WISE FWOM YOUR GWAVE!

Ok... now that this thread is revived, I'd like to show you guys a few discoveries I've made here. First off, Exhibit A. This thread has a guide to how to rip VC games or anything hosted on Wii Shops server (it's the biggest post in the thread ). (just as a tid bit, it's an Apache server ) Now you have to register to get the PS3 proxy... Fuck that, I'll just host it for you

You see. The wii doesn't download one big .bin file, like we've seen when we place VC games on our SD cards and view them on our computers. Instead it downloads smaller files and puts them together on the wii.

Now that you have set yourself up, I'd like to show you some of my findings.

I have Super Mario Bros.'s Files. This should be interesting to see if you can get the rom out of it.

I have Internet Channel's Files. (warning, this is kinda' big AKA a slight server clogger for me) I'm not sure if you'll get far with this but it'll be neat if you can.

I also have some .bin files I found through the proxy.

They're updates for the news channel and weather channel. There is also a wii message there too. I had already received this message months ago from Nintendo but for some reason, it kept popping up in the proxy. To view these, I suggest you use note pad. The news files are fairly garbled but it's possible to make out an article here or there. The Message should be easily read by all. And as for the weather updates, it's garbled all the way through.

Hope you have fun with this!

Edit: Since some people can't getinto GBAtemp, I'll post the guide here.

How to Install Wii VC Games From Your PC

PC INSTRUCTIONS PART 1
1. Download the "PS3 ProxyServer GUI English" at http://www.ps3news.com/forums/downlo...o=file&id=3673
2. Install (obviously)
3. Find your network connection, right click it, click status, then the support tab, and take note of your computers IP Address and the Default Gateway

WII INSTRUCTIONS
4. Go to Wii System Settings, then to internet, under wii system settings 2, and choose connection settings.
5. Select a new connection, or one you can change.
6. Using wireless, search for an access point.
7. Pick your default point, and let it auto connect.
8. Then go back to that connection you just made and select change settings.
9. Leave the SSID the same, leave security the same
10. On Auto-Obtain IP select no, and then advanced settings.
11. Change your Wii's IP address to 192.168.1.xxx (xxx=any number you will remember) The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the default router is the same as the default gateway from step 3.
12. Then on Auto-Obtain DNS select no, and advanced settings. For Primary DNS insert your default gateway from step 3 and leave secondary DNS blank (all zeros)
13. For Proxy Server Select use and then advanced settings.
14. Insert your computers IP Address from step 3. and make the port 8080, and select no for user name & password.
15. On MTU Value insert 1500
16. Then save and DON'T TEST YET!

PC INSTRUCTIONS PART 2
17. Open up PS3 ProxyServer GUI english (should be located on your hard drive under program files, but not on the start menu)
18. Click the big start button before doing anything
19. For IP address insert your wii's IP address you set in step 11, and leave the port at 8080.
20. Check the Wii box.

WII INSTRUCTIONS PART 2
21. Start the connection test, if all goes well it should connect, decline/cancel the system update.
22. Go to the Wii Store
23. Go to the VC games, and then to games you've purchased.
24. Take note of one of them, then go to the wii home, then to wii storage, then channels, and delete that games channel.
25. Now go back to the VC games that you've downloaded, and pick redownload on the game you just deleted, and confirm until the game is downloaded.

PC INSTUCTIONS PART 3
26. In the PS3 ProxyServer program, click the Logs tab.
27. You will see many address pop up.
28. The addresses you will need will end in tmd, 00000000, 0000001, 0000005, 000006 (only tested with NES, other systems may vary)
29. Once these show up, click each one and save into a folder (ex: Super Mario Bros. VC folder)
30. Once these have downloaded, take the addresses you obtained in step 28 for the downloads and put all of them into the third tab of the proxyserver program. (Do this by clicking add for each address (five in all), then place the website address on the left. Then to the right click that little dot, and direct it to the file that you downloaded via the address on the left on your computer. Do this for all five files.

WII INSTRUCTION PART 3
31. Go and delete whichever game you had just redownloaded, and then go and download it again. Instead of downloading from the net it will download from your computer. This can be verified by looking at the logs on the proxyserver program, and by the speed of the download (almost instant)

I have only tested this with NES games.

I have also found out how to find download links for games you haven't purchased. To do this you must go to the description page of the game. Then in the proxyserver take note of the website that shows up. Then compare it to your other address and you should see a pattern, especially if you redownload two NES games.

I haven't been able to check the checksum from the one on my System to the one on my computer due to my memory card reader on my pc acting up.

Also haven't been able to get any unpaid games to install. I think the TMD file holds the information we need though.

Tanks, that's really cool...

Just wondering.. Does it only work if you download the same game from your PC to the Wii? Or could I "try" and download Zelda 2, and actually download an SMB romhack?

