Wow, sweet progress man! The only suggestion I can come up with is to change the font to the CV3 one. Keep doing your thing...

I like the idea of using that font. Here's what it looks like. Plus here I am trying a few other things out.

Much better elbobelo, if you want try to see how Ritcher looks in the game. Or if not, make a Simon Belmont face in that corner, either way this'll be a cool hack.

Well, I'm not sure about who the character will be, but whether it's Trevor(CV3) or Simon, I will have an accurate face.

or maybe no face at all, I'm thinking about doing a whip indicator. I also move the magic meter to the right side... what do you think? better?

Here is a hack of LittleMagic

Take these steps in the menu to enter the fighting portion.

I may never complete this from the shear amount of work it required.
Besides the game doesn't have a lot of depth playing it like this, but still enjoyable. My next character was going to be Wizards and Warriors Kuros

Included is a Document of little magic, the ips patch, and a graphics file that you can open in tile layer pro. This is so anyone willing to finish it can use this info. I know a lot of people think I should work on my own projects, but since this would have never been finished, I figure this is better than nothing.

you really should continue. It's a shame to release something that looks so epic.

This game was making my head explode.

And personally i don't think the combat is up to the quality I'd want, so theres not a huge pay-off for having an exploded head.

If I were to continue, I'd try to find a way to have a separate graphics scheme for each player, instead of Link, Orphius, and Athena sharing a scheme. I'd make the player playable for both teams. I'd also cut out the entire strategy portion of the game, and build a storyline using the fighting portion.

>*explode*<

....ouch

I'd imagine, different more Castlevania sounding sound effects are going to exist for different weapons and whips.

Yes I'm just putting in placeholders for the time being. I haven't tried to make new sound effects yet, but I do plan on changing them at some point. For now I play the game muted so I don't get sick of the songs so I tend to forget what sounds it plays.

Posted by optomon
Not sure how far this game is going to go. Is this game going to be more linear or will you still have a stage selection screen?

I plan on changing the stage select screen to a Warp Map screen that you access by reaching teleport rooms, much like the newer Castlevanias. If I can I want to combine all the levels into one big castle where you will need different power-ups to explore different areas.

Right now I am trying to figure out how to change rooms by walking off screen to the left and right. For now it's just up and down.

Yeah those changed once I gave the sub-weapons their colors, and once I gave the holy water flame its red color. Of course the palettes will match better once I change the enemies around to Castlevania enemies and custom enemies.

Thanks for the feedback Googie!

Other than that, sweet job. ^______^'

I saw the palette changes on the enemies, here's another one I found...

I haven't done any work on the enemies, but I do plan on changing the enemies graphics and behaviors to match Castlevania games. If you want to fix these palettes by all means do so, but you would have to use yychr and perform color swaps to the graphics of the enemies.

Posted by Googie

And the score is blank during those short demonstrations, it's no sweat though.

Oh...... should've known

Posted by Googie

EDIT: I found the title screen palette data, it's located at offset 0001a760. The color of the 8 Eyes words share palettes where you put the snake and the fonts, which is 20-26-19. If anything I'll look into it more tonight.

Cool! good to know, once the game completely changes from 8-eyes this whole title screen will change, and the game will be given a new name. Right now it is still essentially 8-eyes with Simon.

I am still debating on whether or not I will release demos once I start changing the levels and enemies. This may just drop out of site for months and re-emerge as a completely new and original game.

I'm going for a more retro approach to the graphics, ripping from Vampire Killer.

I was playing Portrait of Ruin as the hidden character Old Axe Armor and thought this might be a good addition to my Castlevania Hack. It will go in as a familiar which you will always carry once obtaining it, as opposed to a sub-weapon that you can only have 1 of.

Do you know any other NES hack with such extensive music editing (especially original music)?

This is a list of everything with sound changes in ROMhacking.net's database.

Note that a lot of them are crap, like anything Jomb has done. I notice Zelda Challenge is on there, which only has like one byte changed to alter the waveform in the title screen's song.

Some I can think of off the top of my head that are worth checking out:

Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries

Dragoon X Omega (Shitty, but hey, I think I was like the second person to even hack an NES game's music at that point).

Dragoon X Omega II: You've already heard this, basically.

Mario Fantasy Adventure

My Nuts & Milk hack called Donkey Kong 2 has the music hacked in the game with entire song changes. They are not original songs but they are composed from tabs. Also in the DOCs there are other songs you can plug in to the music section such as a Jackson 5 song and .... I forget but it's there.
Just FYI.

Edit 2: My first video! Yay! It just shows a minor change in my hack. You can cast magic as much as you want without having to push pause!

That's really great!! It would be nice to have your menu system and magic system in the original (un-edited) version of the game.

Any thought to releasing just a menu patch.

Ever want to play Wai Wai World without that awful scrolling?

Here's how to fix it.

Change 1d7f3 (Right Scrolling position) from C0 to 80
Change 1d826 (Left Scrolling position) from 40 to 80

There you go.

If you're going to do an NES racing game, good luck with that.

I somehow believe I can pull it off. Using the right game.

You're right about RC PRO-AM II being a much better choice, and I would've hacked that game if it wasn't for one major problem.

RC-PRO AM II has compressed graphics and I have no idea what-so-ever how to decompress them.

If anybody knows how to do this, and would like to see a much more in depth Mario Kart, let me know how.

note: one thing I tried was using Nesticle to edit the graphics for RCPRO-AMII and found I could edit everything but the Cars.

Sweet. I am looking forward to playing this one. I always thought that 8 eyes had potential. The idea of the bird as a companion was very inventive. Good job guys.

Yes the bird companion is what drew me to hacking this game. It's perfect for making a Castlevania game using familiars, rather than trying to hack familiars into an existing Castlevania game.

Posted by XTTX

this is looking really good elbobolo, i like it alot. Please keep us updated man.

Thank you, I hit a slump where the game was glitchy due to some bad code, so i stopped working on it for a bit. Since then I fixed the glitch and it is working fine again.

I also have working a random item generator with some items or weapons appearing less often than others. The game will be full of randomness and rarities as well as some designed Item collecting.

Another update won't be for a while sorry to say.
