Right now I'm working on a Super Mario Kart Hack, but I have some questions. First of all, does anyone have the offsets and tables for the level names text in Super Mario Kart? And secondly, how do you extract and insert the graphics from that game, so that they can be edited?

EDIT: Oh wait! Nevermind. It is 38.8

Hey all! I've been working on a Super Mario Kart Hack for a while now, and now I've finally finished. (Well, almost. I couldn't figure out how to extract the graphics. I'm such a newb at that stuff lol) These are some of the things that have been changed:

New, harder courses (mostly just because I've added new shortcuts that are very risky)

New battle courses

Slightly different Item Probabilities

And some text changes

Here are some screenshots:






Here's a link to the IPS File: Mario_Kart_Krash

Use Lunar IPS to patch it to this ROM: "Super Mario Kart (U) [!].smc"

(yes, I know there are places where you can get trapped, I put them there on purpose because I thought it would be funny, so you might want to use savestates while playing to avoid them, in case you make a mistake)

If you have any comments about the hack, feel free to post here. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Right now, I am almost finished. I just need to test the levels, and then I'm going to replace the soundtrack with music from some of the other NES games (only problem is I have know idea how too, lol)

Yeah lol. I got the idea from infidelity's Mega Man 2 hack, and I thought that it would look good in my hack, so I decided to use it.

I should note, though, that in the Blizzard Man screenshot, the first mountain looks pretty odd because the right side of the mountain cuts off behind the mainground.


Thank you so much for pointing that out! I probably never would have noticed that if you hadn't said anything about it. I just now fixed it.

I'm with NetSplit with the smb1 graphics, try another game like maybe Duck Tales or something. Seeing these screens gave the kick I need to do that MM1 hack with graphics from Darkwing Duck, but yeah if it was me I'd nix the smb1 graphics but it's your hack. Good luck with it though.


Well, I'm still probably going to keep the smb1 graphics. I mean, it just doesn't seem like a NES games without some of those good ol' classic smb graphics. But then again, that is just my opinion.

This might be a noobish question, but right now I am working on a MM1 Hack, and I wanted to make it so that there are color cycles in Wily Stage 1, so I opened Mega Man (U).ini and copied the color cycles offset from Fireman's Stage to Wily Stage 1, but when I play it in the emulator, it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone here know what the problem might be?

I right-clicked on the ROM file and clicked "Open With..." and chose Rock And Roll. Does this have anything to do with the problem?

I assume you want to preserve the clone's palette animation, so if you simply change $1F5E6 in a header ROM from #$03 (Fire Man's stage) to #$06 (Wily1), then Wily1 will be set as the exception stage for the palette animation rather than Fire Man's stage.



Okay...now I'm confused. You said that at $1F5E6, I change #$03 to #$06, and I opened up my rom in Translhextion, but at $1F5E6 it says #$47. Did you give me the wrong offset or something? Or am I doing something wrong? (Sorry for all these noobish questions)