Well... Basically all I've done so far is download the files which are compiled into a VC game onto my PC. If we can find a way to put those things together, we could possibly extract the rom and insert another. The only problem here is, we have no way of getting this to work on the wii yet. The two ways I can think of are these.

A) Finding a way to put these files together and finalize the file. What I mean by finalize is that the wii somehow encodes the file so it can only be played on a specific console. If we can find out how a file is "finalized" we'll be on the right track. By comparing the full file downloaded from the VC to the wii along with the seperate "pre-finalized files" downloaded to the PC, we could possibly be able to figure out. If we can pull that off, I'm pretty sure all one would need to do is place the new "finalized" file onto an SD card and it should work.

B) We find someone who hasn't upgraded the firmware on there console and have them use the wii shop browser trick. We'll have someone host the files for any VC game we choose. The person with the Wii will then attempt to download them to his Wii. If this works, we will have made our first step in this big process. Now if it does work, we should continue by looking into the files and finding the rom, replacing it, and have the guy try again. In theory, this should allow the guy to play a whole different rom via the VC emu.

Now these are only theories and I'm currently siding with "option A" since it will be much more practical since we won't have to all go out and get new wiis. I would like to see option B attempted sometime though.

The reason I have given out these files though is because I have no idea how to look into them. I have gone through with a hex editor but there's nothing special I've seen inside.

Also, Craig, I'm enjoying this Wii shop via Firefox. I'm not sure yet, but I might be able to use this to my advantage at one point.

I might be getting a Wii in the near future, if I do I'll let you know and not update it till we get to play around a bit, you'll have to let me know what to do WHEN I do get it.

Anyways, so I'll let you know when that happens.

That's great! But I think the one thing you will need is the Nintendo Wifi USB dongle thing... then we should be set.

EDIT:

I'm currently comparing the files between SMB and and the pieces on my PC in a hex editor. I'd like to ask anyone in the US who has any NES VC files on their wii to please upload them for me. (I need SMB the most...) I've found something interesting and I might need these files.

I use my GC controller for most of my emulation. For everything I use the traditional WASD keyboard setting and mouse.

Overrated:
*Halo 2: OMGZ TEH GRAFEX (and to all you people who say Halo 1 isn't online so you play Halo 2... no fail... Xbox Connect stupids)
*Gears of War: Again OMGZ TEH GRAFEX
*Most PC games: Must I say it... yes.. I must... OMGZ TEH GRAFEX
*Shadow the Hedgehog: You gave him a fucking gun... so what...
*Sonic CD: I enjoyed it as much as any other classic sonic game. I don't see a need to brand it as the BEST ONE EVER though...

Underrated:
*Double Dragon II: My personal favorite. Good music. Good looking for NES. I also think it has better control too.
*Sonic Heroes: Good gameplay. BAD STORY LINE. (Movie before Metal Overlord battle nearly made me throw up. I quote- "THE TRUE SUPER POWER OF TEAM WORK" not Sonic but his modern clone)
*LoZ-WW: I enjoyed Celda
*Animal Crossing: I remember so many people hating this game and giving it horrible reviews. But it's actually quite a fun sim (if you call it a sim <<)
*FF VII: So what if people worship it as a god... it's still not that bad of a game...

Wait, is it possible to download a channel game from a site, then put it on the SD card and it'll play?

Sorry if it sounds like a lame question.

not yet ... that's about all I can say...

I love all the classic sonic games on the same level but I must say Sonic 2 higher than most. You guys might bitch about me loving my Sonic 2 but it's not because of anything the game has to offer. It's more like... I have a "childish" feeling whenever I play it. It's like I revisit myself at 5. Sonic 2 has a very special place in my heart.

When I first got into the emu scene, I downloaded the Sonic 2 beta rom and I felt like my body was melting into goo ... and you can't believe how I felt when I got the DRX beta. My God... that moment was amazing. I also was quite overjoyed when I got the Sonic CD betas too but as I said, I have a special place in my heart for Sonic 2 .

Sonic 2 Genesis- Best sonic game EVER, but still, it's overrated. I mean so much was added and the music was awesome, but still, sonic 3 doesn't get any attention because it's the middle child of the genesis (sonic 1 already left home and moved)

Seriously... you've got it all wrong... S3&K has always been the skyscraper shadowing Sonic 2... and just to let you know... I'm not angry. Just confused about how you could have gotten this wrong =/

but thats only my opinion

NO.... Even Sonic 3 takes the cake ... Go to any sonic site. You'll see that they worship it... even without the lock on...

What exactly was that "hacking" looking like anyway? Did he log to them, change profile settings, or...?

SuperLuigi64 was hit. He attempted to log in but he couldn't. He then checked his profile to see that what was in it was "I LIKE MEN"... So he's basically using a rereg now ...
