So, are we talking about the Terry Schiavo case here? cause the link isnt working. In the Terry Schiavo case. I feel that it would be better to let her live in the parents care. Her ex husband has stated he has moved on with his life so I dont know why he cares. Well actually, I think I do. He is entitled to insurance money when she dies. And it is said that he caused her to be in the condition she is now. X-rays taken about a year or so after she entered her current state they showed that she had bruised ribs. Signs he could have abused her. Actually, the rumour is he strangled her and brought her to this condition. Certainly now he is showing signs of being the abusive type. Look how he continues to take away whatever rights he can from her parents to see their daughter. Currently he is planning to have her cremated, but her being catholic the family feels she should be given a proper christian burial. And so far he has not announced whether the funeral will be public or private. I wouldn't be suprised if he were to privatize it and not invite the parents. He has even decided he is going to bury her ashes in HIS family burial plot, while the parents wanted to have her in their family plot where they could visit her. So he is even trying to take away their right to see their daughter after she is dead. I also seeen him being interviewed on Larry King, and most of his conduct was pretty calm and composed, but there was a moment where I could see it was clear spin and he didn't release the complete story. It was an attempt to villianize the parents to make them appear they don't care for their daughter (Which is obviously not true). His lawyer intervened tho and filled in the missing details. Anyway, I think if she does have to go, it shouldn't of been the way she is going now. It's one thing to pull the plug on a brain dead person, cause it is a quick death. But this woman can breathe on her own. So pulling the plug isn't an option. You have to dehydrate her until she dies, which is pretty shocking to see in america. I mean, even your hardened criminals aren't taken out in that way. They get a short death (5 minute max). I'd of been a little more for her death if they had administered some sorta drug or something more humane. In closing, Micheal Schiavo is a bastard and I'd like very much to see him taken out in the same manner he took his wife out. Yup, it was an interesting ride. I heard that someone actually put a bounty on The husbands head. The story is true, but I think the bounty was false. I don't think the person was actually gonna pay out 250,000. I heard that someone (Maybe terry schiavo's brother) is launching a internet petition to have the judge that presided over Terry's case impeached from his position. Even if the petition is filled they say it's likely nothing will happen. If I find where the petition is tho I will sign it anyway. Pretty much all I can do from where I'm at. I'm glad she died. She had no chance at all of living a normal life, due to the brain damage. Consider the type of 'life' she's been living these past, what, 15 years? Put yourself in that position. Keeping her alive would be selfishness at its worst.

it's about time.... I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did without the feeding tube.. and I'm amazed that I agree with Tamarin.... keeping her alive is really selfish.... she should have died years ago.... instead of being the way she has been |

...Well. She wasn't expending any calories, so the feeding tube gave her enough calories for her body to burn slowly. I thought she would die Saturday at the earliest

Well, I was not neccesarily saying she shouldn't die, but she shouldn't be killed the way she was. It just doesn't seem like something we would do in US. It's a slow death and deserved to die with some dignity, They spend the moeny to take out criminals out humanely. Why not civilians too? Besides, that is the most humane thing to do for the survivors. Nothing can be worst for the parents than to watch their child die slowly. How the hell can you get over something like that? BTW Ziff, she did not die from starvation, but from Dehydration. |

Yes I am aware. But generally, it works in the same way. She is not using those resources because her body is working on a minimum amount of activity. As for her parents. They are greedy people who were being quite selfish. Not cool. |

to chime in late, my brief description about why this should have never made national media like it did: *court after court decided as a matter of fact that Terri's wishes in that situation were to have not continued living *Florida law gave control of the situation to the husband *Tom Delay sucks 7 cocks *Michael chose this option after 15 years of searching medically for some or any way of giving his wife Terri back her life, and found, unfortunatly, that the situation was without hope. I'll defer to earlier comments about certain vital organs being turned to goo. *Tom Delay sucks 7 cocks *I sincerely doubt it was "God's will" to have a rotting corpse sitting in a bed until the rest of their body fails. If you interpret it logically, it was probably "Heaven's will" to have her die in the first place, and our intervention that played god i rest my case. (edited by Gavin on 03-31-05 07:42 PM) |

Actually, there was a number of medical treatments that the husband did not try. I can't remember the specifics but the parents were pleading to have him try those as they are kinda standard ways of treating patients in her condition. The parents have said that they forgive him now. I still detest the man myself but at least the girl won't suffer anymore. The husband has agreed to an autopsy which was suprising to me. Probably one of the first smart PR moves he has made. The autopsy will confirm whether or not there was a chance she could have been rehibilitated and whether she suffered in her final days.

well...it seems this chapter of the story has now ended and a new one begins--states are beginning to set forth legislation that will now specify what happens in this situation so that this bloody thing won't happen again--or at least, not for another while...

the funny thing is that there was actually already perfectly clear laws existing to handle this... as court after court affirmed the original decision that, not based on what Michael said, but on Terri's siblings that her wishes would not have been to remain alive in that state. Her will was found.. the only real issue is how much control should we really allow such a small minority of protestors to exact on our politicians who tried, unrightly, to tamper with the well defined proceedings of our law. First of all, Michael Shiavo had given up on his wife years ago. As many as 11 years ago he thought she was a lost cause. He went through nursing school to try and help her, had doctors give her extensive therapy for those first 4 years. Now come on, if she doesn't respond then, how is she going to respond now? None of the treatments I had heard of sounded radically different from what was available 10 years ago. At best she might have been able to swallow on her own and move a few limbs. And given the duration of her state, it seems unlikely that rehabilitation would have worked after so long. MIchael Shiavo won a suit for $1 million sueing Terry Schiavo's doctors for neglecting her potassium deficiency, which allegedly caused her cardiac arrest. So, assuming he didn't squander that money, why would he need the silly trust fund from his wife? On the issue of it being an inhumane death: I believe it is more unnerving for loved ones, b/c the death is drawn out. The doctors recommending this method say it is painless to someone in the condition she was in. I can't really think of a humane way to kill someone. Maybe give them an extreme dosage of heroin? They'll die quite happy I guess. |
