The Story is based off of SM64. Mario gets a letter from peach telling that she's baked a cake for Mario and he's invited to come. BUT WAIT! THERE'S A STORM COMING!!!

Ok I thought a video would be enough but here's the pics of my (For Now) first level: Peach Castle

We Enter here. Judging by the lightning, things dont look so good.

Here's Peach and Friends! Peach tells Mario the cake isn't ready yet and he should just go explore the castle.

Still Stormy, here we are in the courtyard!

Then Mario goes into a pipe into the sewers of Peach Castle. (Ignore the glitched spotlight, It'll be fixed.)

And now we're back at-OH NO BOWSER CAPTURED PEACH!!!

Bowser has somehow turned the water to lava in the courtyard, and there is now a goal here.

the status bar is disabled in these screens and not in the video?.

I would like a thwomp that stays on the ground and when mario gets near it, it goes up. Kinda like a reverse thwomp.

Yes, I know it's too linear and that koopa troopa string will be removed. I'll add another passage. Though you can't enter the castle after Peach is captured. I mean, what else could I do? I'm not an ASM god. And after that, the levels won't be linear. And, about the koopa string, in the original game, on the second level, there was one. I'm still gonna remove it and replace it with another enemy.

I don't really like the look of that castle tileset. Couldn't you make it darker and have some more chroma rather than being of a plain very bright gray shade?

Better, but still needs improvement. I don't see why there would be a smily Gusty in a dark place. Maybe edit its graphics so it's frowning instead of smiling. Also, the character palettes are too dark now.

There's a distinct line running down the bricks every few tiles.
Oh. I'll fix it.

Also, about the Gusty...

Alternatively, I could go with the 'evil' gusty look (I can change it back):

I haven't seen that page for what seems like a while now. In any case, whe can't use the forums, so it doesn't matter anyway, unless you wanted to read old news or look at SMW RAM, ROM Maps, it's basically useless right now.

This hack was Originally Known as Super Mario Chronicle: The Black Abyss, but I changed it to match the new story.

The full title is Super Mario Chronicle: Escape from The Prison Islands! I'm planning to have it be a half-action, half-story based hack, kind of like SMI2. The levels will mostly be Action-Packed, but there will be some story elements too, like cutscenes, and (An Original Idea by Yours Truly) playable Flashbacks to earlier times. Such "Flashbacks" will have a foggy HDMA effect like this:

That's right, this hack will have HDMA. I won't overuse cutscenes, flashbacks or HDMA too much, but when the situation calls for it, they will be used. I might also use HDMA to make a blue sky or sunset, but still, I don't want to overuse it.

Anyways, our story goes like this:

One day, Bowser invaded the Mushroom Kingdom and turned it into the Koopa Kingdom. He captured Princess Peach and Threw The Mushroom Kingdom's Residents into Prisons on the Prison Islands. Mario got thrown into one of such prisons, on Bellingham Isle. So Mario Must Escape and Rescue toads from Prisons, to Build up an Army so he can Overthrow Bowser, Rescue Peach, and Regain Control of the Mushroom Kingdom once and for all.

And now, the Part you've all been waiting for, the Screenies! (Keep in mind, some of them, like the last one of Bellingham Prison, are Very Dated)

Bellingham Prison:





This is the Prison Mario gets Locked in at the Start of the Game. Suprisingly, it is still under construction (Not in a "Work in Progress" kind of way, it's actually under construction, look at the screenshot.), and has many security flaws.

Bellingham Ridge:




A Bunch of Cliffs on Bellingham Isle. This area, in particular, has a very secure secret.

Overworld: (Very, very, beta)

Meh, Just some tilesets I ripped from spritesheets... (BTW, Many of the GFX are Ripped or Drawn By Me.)

All Screenshots are Under development and are Subject to Change.

And a very special thanks to Player 1, who helped me out with HDMA, gave me a few ideas, and is Beta-Testing the hack.

I started this hack last May.

Now, you might not know me here, but I go to SMWC much more often than here (I have about 1200 posts there).

You can expect a release of a 1-world demo by Mid-August, but I can't make any promises yet.

Fun Fact: Arbe brought up a Meatspin on Smwcentral, and then later hacked the site and wiped the entire hacks section. Later, he took over Ice Board. Everyone got pissed.
