I'm guessing you get that heap violation b/c this mode was probably designed to run under on the Debug version of the DS, which has twice as much RAM as normal. (Hence, debug features, if left in, have no guarantee of working at all.)Basically it means a malloc() call failed.

Hiro: right, the point I was trying to make is that apparently the final fight levels use up too much memory if you're using a normal DS and not a special developer DS. The developer one has 8 megabytes of memory whereas the normal one only has 4 megabytes. Obviously since the developers figured you'd never find this they didn't bother trying to make it work with a normal DS.

So the normal levels apparently only use just enough memory to scrape by without causing this error with this mode. Modern console games are written in C and have the ability to dynamically allocate memory, whereas previous generations typically use a fixed amount of memory reserved for everything.

Well, I don't know the specs for GBA development machines but the same principle probably applies . If you want to do debugging you usually want more RAM.

That must be a real testament to the games graphics if he thinks its a DS game. I think those are like, screen captures of polygonal graphics that are converted to sprites. Which gives it its 3d Look. I seen some proto graphics of it when it was a gamecube game, and it was hand drawn sprites then, and it had a level editor. I guesss what you see here are some leftovers.


Sort of. I kind of forgot that the Mario vs. DK game for the DS was a sequel (march of the minis). Never played either of them anyway. But yes, those graphics do look pretty nice for GBA, which contributed to my screwup. .

I stopped using mIRC a long time ago, and I can't even remember why. Nowadays I use Chatzilla if I need to use multiple servers and Miranda if I only need to be on one server.

I'll agree with this on some level. It might be the difference between our machines...

It never causes me lag but it consistently eats up a lot of RAM and CPU time, but fortunately I have enough excess of both that it doesn't matter to me. It is part of the reason I upgraded to 2GB of RAM though.

start menu -> run -> cmd

(hit enter)

use DOS style commands to navigate to the folder that zcompress is in and then type zcompress.exe and hit enter.

Using command line apps is a pain but that's what zcompress is - a command line application.
