Ugh... This post comes after a string of false alarms in my block in my halls of residence. Since the beginning of this term, we've had many fire alarms late at night. This one that has got me up now was deliberate. It's about three in the morning, and I don't enjoy getting woken up, let alone by a screeching alarm. It makes me feel extremely scared and shakey, and I lose sleep over the whole thing. As well as that, someone's been trigger happy with one of the fire extinguishers. So, it brings me to a point. How can someone thrive of disruption? Why are people compelled to make other people's lives difficult? What is there to be gained? |

Because they get a kick out of it. I can't really give you a super-psychological analysis of it, but to be blunt, some asshats get pleasure out of other's suffering. It's all about their enjoyment, they don't care about the suffering. (Trust me, I know... school trip, most of the class, like idiots, decide to have a party right next door to our room.) I personally believe in the whole "what goes around, comes around" karma, but that's just me. |

yeah, it's sad that there are people like that in this world. There isn't much that can be done unless there is monitoring of the alarms (like cameras that record what happens at the alarms). Otherwise, this is another reason of why you should find a place outside of campus sponsored housing (not unless you are living in an apartment then, i'm not sure )

I'm in one of the three big non-university funded halls in the city. It's as modern as you could ask for, but there are always so real jerks around Also, when we got outside, there was a llarge group of people from the hall opposite ours that were completely drunk and picking fights with each other. Our halls are basically saving money on not providing an on site security guard. It's a shame, there should be someone present all night to deal with these things. If this had been a real fire, then people would've died. Only the minority of people actually got out and evacuated |

These type of people are pathetic... Somedays I wish I could just grab an unlimited ammo rocket launcher and kill all the fu**ers. Seriously, how can they get a kick out of other people's suffering? They don't exactly deserve to live... The should all die painfully. (Oviously it's obvious that I've been a dubject to bullying in the past... Pathetic) |

What almost bugs me more is that at my apartment they have lots of people from all over the world (who no speak English) and when our fire alarm sounds I'll be outside and some people will just stare at you from their rooms on the 10th floor or whatever, dumbfounded. One time we had an actual fire but it wasn't serious. Really pisses me off at how stupid people can be. Loud noise = get the hell out. Need to figure out how to write that in Korean. Tell me about it, in elementary school we was plagued by fire alarms. Althought they was kinda real. It was either smoke from Chemistry when they forget to turn off the smoke detectors, or in home economics when someone burnt chicken... How often does those fire alarms come? If there is a pattern, then maybe it would be possible to bust the offender. Althought then someone would have to loose sleep to find out who it is. And it can't be a single person, it could be severeal. I'm so hoping this won't be too common when I get higher on the education ladder. |

Originally posted by Kitten YifferMost schools don't have this problem. I haven't heard anything like this at my campus. I'm sure if this was a rampant problem, it'd be printed in the newspaper by now. At my university, academic probation is the punishment if you are caught as well as subsequent fees for covering each false alarm. |

hey. That happened to my school too. A whole bunch of Grade 12 idiots kept on pulling the fire bells. Grad was almost cancelled, but the alarms faded out fast enough to prevent that. I still don't understand why people do that sort of c***. There is no need. It's like the boy who cried "wolf!". |

That happened to me once...we were staying in a Holiday Inn in Canada, and there was this huge kids' hockey tournament that weekend, or something like that, and they were all staying at that hotel. The kids were making a tremendous amount of noise, running up and down the hallways all night, pushing all the elevator buttons so that the elevators stopped at every single floor...and at 4:00 AM, one of them pulled the fire alarm. I remember waking up, thinking that it was a real fire...but no, it was just a bunch of dumb moronic kids whose parents apparently let them run loose in the hotel all night.

This just happened again at my school today. About 5 minutes before lunch, fire alarms went off and we all had to go down to the football field. The school staff spent the entire lunch looking for the kids who did it (there were 3 guys who were missing, after all the teachers took rollcall), which made everyone not get a lunch today. I normally get to come home at lunch because of my schedule, but instead I had to bake in the sun. It was very irritating. Im not sure if they ever found those kids or if they just gave up. This happens almost once a week now.. how immature can you get.
