a magical time travelling super dude. But due to the fact that he travelled time ONCE the time stream is inadvertantly changed, and thus can exist in multiple universes/times at once.

Ah, but as shown in OoT when talking to the man in the windmill, he can't change the future by his actions in the past. His actions in the past have already happened, y'see? Otherwise Link would never of learned the Song of Storms. As for Termina, it's stated in the manual as an 'parallel world' to Hyrule. I see your idea about it being a different country to Hyrule, one might think that but the statement in the manual seems to suggest otherwise (along with a few in-game events). A different time peroid is vaguely possible, but Hyrule was always Hyrule since the goddesses made it, Termina is looked after by completely different gods (the Four Giants). Also, when Link falls into Termina it doesn't give the impression of falling back or forth through time. Minor thing, but if it was intended to be a travel through time then they probably would of implied that somehow. Also, the main problem with all that is that *apparently* Link's adventure in Termina is mentioned in Wind Waker somewhere. |

Yeah, I looked for that. Couldn't find it. Regardless of his actions changing the future he is permanently in time now, because whenever time is changed (ie. going through it) a copy of the person is created. Thus, it could be plausible that as we play the games (as far as a games mytho can go) all of the various avatars of the original Link are existing simultaneously, hence his actions in the past can not affect himself in the future. |

I've looked into the Majora's Mask references. Basically, they are as follows:Said by the King of Red Lions outside the Tower of the Gods, preparing for the Earth and Wind TemplesI've underlined the important part. Text from the Legend pages found in the Tower of the Gods using the Tingle TunerAll of this refers to Majora's Masks's Tingle. Apart from that, there are some less direct references that don't really confirm anything: The Legend at the beginning of the game shows Link riding away from Hyrule on a horse. Carlov (the Nintendo Gallery guy) has the All-night Mask on his wall (he also has the Bunny Hood, Goron Mask, and Keaton Mask, but they appear in OoT, where-as the All-night Mask didn't). The Rito Postman that stands behind the counter sorting letters (you talk to him to play the letter-sorting mini-game is identical (ignoring that he's a Rito) to the postman in Majora's Mask (also, thus, the Running Man in OoT, but the reason for him being identical is the postman, not his running man counter-part, so it's a MM reference (the postman also appear in Minish Cap, so he's now just one of the many recurring characters)). And one of the least-obvious ones, the Hylian text on the Phantom Ganons' swords translates to "Zubora Gabora", which are the names of the Mountain Smithies in Majora's Mask. |

While the first quote is rather ambigious, the second quote appears to be an almost direct referance to Majora's Mask. It talks about the hero being 'lost in darkness', which would referance to Link not knowing his way around Termina. Also, his age I believe is the same age given for Tingle in MM. Just checked, and indeed it is. |

Im sure there are alot of different Links. However, the same Link can appear in more than one game... These are in no specific order, just typing what pops into my mind.... Link A-Oracle of Seasons /Oracle of Ages (Thats pretty obvious ) Link B-OoT / Majoras Mask Link C- Legend of Zelda Link to the Past Link D- Wind Waker / Minish Cap etc...etc Now as for Dual Timelines. Its pretty interesting. At the end of OoT Link is sent back in time to the point where he meets Zelda. So did the events of the game never happen? In Majoras mask he is sent to a new world as a child, which would make you think that he the events in OoT did not happen. Now I bring up a theory that I came up with at the beginning of playing Wind Waker. Ok, so Link saved Hyrule and was sent back in time. I think the events happened again (you cant change fate and all that) So Hyrule was saved but this time he wasnt sent back by Zelda. Instead he remained Hero of Time beloved by the people. He probably used the temple of time to hop between times, and one day while in the "past" he was sent to Termina. Now you have to what if during his time in Termina Hyrule was attacked again...but Link was no where to be found. The theme of Time in Majoras Mask could justify this, if time in Termina passed completly different from time in Hyrule. His 3 day adventure could have lasted 3 years in Hyrule, in those 3 yeard Gannon could have destroyed the land. Now as I type this I came up with a theory of the new Link. What if this new Link is actually the Link from Majoras Mask, 3 days passed in Termina but ALOT of time has passed in Hyrule...or the world of Hyrule at least. So now its the Hero of Times duty to restore the land. Oh and this time he grew up normally Then what of WW Link? This is all just theorizing we cant really make a good guess at what the new Zelda will deliver. There are just too many possibilities. |

We went over this. Link sleeps for seven years, awakens and kills Ganon(dorf). Then he goes back, and goes to Termina, and presumably other places. Seven years after this, Link "appears again" and kills Ganon(dorf) in Hyrule, while the young Link is off somewhere else. Think of it like Back to the Future; there are two Links at one time, until one Link goes back in time to become the other Link. |

Maybe this is a stupid question, but is this going to be like a 3D OoT-style game, or 2D, or what? An OoT-style DS game would rule so frickin much, but I thought FSA looked pretty neat too. Those cartoony-style graphics work quite well in a 2D game. Either way, sounds awesome, but will it be able to compete with the futuristic, ultra-real video games of 2012?Originally posted by NSNickOriginally posted by windwakerby Nazi scientists! Well, I am going to stick with my idea. After he killed Ganon in the future, he went back. Seven years later, nothing happened. Ganon was already defeated and if he were alive, there would be two Links in the same time, and I am fairly sure there was just one (dont even say anything about Dark Link).

Kario, you forget that as soon as Link goes back in time for the first time in OoT, there are already two Links. One of them is trapped in the Sacred Realm, and the other one has just transported back from the future. It's nice and simple to think that beating Ganon in the future defeated him in the past, but it makes no sense and also means the whole Imprisoning War as it is told in later games never happened. But it MUST happen. Anyway, I actually hate the theory about time passing differently in Termina. Why should three days in Termina mean three years in Hyrule? It's a very convenient little theory but WHY? There's no hints at it, and to be honest there are more reasons why not than why. Remember, Skull Kid, Tatl and Tael appear in Hyrule to start with but obviously spend most of their time in Termina. That means they've been hopping two and from the worlds at their will. Imagine what utter chaos that would cause to them if time travelled differently in either world. You have to remember that after Link's adventure in Termina he STILL hasn't found Navi, so his quest isn't over so there is no need for him to return to Hyrule Castle, so the 'time travels differently' idea isn't even required at all. |

Well, I do find it stupid that people dont even accept it as a Zelda game because of the gfx. It was Zelda through and through.

It's not a bad game because of the graphics. And the graphics are rather well done. I just don't feel that they suit a Zelda game. Plain and simple. It didn't detract from my enjoyment, I just would've rathered a realistic Zelda game.

Wind waker was actually lacking in severeal ways, such as the sailing being too big part of the game... But graphics wasn't one of my reasons. However I would say that cel-shaded graphics would fit a kid link... on a adult one it wouldn't. Besides, the style is similar to the one they use in the GBA games. But none complains about thoose. |

Originally posted by Ziffski Suit a Zelda game? No offense, I can sort of see your thinking, but look at this objectively... Every Zelda game other than OoT and Majora's Mask (and The Adventure of Link) have had 'cartoony' graphics, with ALttP being the biggest example before Wind Waker. Wind Waker was merely a realisation of that style in 3D (and slightly more stylised, of course, but still). Wind Waker has more 'Zelda-like' graphics than OoT when you look at the series in full. Kitten Yiffer, the style in Four Swords, FSA and Minish Cap is identical to the WW style, which itself is derived from the style of ALttP and LA. |
