Until 31/3/07 three term papers need to be done.
What concerns important work like this, I'm kinda ... paranoid. So I save quite often (not every two hours or something similar) and I often send copies of it to myself, move another copy to my MP3-player, regardless of the state (if certain parts are not done yet etc.). The good thing is: If my computer crashes and/or all material/sources/papers are lost, I have the backup at least. So in the worst case scenario there is still the possibility to go to university, hook up my player on a computer and finish the word in a couple or hours. Games and music are on CD Though never a drive failed for me. I still have an old 6,4 GB hard drive from IBM lying around, which still works, if put into a machine. |

After testing the game (guest pass), here is my review.
My summary, first come the good things: - Neat graphics, at least. Although I never liked that style, I have to admit the map and objects are pretty neat drawn. It doesn'T require too much hardware power, just at least 1 or even more GB of RAM - The beginning for new people is made up a lot better than in Guild Wars for example - The basic idea of those missions with five or even forty people together - theoretically this sounds very interesting The other side: - Change. Really, I know you cannot create a type of single-player RPG for multiplayer (or is it possible?), the only things to do are to kill x monsters, collect y items and accquire new equipment - Paying for support is okay, don't expect support and quality for nothing. But, what happens after you cancel your account ? An offline game at least holds you some save files and you can return to the world whenever you want - The community. Really, those "omfg, rofl, lolz"-people suck. Of course this doesn't include all players, but the people I encountered seemed to be ... very immature - How can you do certain quests which require several hours of gameplay to kill certain enemies, if you have a life, friends and go to work/university/whatever ? Do you really would have to sacrifice anything to see the high-level content or is it possible to get the best stuff with no 24/7 gaming ? - I lost a good friend to WoW, so that also influences my opinion. I cannot deny that (concerns generally any MMORPG) - It simply gets boring after a short amount of time. I uninstalled RO after level 15 and the first four days of test play and WoW after level 7. So: World of Warcraft sucks for me This is even good. So there will be (at least now) no opportunity to buy the game and lose friends, time or whatever and investing the time to play the game or any MMORPG only. So I even got Guild Wars and tested several other MMORPGs (also exotic ones like Xenepic, Talesweaver), but none was too interesting to me past the first few levels. Simply too dull. People might say I have not seen any "good" thing yet at only level 7, as others say the game begins once you max out your character's level, but this isn't too interesting for me first having the need to go to max level and THEN getting the real "fun". |

Only one real "rare" game (compared to many other people), but I am very proud of having it!
Very low quality, due to crappy cell phone camera (and no digital one): Rudra's Secret Treasure! I'd like to have the TGM3: TI cabinet (or even the ROM for MAME some day; though my machine won't be able to meet the probably very beefy requirements for emulating Taito's Type-X hardware), but since I neither live in Japan nor have the money/way to import one, this won't be the way. But ... surviving Shirase mode for more than a mere few seconds might be more than impossible for me anyway |

Sonicand Guild Wars doesn't have additional costs, since levels only go to 20 (only have the original Prophecies (?) version so far), but you cannot interact with people outside of towns and the environments often are extremely dull, at least in the original game. I just don't see the point in acquiring the best equipment to have, when Blizzard decides to bring out the expansion (what usually is a good thing, since you don't want to play all the same instances, quests and such for eternity - even the biggest game has limits), then the level cap is raised and some new even more powerful items make your hard-farmed stuff much less worth - and the cycle begins again with every expansion. Well, I don't know how this "problem" was solved in older MMORPGs like Lineage I & II. And ... how did RO handle that - where there any expansions out for that oO ? Just my opinion. I don't say, WoW is generally a bad game, I just don't like it apart the graphics and interface - while it sounds more than interesting when you read about it. As for the time factor, I won't argue anything against you, since I cannot and I won't judge about that, S&F. |

