Bluetooth Handset, Futurama Bender's Big Score (I'd probably have to buy this myself, not many people in my family like futurama), a new computer ¬_¬ |

Cygwin's overkill for simple tasks; install MSYS instead
I doubt they'd make any differences, all the programs ask the same API to copy files. (edit: on second thought, I believe there are separate APIs on Windows NT for copying files depending on the subsystem being used (Win32 for all of the above suggestions), they probably translate the subsystem file-copy API to the native (mostly undocumented) API anyhow; if you really want to test the effectiveness of one versus another, install Services for Unix and see if the cp command there (using the Interix subsystem) has similar behavior). |

Posted by Dwedit There's two main ways: 1. Uncompress all ROMs and rebuild the set--this method can take a while. 2. Recompress all ROMs (if needed) so it's one zip file per ROM. This can be quicker as ClrMamePro then only needs to scan the Zip file's header (unless you specify otherwise...) for finding CRC32s (which should be calculated by your Zip program). when scanning, make sure it fixes case, unneeded, and name. |

Just had a craving for old school deathmatch. Anybody up for it?
Requirements: 1. Chocolate Doom v1.0.0; available for many operating systems (pre-compiled version for Windows available on the official site, pre-compiled version for Ubuntu 7.10 here; if you use other Lnux, *BSD, Mac OS X, Solaris, or whatever, you're going to have to compile it yourself). 2. Appropriate IWAD 3. PWADs if any Well if anybody's interest, we should decide on what games to play; there's the plain doom/doom2/tnt/plutonia.wad if you want to do that, or thousands of PWADs for it so... |

Laptop, specifically. This one, more specifically. It's alright (threw away Vista and installed Ubuntu).
comparison: - This processor beats the shit out of the Pentium III 1.4GHz obviously. Old computer was 32-bit, laptop is 64-bit (and I am using a 64-bit OS). Ubuntu boots about 4x faster than the desktop. - 256MB of RAM sucked. 1GB is good. - The desktop has a 250GB disk, but my files still all fit on this 120GB disk with 30GB free... I'll probably buy a bigger disk though. - Desktop has an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 128MB; hard to tell if this Intel X3100 384MB is any better. Seems like Quake III ran smoother on the desktop. - Desktop has an NEC 3550A DVD±RW drive; 48x CD-R, 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD±RW. Laptop has an Optiarc AD-7563A; 24x CD, 6x DVD±R, 4x DVD±RW. It works, but I think I'll replace the drive after being spoiled by faster speeds and custom firmware (I actually had to manually set the drive to region 1 to play most DVD Videos, lol). - Laptop keyboards blow and I want to buy a USB one. - The LCD monitor is only 1280x800. Big disappointment when you're used to 1600x1200. - USB 2.0 is good. Desktop only had USB 1.1 ports. Also there's an SD memory card port (attached to the USB bus), so I can quickly look at the Wii memory card without an external card reader Ubuntu woes on the hardware.... not too many, all fairly minor: - GNOME/KDE will think that you are displaying on TV-out (wtf, there's no s/video port) and the panels will stick to an invisible wall at 1024x768; despite the X server displaying the native 1280x800 and the ability to put windows in the area beyond the 1024x768 zone. # Stuff to append to /etc/X11/xorg.conf to stop this. - Wireless card needs a separate driver manually installed (ethernet works fine, otherwise keep Vista for a bit or use another computer to download it): http://www.datanorth.net/~cuervo/rtl8187b/ - Ubuntu is unable to control the backlight brightness. Full brightness even when unplugged, probably not good for the battery. |

More likely that the extensions refuse to work on versions beyond 2.0.x. Use Nightly Tester Tools to work around it |

It's only for official accessories. Maybe now that Wii homebrew is possible, you'll be able to use more devices with them. |

Someone's layout is making me download "bounce.swf" (it doesn't happen in newreply). One question: WHY? (Flash is horrible and it's even worse that you have it in a layout) |

You need a new sound card that has native support for MIDI.
Which can probably cost a lot. |

I fill in the "number of options field", and there's no indication that I need to do anything else. Click "Submit" and "Error: You need to fill out your poll options" or something like that. |

The idea is simple: What is your preferred method of navigation through your web browser?
I personally tend to favor the right-click context menus, heh. |

heh I forgot to add keyboard shortcuts to the options At least the omnimous "Other" option takes care of it.
Personally I never got used to that "Backspace" shortcut most people seem to use. I'm old fashioned and use Alt-Left/Right |

Ailure: KDE 4 can be installed on Ubuntu with KDE 3 on it simultaneously...
Also you can't reconfigure the panel, wtf. Also I noticed their Solitaire renderer got a facelift, heh. |
