An update.

Auctioned Tarbosaurus Yet to be Determined
by Brian Switek

The auctioned Tarbosaurus skeleton. Image via Heritage Auctions.

What will become of the auctioned Tarbosaurus skeleton? Paleontologists have been wondering about the illicit dinosaur’s fate ever since it was sold for more than a million dollars late last month. Even though the dinosaur was probably illegally collected from Mongolia, Heritage Auctions officials snarled at their critics and decided to go ahead with the auction anyway. And even though a last-minute restraining order halted the dinosaur’s immediate transfer to an unknown buyer, no one knew what was going to happen next.

For now, at least, the controversial tyrannosaur specimen isn’t going anywhere. Robert Painter, the lawyer who obtained the restraining order against the dinosaur’s sale, has issued a press release stating that the dinosaur is now being examined to determine its origin. “In addition to agreeing to the inspection,” the release says, “Heritage Auctions has, with full permission from its consignor, promptly disclosed to the attorney for the Mongolian President all of the available information related to provenance, chain of custody, shipping manifests and import/export.”

That doesn’t mean the Tarbosaurus is safe. Even if the dinosaur was illegally collected, it may have been legally imported to the United States and still eligible for sale. The mostly complete tyrannosaur could still disappear into someone’s private collection. Even though the dinosaur is part of Mongolia’s prehistoric heritage and should go home to its country of origin, the ultimate fate of this Tarbosaurus has yet to be determined. I haven’t heard any updates about a Tarbosaurus leg that was pulled from auction at Christie’s pending a similar investigation into its provenance.

This isn’t just about the legality of selling dinosaurs. It’s about what happens to a country’s natural history. Too often, significant specimens disappear into private collections where they are rendered effectively useless to scientists. This also cheats the public. It’s true that only a fraction of dinosaurs ever collected go up on display, but paleontologists require a large sample of dinosaurs to investigate anatomy, variation, evolution and other biological information preserved in dinosaur skeletons. Those findings filter through to exhibits, books, documentaries and even Hollywood films. Indeed, while members of the public may not get to see every dinosaur up close and personal, public museums keep those remains in the public trust and draw from those specimens to flesh out the world of the dinosaurs. In a private collection, a dinosaur is robbed of its scientific context and becomes just a decorative prop for the affluent. If you’ve got money to burn, buy a skeletal cast—they are cheaper and easier to mount.

Paleontologist Victoria Arbour also contemplated the strange distrust of paleontologists that cropped up in this controversy. On her blog Pseudoplocephalus, she wrote:

The role of museums is to conserve artifacts for the long haul—not just a few years, not just this generation, but theoretically for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years. Museums also facilitate scientific research (thus contributing new knowledge to society), and education (passing new and old knowledge to members of society). … Because these are publicly-supported institutions, their role is to conserve cultural and natural history artifacts for the people, and so the whole concept of fossils being locked away from the public in museums is largely incorrect.

Indeed, if museums put everything they had out on public display, visitors would probably complain about all the bone fragments, mammal teeth and pieces of turtle shell. Even if museums pick and choose what they display, the science that comes out of their collections influences the public presentation of paleontology. That’s why I hope the Tarbosaurus is saved for science. Every dinosaur contains stories about its life and evolution in its skeleton, and sending the Tarbosaurus back to Mongolia would be a first step in allowing paleontologists to draw out those prehistoric tales.

If you have this thread, I mgiht be able to help you.
Is this supposed to be english?

ninjablooper, you need to tell us what motherboard you have, as well as what power supply. GPUs use lots of power, so if your current PSU is inadequate, bad things could happen.

CPU and RAM might also be a concern for bottlenecking.

Are you bored? Looking for something different to do? Maybe a new game to play?

Perhaps you should consider playing Ragnarok Online! Not just any RO server though, you should come check out Karma-RO.

We are running a new low rate server (15x Base and Job EXP, 10x Drops, 1x MVP cards, MVP cards banned from Battlegrounds and WoE). We have been up and running solid for 2 weeks and are have positive reviews on Ratemyserver. We aren't like other low rates though which just run boring vanilla content. we've implemented a new mission zone that rewards you for exploring Rune-Midgarts and its surrounding kingdoms, encouraging you to fight a diversity of different monsters rather than just killing the ones which grant the highest EXP for that patch or whatever. Players who complete missions receive bonus EXP for turning them in as well as Mission Points which can be traded in. We also have an in-progress system for battling Bosses which will be similar to more recent MMOs (think instanced battles that encourage party participation), rather than the vanilla experience provided on most private servers.

The mission zone has roughly 70 missions as the time of writing this.
We are the process of adding new mission sets each week, so that content will not be stagnant.

Posting some screen shots... (if you click on the picture, there's a link to the full album with 13 screenshots, just picked some choice ones here)

We have also implemented member accounts which allow users to keep multiple in-game accounts under a single ID. This has several helpful features including shared Kafra Points between all characters as well as a central storage which is shared by all of your characters! No more annoying drop-trading or having to multiclient just to share 1 item!

For players who prefer smashing skulls to killing monsters, we also have a fully functional Battlegrounds with Conquest mode that includes a custom Battle Badges shop that lets BG-ing players rent custom gears rather than farm for them.

With Conquest mode, players can practice for WoE2 playing in daily constant skirmishes that focus on group organization and fast paced action to achieve the battle goals.

We have split off the WoE/BG characters from LR characters in order to allow people to have fun how they choose to play while still being on the same server and not being separated from their friends. You can trade gears to BG characters from your LR account (But not vice versa for BG rental equipment in order to prevent players from giving endgame gear out to their newbie LR chars).