As for TGM1, Hiryuu, load it with Zinc. It uses up less resources and fixes the annoying sound problem in TGM1 with MAME, where that siren (when you stack up your blocks too high) doesn't turn off after clearing the situation - heh, you need to reset the game to make it going away ).
TGM2+ eats up a lot of RAM (as MAME does anyway), but I think it doesn't require too much CPU power. I usually don't like Tetris at all ... but the TGM series is ... that nicely tweaked, the speed and rotation/landing systems are that great ... Don't make it past S1 grade in TGM1 and TGM2 I got to rank 2 and maybe level 623 once (20G mode starts in both games at 500). But usually I already die at level 300-450 in TGM2+. |

I never got into classic Tetris really, although I adore Arika's Tetris The Grandmaster series.
This also might be the fact the randomizer is pure evil sometimes in the original version. If it gives you too much Z and O shaped blocks, it is pretty hard to find a way to stack properly unless you are an expert at higher levels. TGM just features so many improvements in gameplay ... the original challenge in GB Tetris at level 20 was not the speed, but control. Ever tried to place a block on level 20 properly - since the next block immediately spawns after your current piece dropped (and locked instantly) ? These advantages are in TGM, but on the other side the speed level is just insane later; after a certain point there are infinite falling rates, not to mention the Shirase Mode in TGM3, which might require far more than a few coins to master For multiplayer there are better alternatives out there, like Super Tetris 3 and/or the Bombliss version. |

Close Firefox, then go to
Start -> Run -> "X:\< The Profile Manager pops up, and you should try browsing the page with this new "naked" profile". Reinstalling alone doesn't help, since Firefox stores all cookies, the temp folder etc. in your profile folder by default (doesn't get removed after uninstalling FF automatically). If you can copy and paste without problems again, then add any extension one by one, until you find the one, which causes the problem. |

This might not be something related to ROM hacking actually, but I'm interested getting an answer in this question (this also might be a "noob"-question for me as a non ROM hacker actually, for you experts ...).
As for reading different documents about glitches in SNES games, I stumbled across a "maximum amount an accumulator can hold", which is 65535. Well, this number is very popular (usually zero is counted in, which makes 65536, which is an important classic exponentation (1^2, 2^2 and so on ...). This also might explain, why in RPGs enemies don't have more than 65535 HP; actually Zeromus in FF IV is an exception, but his HP gets refilled in battle once - unknown for the player. My question is about things like score in many games (Super Mario World for example), which usually goes into much higher instances. Have higher values than 65535, like the mentioned example of high scores like in any arcade type game "replacements" for going after that magic 655535-border ? Like each numeral of score is calculated individually, so a score of 1.000.000 actually is not really 1.000.000 in variables, but more or less a string of single (or more-digit) numerals - and just presented as a single number on-screen for the player ? It is dumb to describe, I just would like to know if the SNES technically can handle variables or values higher than 65535 (and thus scores bigger than that are "real" score values) or is there a trick to make bigger values usable. Since Zeromus has not about 130000 HP, but gets his life refilled once (mentioned on several sources, don't want to search for a link now), at least this might be an argument for my assumption, 65535 is somehow a border. Also, if you manage to do more damage than that number, it causes an overflow, resets to zero and actually does very low damage (normally truncated to 9999). Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for your replies. This reminds me about Locomotive Basic 1.0 (very old language, used in Schneider CPC464 I owned a long time; home computer), where maximum variable values could range only between 32767 and -32768.
It's actually interesting how these technical limits didn't prove any problem at all for the programmers early on ... Otherwise it still is impressive; like in SMRPG, the maximum HP was 255 originally (like they could have tweaked the number to something even like 300 or such, but I don't care and even find these numbers more "nostalgic" ). These limits also might explain the question, why in certain older jump and runs the hero reaches the bottom screen, once he "overjumps" a certain height (if I'm not wrong) ? Maybe the virtual y axis for positioning and moving sprites begins at a certain (usually way higher value than the actual visible max height in-game) point and reaches zero at the bottom. Think about Metroid for example. If you go into the room with the evelator leading to Norfair, you can jump on that weird enemy statue things; by repeatedly bombing and jumping you end up at the bottom on the screen |

Posted by Sonicandfails Plus the Tetris The Grandmaster series from Arika. Although mastering Shirase Mode requires god-like reaction skills. Tengen Tetris for NES also is also a very nice game. But there's also Tetris The Grandmaster Ace out for the 360 - anyone played that yet ? Hopefully it is much similar to TGM3, although I have no newer console at home ... |

