You were doing so well.... what happened?

And if you were lurking that long how do you not know who Koitenshin -∞ is? Iirc he was around since the middle of I3, iirc.

I should point out that the mnemonic BNE stands for Branch if Not Equal. It might be better to call it "Branch if not Zero" in some situations, b/c the only thing that affects whether the branch occurs is whether the Z (zero) flag is set in the P register. So if Z is not set, the branch will occur.

I've seen plenty of "null" branches. I imagine it is the byproduct of using an assembler and deleting code that was once there. For example:

LDA $44

BNE .dontDoSomething

LDA #$80 ; doing something

.dontDoSomething:

; code continues on

But later on the coder decides to eliminate the LDA #$80, maybe b/c the requirements of the game changed, but they forget to delete the branch too.

This of course assumes that existing emulators properly emulate said bank swapping. Which I find unlikely given that no SA-1 game even uses feature. In other words, you'd probably need a special emulator (at least for a while) just to play SMRPG hacks if that sort of thing was enabled.

I also don't know if it was ever confirmed whether the bankswitching even works on real hardware. I know the manual says it's a feature but sometimes documentation is wrong or outdated.

I don't know who told you that, but you are mistaken. Tales of Phantasia uses no special add on chips*, it just has a memory mapping chip that can address the full 48 megabits of the rom simultaneously. Star Ocean, on the other hand, uses the S-DD1 chip which is mainly used for fast decompression (similar to the SPC7110 used in FEOEZ). In any case, all SNES carts have a memory mapping chip. Having one that can address 48 megs is nothing special, it's just exotic.

And, why do people always post reply's telling people to go to Google?

Use some common sense. If you have to show people a video of a game just so they can remember it, chances are there's no hacks of it. Even some much more popular games have no hacks yet (Harvest Moon, for example). I've played a lot of SNES games, but have never even seen footage of this game, let alone played it. Chances are few people have either.

If you can't find anything about a Sunset Riders hack in the first 5 pages of google, it's really doubtful you're going to find much of anything elsewhere. Romhacking.net would be the next place I'd try, and see that there are none. And then I wouldn't make a thread about it b/c it would be pretty obvious none exist.

I guess the fact that most people hate it explains why it's so wildly popular. *facepalm*

I've never played a MGS game, but they don't look like they'd appeal to me. Other games that have stealth elements have pretty much annoyed me. That and I hate sitting through huge cutscenes (so I've heard that the MGS series has them).

I think some of you younger folks don't quite comprehend how big Galaga was at the time. You know how people in Korea die from huge marathons of gaming on games like Starcraft? Galaga is the 80s version of that. Some people were *that* addicted to it.

The only reason I have to not like Galaga is that it takes my money.

Deepdish pizza with the sauce on top and lots of cheese on the bottom. Edwardo's is a mainstream place that does it in the Chicago region.
