at least its IRC part, roughly along the "for pre-Xkeeper Acmlm's Board way of running things" and "for Xkeeper's way of runnings things" line.

You know, it's interesting... Jul actually reminds me a lot more of the "classic" Acmlm's Board era (I tend to think of this as the first incarnation era) than this one does... Not in how it's run, but the general atmosphere overall...

And this comment is almost totally irrelevant, but a decent chunk of the relevant posts are basically flames (especially on the first page), so...

That game was so horribly bad...

Seconded, definitely... when I first heard of it, I actually considered buying it, since my Sonic 1 cartridge is busted... I quickly changed my mind when news of the actual game started to leak out.

Star Fox Command was pretty disappointingly as well, I expected a lot more from it than I got.

I like the vote-changing feature, that's pretty neat...

Though I wonder if the icon could be made more relevant to polls, other than that it seems to work well...

I seem to recall DD saying that he inadvertently used some illegal opcodes or something (I forget the exact terminology, as I'm not a NES expert myself) that worked in the emulators he used, but not on an actual NES.

I've always thought it was kind of odd when people get all concerned about hacks being stolen- I mean, honestly, the whole concept of a hack is based around stealing other peoples intellectual property to fool around with it and maybe create something different, it seems hypocritical to turn around and say BUT NO ONE TAKE MY STUFF KTHX... I mean, unless you dump all your own cartridges held entirely legally, don't use any ripped graphics, and make sure any IPS files sent out contain only your own work and no relocated or other original data, or use games in the public domain, I find it hard to say you have a leg to stand on and argue that the person stealing your stuff is wrong to do so, but you weren't wrong to take Nintendo's game (Though I suppose arguing that both actions are wrong is intellectually consistent, at least )

But I suppose if Omega wants to add it as a feature, that's a whole different thing- I just think the idea of treating hacked data as sacred is kind of silly...

I've never been able to whistle. Which is kind of strange, as pretty much all of my relatives can...

Might as well post these here too, though they're a little out of date (I've fixed the slimes, for example)

What is the underlying game here?

Judging from the filename I'd guess Megaman 2... but I'm not sure, definitely the screens look good though...

Why do they call it "cables" ?
It's only paper or electronic stuff, there is no rope involved...

In Ye Olden Days, to keep diplomatic information secret it was written on parchment and wound tightly to make it look like a rope or cable, lest bandits seize the diplomats' carriage.

Or, more seriously, it's a reference to the fact that such communications are often made over underwater telecommunication lines, which are often called cables...

Alright... I'm severely confused... Why does the board theme randomly turn into the White Hole and back to Minus World (My theme preset)?

Is it something to go with winter, or am I going bat shit insane?

I guess it's part of the "Walking on Thin Ice" thing... sometimes you fall through.

And interestingly, we had underwater cables cross-atlantic since the 19th century or so. See here.

Of course we switched from copper-based cables to fiber-optics at some point, but it sure have a long legacy.

Yep... the switch to fiber optics wasn't that long ago, either. (In relative terms, anyway)

I've never been able to get through FFIV without losing interest...

I haven't beaten OoT either... whenever we rented it back in the day, it always crashed rather near the beginning. I'm not sure what the problem was...

Also, basically anything on Playstation... (for example, FFVII) Thanks to never having one of the PS family of consoles.

That Kid Icarus hack looks good, how much more you have to go until it's finished?

Depends on what you mean by "finished"... 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3 are all completable, though I'm still tweaking things here and there and I haven't started world 3 yet...

The big problem are the fortresses and world 4-1. The editor I'm using (DahrkDaiz's Pit Stop) can't edit those and I can't find any documentation, so I suppose at some point I'll have to break out the hex editor and start trying to decipher the level format...

On the other hand, it might be fair to say that, in a way, people's way of using the internet itself has changed; with the advent of networks like Facebook, not many newcomers actually go out into the jungle of hard-to-understand, idiosyncratic, backwards forum-based communities to mingle anymore. While some places are taking the demographic shift better than others, we certainly are on the worse end of the scale here...

You know, I've never thought of it that way, but I guess you might have a point... I remember back when I started using the internet, idiosyncratic forums were basically the first thing I was drawn to... now, I mean, I was hardly the average person even back then, but still...

The player character's palette on the Kid Icarus screens looks somewhat screwy... pperhaps if you made the outlines a darker shade of blue...?

That's totally unchanged from the original game. It's a side-effect of the fact that I do most of the testing using passwords with a wholly powered up Pit. (Makes things easier if I accidentally make part of a level impossible or something... )

EDIT:
Here's Pit with his normal palette. And 2-3... which is kind of crazy right now. (I dislike the trash can)

(Also, this is proof that the level can be completed without resorting to over-powered passwords )

The religious aspect? That's funny, because it's a Christian adaptation of a Pagan holiday. I would cite proof, but I'm too lazy and can't be assed to search Wikipedia.

My vague understanding is that the Christians wanted to celebrate the birth of Christ, couldn't figure out when that actually had been in the year, so they co-opted the day of a popular pagan feast so as to gain more followers. (and then people came up with new justifications to keep doing what they had been doing)

I'm not sure how you're taking your screenshots, but it might be nice to take them in standard 1x resolution so they're smaller?

But it looks neat... I tried hacking Castlevania once but never got far, it's nice to see people who are more successful than I was.

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Browser: Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13
IM: None
Image editor: Paint Shop Pro 4 and Paint.NET
IRC client: ChatZilla (Firefox plugin)
Text editor: Notepad, WordPad for files whose linebreaks Notepad can't handle
SNES emulator: snes9x 1.41-1, lazy about updating
NES emulator: FCEU 0.93 for most things, have a few debug versions as well
GB/A emulator: VirtualBoyAdvance
SMS/GG emulator: Dega v1.09
Genesis emulator: Gens+ with DebuGens for some things
Music player: Winamp v2.91
Video player: Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player

Why would Winamp be an app for masochists? I've never had any real issue with it, though I've never used the newer versions.

That's a fairly ambitious plan; good luck!

Are you planning to keep the stock graphics?

Well, someone was nice enough to post links to several other Japanese hacks on my blog, so I'll share them here.

Mario vs. Airman and Mario vs. Yellow Devil
Transformers Mario
Elegance, Tetris Mario, Flower Remix, Genyuu, Gokudo Mario, Promotion Mario Bros; Star Remix, and Super Mushroom.

I tried the "Tetris Mario" hack, and early on in 1-1 there's a block wall that prevents any further access. Does anyone know if there is there any way to get around it, or if this is just a really short hack?
