This isn't really a hack idea, but more of a game idea. But I guess you could turn it into a hack idea if you were really skillful.

Pokémon: Cold Ice
Pokémon: Hot Fire

These would be remixes of FireRed and LeafGreen, in which they would be more like the TV show (much like Pokémon Yellow was, only taken further), and they would implement weather and seasonal effects, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

If it is snowing, you can catch ice Pokémon, and if it is summer, you can catch water Pokémon, like Squirtle and Magikarp. And as I said, the game we be a lot more like the TV show. It would have a few more scripted events, and the Pokédex system would be better (much like the new one in Heart Gold and Soul Silver). And the routes would be slightly different, and the Pokémon would be slightly altered in grassy areas, and the trainer battles would be smarter (they would withdraw their Pokémon mid-battle, use more potions on their Pokémon, etc.).

I think this would be a neat idea if Nintendo went and made a game like this.

Dr. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing what you could do with this game, graphically. If you could do to Megaman what you do with Castlevania, that would be interesting to see.

KP9000, your hack looks terrific. The level design and graphics are awesome, and the altered music is a nice touch. I also like the ASM on the title screen. The only thing I didn't care for was that actual title screen itself. The title logo is fine, but the title background with the blocks and that truck just isn't that great. Otherwise, keep up the good work.

I might have to get back into ROM hacking if you guys keep showing off all of this SMB3 stuff.

Why must all of these YouTube videogame walkthroughs have commentary, text bubbles, and stupid opening sequences? I'm sick of those. Can't anybody just post a videogame walkthrough without all that shit?

I want to watch a walkthrough of a videogame I haven't played in years (I don't remember much about the game), and instead of enjoying the level, music, and sound effects, I have to listen to some idiot talk through the whole thing.

And then, before you even get to see the game, sometimes you have to watch a minute or two of a stupid opening sequence.

Here's an idea, Retro, look for "Playthrough" not "Let's Play." That ought to solve a LOT of your problem. Sans that working, don't bitch about it.
I don't search "Let's Play." I'm just saying that there are some videos that are shitty quality, and the ones that are good quality and you really want to watch, the freakin' person has to have commentary through the whole damn thing.

I love your graphics work. How do you do it? I was trying to do some graphics work for SMB3 the other day, but I plain and simply FAIL at it. You have any tips on how to do good pixel art?

You and another board2 member have been chosen to represent Earth in a tournament called Mortal Kombat. Will you be able to fight your way to victory? Or will the evil emperor Shao Kahn steal your soul and finally claim the Earth realm? You decide your fate. Choose your destiny!

Seriously though, how awesome would it be if Midway made another Mortal Kombat in the old-style? Mortal Kombat started to suck as it went to 3D. Using real actors to portray the fighters, and having these unique fatalities is what made Mortal Kombat great. And forget that combo system that was introduced in MK3. It was okay, but nothing beats the simple fighting system that made MK2 what it was.

Sorry to see that you are done with the hack. I was really looking forward to it.

Anyway, although I love the effort you put into the hack, and the new ASM features are really good, I think you went overboard with the Mario stuff. Too much Mario in a Megaman game. Otherwise the hack looked pretty good. The ASM you did so that Megaman could enter pipes was great, but I just think that you used too much from the Mario games.

kuja killer, I bet it is a lot easier working with that CHR-ROM than it is with CHR-RAM. I'm curious as to what you did to create all of those events though. Like, the dialogue at the beginning of the electrical tower? And shooting the cacoon to make the web disappear? And dialogue mid-battle with Boltman? How did you create those events? Did you use existing objects in the game, and just re-code them?

The problem I've often had with ASM hacking, is NOT the ASM hacking itself, but rather, WHAT the code is. I understand ASM and I can code new things, but exactly HOW something should be coded, is something that can be difficult.

It was like the Spin Wheel weapon I coded for MM4. I knew how to code the ASM, but what exactly I was coding was something I needed help with. Does that make sense?

Lets say you know every keyword in a programming language. But someone tells you to code a specific function. I don't know how to code that specific function. If I have a general idea of how to code it, I can code it no problem.

So, Boilerman/Boilman is coming to life, using the design by SpeedRemix.

Nice, can't wait to see a video of it. So, how was your long-needed break from this hack? Seeing all that work you put into it, you needed a break.

I'm interested in Genesis hacking right now. There are 2 games that I want to hack. Mortal Kombat and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Both games are great, and here is what I want to do to them:

Mortal Kombat

Tentative hack title name:

Mortal Kombat: Klassic Extended Edition

- Each character has an extra fatality that is brand new (total of 2 fatalites)
- Reptile is playable with a hidden code
- Reptile has 2 fatalities
- More blood
- You can play the outdoor stages in the opposite daytime if you wish (for example, the pit stage in the daytime, simple palette changes)

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Tentative hack title name:

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - Extra Flavor

This game is very fun and can be addictive, but I think it is too short.

- Add 8 more stages for a total of 20 stages.
- I was surprised that Sonic didn't make a cameo appearance in this game at all. I would like to fix that. You can battle Sonic also.
- Palette changes.
- Possible different scenary changes.
- Another music soundtrack for some of the new stages.

Thanks for the information. When I'm ready and I have a lot more time I will read up on Genesis ASM and see if I can do some things to these games.

Does this level look familiar to anyone?

What Megaman is standing in, is acid. I'm going to implement an ASM hack so that if Megaman falls in it, he gradually loses health. Also, I'm going to implement sprite chains that move, not just the background ones.

I decided to scrap what I previously had, and redo the graphics. Not only does it look better I think, but it is more Megaman-like.
