Hey guys. Keiro Starr of Rocketech Productions here. Thanks to Matrixz updating MFLE to v0.6, I was able to return to work on this project. Progress is going well on the project, but don't expect it to be ready anytime soon. Right now, I'm just working on the level and gfx modding. Once I get a better understanding of asm hacking, I'll start adding new music and TSA effects.



I will be starting a blog soon, mentioning the overview and progress of the project.

First, of all. I am not a fan of your level designing. And every level designer must encounter and fix bugs. Especailly the doors data either by hand with the level RAM data or the TSA editor. Pretty nice boss rooms designs but no game ever does that.

Sprite designers can be hard to look for. Ask Thantos-Zero or Mega Man Omega. They're professional spriters.

Comet Woman? That was MegaPhil X's sprite from Mega Man Unlimited.

i cant say much about your level design that matters since its realy a matter of taste. i dont like to put mega man in sonics or marios world since i think hes levels should be dark and/or hi tech fabriks/caves etc etc.. but thats a matter of taste. you decide! but i think you should work more on those ladders. are they suppose to look like ropes? i cant tell iam sorry to say =( . altough good work otherwise!


Insect: I realize the entering of the boss rooms is nonconventional, but the reason for that is because I'm not a guy who is a slave to routine. I'm more of an "Outside-the-box" thinker. I have contacted Matrixz, Kuja Killer, and Infidelity for advice on asm hacking and strangely enough, they didn't have any to offer. I'll talk to Thanatos and Omega, see if they want to help. And I am Full aware that Cometwoman is MegaphilX's creation. But his Megaman game is a Windows game made with Multimedia Fusion. I want to put Cometwoman inside a NES rom. Completely different.

Micke: Those Ladders were supposed to be the palm trees from Green Hill Zone. but as I mentioned my spriting isn't good. And don't worry about the game being "dark" and "hi-tech". It'll get like that near the final levels.

I have to say, I like what you've done so far. I'd like to see you diverge a bit more from the original in your level design.

I like your Pharaoh and Dive Man levels the best. However, I did notice some minor problems. In the Dive Man stage, past the midpoint, there is a screen transition (from regular underwater to where you see the dropping skulls) that you can't survive without using Rush Coil to jump before you cross screens--the ledge is too short for Megaman to walk or slide on. In Pharaoh Man's stage, the area by the first gate that you have too sink through seems a little ill-defined--if you're too close to the gate, you'll transition into the middle of a wall in the next screen and die; while if you're a little bit too far, you'll simply fall down the bottomless pit. The ladder in the Bat Room in Drill Man's stage cannot be climbed all the way, nor can the first ladder in Ringman's stage.

Overall, this is a pretty nice start to your hack. I'll be looking forward to playing it when you're done. Keep up the nice work!


Thanks for pointing the errors out. I fixed them, so they should work in the next alpha release. I am still working on the hack, but due to my lack of spriting ability, just the structural editing feels like it will take forever. I have asked Thanatos-Zero to pitch in, but I have yet to receive any sprites from him. If anyone is interested in pitching in, please let me know.

Hack Update:

All right guys, the hack's 20% complete. I need to finish restructuring a couple of levels and do level tile editing. But once that's done, I will be changing the in-game mapper to MMC5 for more gfx and asm space. The reason for such is because some levels call for it. i/e Mecha Sonic Z's level will be more of a mashup of Sonic levels. Probably start with Green Hill then Spring Yard then Scrap Brain. Or better yet, I'll put up a poll so you can decide.

Also some changes will occur. Since Solar Man was announced for MM10, I will be changing him to an MM Rep, possibly from MM7 or 8. Comet Woman will stay on, because even though she is MegaPhilX's creation, she's still in an MM game. And since Splash Woman will act more as an ally for Megaman in this hack, that's as close to a female MM Game rep as I can get. Torpedo Woman, Suplex Man and Toxic Woman will remain. I will also put up a poll to decide who will be the MM past Male Boss master rep for the game.

Also I promised some cameos similar to what infidelity did in his game that will require custom asm as well as the new weapons. Support Items will include Rush Cycle, Giga Attack (similar to RM4MI's Wish Star Adaptor) MM7 Rush Suit, Tango Armor, and Eddie On-Demand. These will replace R. Marine, R. Jet, R. Coil, Wire and Balloon. And different to the OG MM4, These will be obtained via upgrade capsules. There will be upgrades applicable to every weapon, including Every Weapon Charge-up, Enhanced Dash and Battle Armor Upgrade.

Plus I need to put limitations on the game for the first Beta release like Matrixz and infidelity did with their games. So I can't promise a full release let alone a beta release in 2010, but perhaps an alpha will pop up from time to time. So stay tuned.

What the f**k is up with the picture in your sig?


Practical joke by the site owner where I got the original sig. Fixed it though.

Anyway, the monotony of the glass tubes in Torpedo Woman's stage has been eating at me lately. I think what I'll do is get some Maridia Super Metroid Sprites ported to 8-bit, but keep the glass tubes for use as Sonic-style Zoom Tubes. Some will even hold missiles that launch and seek out MM.

The grass in Mecha Sonic's level needs to be fixed as well as the "palm-tree" ladders. The checkered tiles won't change however, because I looked at the sprites from Sonic 8-bit on GG and SMS and they looked the same.

And the weird thing is that modifying level tiles has strange effects on the other level. In Dustman's level, which I have not modified yet, the ceiling crushers throughout the level have their tiles all scrambled. Modifying some levels also caused ripple effects like the corrupted screen in Ring Man's level in the 1st Alpha.

I'm working hard to fix all this. My only problem I have is when I change the game mapper to MMC5, it will be rendered useless in MegaFLE X. I'm not sure how I'll work around that.

When I look for music headers, I use my FCEUX Debugger. It helps. All music rom offsets in Mega Man 4 goes from $3A010 to $4000F. You just debug the music for only 1 level. Let the whole music play. Then open your FCEUX hex editor and you should see highlighted blue hex codes there.



Okay, now what would be a good resource to find music to port to the game?

And How to I go about changing the game mapper?
