Wow this thread really blew up.

I'm pretty sure none of you even read any text and just looked at the screens, or you'd notice he put effort into changing things, maybe if you all weren't cockfucks and instead of flaming him you explained to him "Eat my shit on a brick looks pretty fucking stupid" instead of "CRAP HACK GO DIE PLZ FAG!!!!" he might have changed them. Instead you possibly scared away someone who was actually willing to do something and learn.

Really great way to encourage more people to pick up hacking.

The only filter I ever use is NTSC filters.



maybe 25%scanlines + a generic filter (interpolation, whatever).

usually nothing, though. Filters 90% of the time ruin games.

FF should've used 16x16 battle sprites, they are so cute

I'm too lazy to actually do a hack so I just make random GFX for failed projects anymore, actually putting things together inside of a rom is just too much work.

Now if this was a "Post your Quicklaunch Bar" thread, then a few years ago, mine would be several screens large. I decided to put basically every program from the start menu I might use into the quicklaunch bar. (still sized the bar small so only 8 icons are visible, it's the >> chevron where all the action is at!)


I used to do that, eventually I organized my quicklaunch bar by putting programs into folders because nothing fit on there, which seemed to work better =P

you're doing it wrong.

When people go out of their way to critique you're artwork its not because they hate you its because it sucks and they're telling you exactly what you can do to make it better. Making excuses is telling them you don't really give a shit what they think. "I did it in my own style" is probably the most overused excuse I've ever heard.

lighting: its mostly consistent this time except for the tears, and the hair. everything else seems lit from the top-left, but his left (our right) side of the face has tears highlighted from the other side, and the hair seems like just a gradient.

I can see how this might have happened seeing as how all the official art isn't exactly awesome, but you're not bound by those rules. Perhaps you should have the hair colors follow the protrusions at the top, even if the original art isn't exactly like that it'll give the idea that they're different strands/bushels of hair and are each colored differently. Another thing with the hair is it doesn't seem to come foward at all, like a mohawk would; it seems like a fan behind the head more than hair, it should follow the angle of his face accordingly (the pink section should be roughly between his eyes.)

You've also got some bad inconsistencies with the line weight, and it just doesn't look good. If you're going to have outlines at least make them all similar, I can understand some interior lines being thinner, but other than the mouth, the nose, the toes, tears, and the eyelids, it looks tacky.