The sprite left is an avatar I used for years - and a combination of "player-gives-magic-command" - casting pose itself - winning pose; its extreme simplicity rocks and I like the animation it makes. Using a smooth filter might remove the "pixelized" look from it (since it's originally size is two vertical 16x16 tiles - tiny); but I like that touch. The name of the sprite is ... *points to username* |

Posted by NeedlePosted by Dejiko So there is no way other than to It seems like Arika wants to make its series arcade exclusive only. Sadly it uses its own name to market that thing. If it had not the name "Grandmaster", it might have been nice; but people who expect at least a somehow "TGM2+" port on console (yes, there are ROMs for MAME, but obtaining this legitimatelly other than importing a cabinet might be a really nice thing at first glance for the player), might be disappointed after your description. Think about the next Mario game by Nintendo without Mario in it |

I don't have too much extensions installed either, but I really adore the mouse gestures extension, epecially the one by the Optimoz team. Cannot think to use Firefox without them since Firebird 0.9- and although Opera introduced them first, and usually being a usually nice browser, I rather use Firefox.
As for the popular extension AdBlock (Plus): I don't have it anymore installed, since this seems to slow down my Firefox significantly. It still has a reasonable speed, but without Adblock it seems way faster for me. Don't get me wrong, some advertisements are really more than annoying, especially in flash (or even those, which come with sound), but due to the sites I visit I rarely get pages with a crapload of them. Another great extension is DownThemAll, which helps you to download many files at once. |

Posted by Xkeeper Same here Loved Valkyrie Profile 1, still didn't achieve the A ending yet. And it is good you can skip the Soul Crush scenes in VP2; in VP1 you'll have to watch zillions of Nibelung Valestis (yes, you don't need to use the PWS attacks, but the tougher bosses - as in the Seraphic Gate - require this). But on the other hand it is fun to whoop Iseria's ass with four Angel Slayers |

Many songs from the band Machinae Supremacy (in particular "Soundtrack To The Rebellion", "Through The Looking Glass" (!) and "Origin").
Records ? I know I didn't take the songs off my MP3 player too soon, as it holds 256 MB only anyway, which is quite impressive for me ... Don'T know, where this is stored or even if my old Winamp 2.91 has a feature like that. |

Artist:Wintersun
Album: Wintersun (2004) Currently running, "Battle Against The Time" Simply excellent. Melodic death metal, inspired with folk elements. Usually I don't like these folk metal bands at all, but in this case it isn't too distracting or I have trouble isolating the folk elements while enjoying these terrific tracks. The vocalist does a great job, the drummer is about to kill his working material (in Winter Madness, Starchild and Battle Against The Time) with a pretty high speed, while being intense. Overall not bad at all: Suitable for headbanging. |

I got through the demo; this is one of the best hacks/demos so far.
This is another example that eye candy (ExGFX) and ASM are not required to make a hack looking "good". As for the difficulty level, it wasn't too challenging, but I noticed an increase in difficulty while progessing; like less save points (although you can always clear a ghost house to save your game). These 3 up moons are no issue to me, since these could be compared to some kind of "DK Coin" for every level (that might be great idea: Sacrificing the 3 UP moon by something else, coding in flags to make them not appear once collected - and adding a branch which allows to start a specific event, like unlocking a secret world; as for Joshua's idea mentioned in a post above). In uber-hard hacks it is more than annoying to travel back for collecting lives if you cannot beat the ghost house, before turning off, and taking time to get even a single life in an earlier level. At least for me. I still need to find three secret exits in world 3, but until now I have to admit, some of the secret exits are hidden pretty well. They are not too hard to acquire, as in terms of difficulty, but some of them ... are really only visible if you search the entire level. The ghost houses are always fun - p switch madness, falling until you acquire ... eh, no spoilers. It is very fun - I'm looking forward to the next demo ... and that ominious world six, where I have unlocked two stars into it |

I want an Angel Slayer, which boosts attack by twenty thousand points.
(Dunno if it exists in VP2 too ) |
