NO! Please, God, PLEASE, do NOT reinstate those stupid, stupid layouts!
You know, there's a reason that ACMLM is the only board in the history of the internet that gave users the ability to make those things... Yes, I know there's an option to turn them off, but my God, people, how tacky can you get? ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

Honestly, people, there's no reason to watch any show these days that's not Mythbusters.
Seriously. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

Frankly, I'd be most happy to see the board revolve almost entirely around ROM hacking, and I never understood anyone who registered at any incarnation of ACMLM's and didn't visit the hacking sections, but whatever. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

I would also like to add that I always thought the ROM Hacking Releases board was superfluous and stupid -- more confusing then helpful, really. Buuuut that's just one man's opinion. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

I see that someone has already updated Wikipedia's entry to reflect the correct URL for Acmlm's Board.

There was a theme on the old board called "Bright (wtfweb)" that was good because it was pretty much all white and light grays -- pleasant, easy on the eyes. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

Not too bad, although some of the screens look a bit "wooden-block heavy."
The main map layout is good, but as a whole it looks a bit too similar to the original SMB3. Something as simple as changing the palette so that the brown dirt turns into green grass would probably help. Aside from that this looks pretty interesting. Posted by Shiryu Yes, they're used somewhere in Rainbow Resort, either in the stage that starts out with the Sleep and Crash enemies, or in the stage that starts out with the Ball enemies. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

This, of course, is not any actual layout I ever intend to use in a hack, but I've been messing around with the data and trying to see what I could do. The only Nemo hacks so far have been graphics-only, so this is a step towards something a little more interesting, I hope. I've never done anything like this before, and I only managed to get this far with a lot of broad assumptions, guessing, checking, and blind luck. Finding the level data seems simple enough now, but I can't even imagine how to begin finding something like enemy, item, and key placement. But it's an interesting experiment for me, nonetheless. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

I may or may not try to do some kind of tool just to help me out in my own hacking endeavors, but it would have to be a lot of ridiculously-bloated code in something like Visual Basic, since I'm not a programmer.
And yeah, it's more or less the same system as the Mega Man games use (naturally; they're both Capcom games): each level is made up of a series of 32x32 blocks, which are composed of 16x16 blocks, which themselves are made up of four standard 8x8 tiles. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

I think the shadow might work if you made it a bit more subtle. With less contrast, the fact that Mario doesn't cast a shadow might not stand out so much, and it may also help hide the fact that the pipe shadow and the block shadow don't quite match.
Just a thought. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

There are millions of Nintendo DSes across the world, and more being manufactured every day. There is only one SMB2 prototype.
Why would the value of the SMB2 prototype ever go down if nobody else, anywhere, ever had a copy? In fact, wouldn't the reverse be true? It seems to me that everyone arguing against hoarding/collecting didn't have to pay hundreds (or thousands) of dollars to another collector to get the prototype, so of course they're not going to care if the value goes down. What's really funny is that some of the posters here acting as if they're entitled to to this (or any) ROM simply because emulation is a "community" or something. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

So you're saying that, for example, since you could never afford, say, the Mona Lisa, it's worthless?
Of course not. You said you weren't from a well-off family, you don't have a lot of "disposable income," so it's only worthless to you. The fact is, prototypes are worth a lot of money to a lot of people. So you wouldn't buy it because it's out of your price range, or maybe it simply doesn't interest you. Okay, so in that sense, what does your opinion really matter at all? I'm not trying to sound like an asshole here, but seriously, how does your opinion hold any weight on the matter? ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |

I apologize, I didn't realize a third-grade level analogy was considered an insult. Let me break it down a little.
You said the following: "Value drops. But the thing is, I don't care." "I am not from a well-off family. While the value of a dollar is not lost on me, I don't see it as being anywhere near as much as you do." and "And you say all this like I've even played (or hell, downloaded) the rom. I haven't, and I have no desire to." To which I replied, in summary: So considering all that, why do you think others should consider your opnion? The ROM is worth a lot to some other people. Having it leaked devalues their investment. ____________________ andrew sylvester dot com | retrogaming @ robot vaudeville |