We do not have Harmony or Gameguard, but have our own internal system for blocking WPE and other packet-abusing and hacking programs, which we have fully tested as working against the current versions of all popular hacks. The pro's of this are that we don't have the horrible lag most other servers force on their players due to the ineptitude of their GM staff in using Harmony in the first place.

We are working on adding new content each day, Guild transfer packages are coming for people who can bring groups of 10 or more.

We are an RCX friendly server and fully support it.
Feel free to come and join us! We are up and running and growing every day. :-)

Our website is at http://www.karma-ro.com. Information on how to Download and Register Accounts can be found on our forums. Our IRC channel is on irc.darkmyst.org #karmaro. Feel free to stop by if you want to chat or have any questions.

What Haz stated is mostly fact and not opinions. Most of the material which makes up the Old Testament literally interpreted by many evangelicals was originally treated by most jews as metaphorical stories to teach lessons or provide hope.

Despite that most evangelical versions of the Bible will try to tell you that Malachi through Matthew = the silent years, it is likely that many of the books which are ordered before Malachi (ex. Esther, Daniel) were actually afterwards and intended as allegorical tales to inspire jewish revolutionaries :-(

This would explain the numerous conflicts between our known historical record of the persian and babylonian empires versus their description in Daniel.

"Being a christian or whatever similiar to it is not easy. "

It's so hard that 78% of all Americans identify themselves as members of the Christian faith.

I don't see the point of your question regarding the KJV and how it relates to what I brought up. I believe this is tangential and am therefore ignoring it.

What are the straight facts relating to the old and new testament that you can relate to and feel? How do you feel facts?

Why do you think all churches hold that view? Are you not aware that many Christian sects do not regard baptism as prerequisite to salvation?

Would this mean that if for some reason people were born in a place where a water baptism is not possible that they could never be Christians?

What would happen to those people?

What would happen to those people?

Really I cannot answer for them or you so its not my call to answer you, but I don't think god will let you into heaven when you die and meet him.
Have a close look at mark and be the judge yourself.

When someone asks you a question, they are asking you what you think.

So to be clear, you believe that if someone does not engage in a singular ritual regardless of the total sum of anything else they do in their life, they are denied the everlasting eternity in heaven that you believe you yourself will receive simply for having done it?

You say it's not 'your call to answer', but we're talking about the difference between people being damned to hell or going to paradise in your view. How can you be so flippantly casual?

Sorry nick, but I refuse to answer you, I don't know what kind of answer you want out of me, but I cannot answer you on the matter.

I don't speak for everyone on religion, if I did it would be pretty chaotic just like with anyone else speaking on religion topics.

Thats why I said in this topic I don't care much to talk about it, and in the end, stuff always turns ugly in the end.

If you want a real answer, seek it from a very good credible church or someone you trust who can make sense of the bible facts to you.

He doesn't want you to speak for everyone, he just wants your own personal opinion on the matter.
Once again: he does not want to turn to a church, a pastor, a nun, a rabbi, an imam, or any random person on the street; he is simply asking your own view on the matter.

Yes nick, let how jesus does it when he was baptised:

What is baptism? Baptism is the washing with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. It signifies and seals our ingrafting into Christ and partaking of the benefits of the covenant of Grace and our engagement to be His.

Quite simply, Jesus was baptized so he could enter into the Melchizedek priesthood so He could be the High Priest and offer Himself as a sacrifice for our sins.

In Matthew 3:13-15 it says, "Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, iI need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?' Jesus replied, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.'" Jesus got baptized to fulfill all righteousness.

Exodus 29:1-7, "This is what you are to do to consecrate them, so they may serve me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without defect. And from fine wheat flour, without yeast, make bread, and cakes mixed with oil, and wafers spread with oil. Put them in a basket and present them in it -- along with the bull and the two rams. Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. Take the garments and dress Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself and the breast piece. Fasten the ephod on him by its skillfully woven waistband. Put the turban on his head and attach the sacred diadem to the turban. Take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head."

Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit: "But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth...As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit -- just as it has taught you, remain in him," (1 John 2:20,27).

The Holy Spirit descended from heaven as a dove and rested upon Jesus (Matt. 3:16).

Jesus was baptized because He had to fulfill the legal requirements for entering into the priesthood. He was priest after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4; Heb. 5:8-10; 6:20). Priests offered sacrifice to God on behalf of the people. Jesus became a sacrifice for our sin (1 Pet. 2:24; 2 Cor. 5:21) in His role as priest.

If anyone calls themselves a christian and does not get baptised...
You can't get into heaven without it, if god asks for it and he sent his son jesus to do it, what makes us think we are exempt from it ?

So your feeling is that anyone who is not baptized, even if they profess to be a christian and follow all of your rules in accordance and believe in jesus as their savior but do not complete this one ritual, god will send them to hell?

I guess I have to go back to also my previous question(s):
Would this mean that if for some reason people were born in a place where a water baptism is not possible that they could never be Christians?

What would happen to those people?

A water baptism, I know exactly what your talking with this.
Nick, lets turn this around why do you think I would know what your asking ?
Do you somehow I think I have authority on what people should do or not ?
Also whats your religion nick and what do you believe on the matter ?

I tried to give you a answer, I tried to show you some real facts right from a bible.
Pretty much from this point, I want no part of this conversation with you again.

"simply put I don't hold the answers that your seeking"
Thats as honest as I can get with you on this thread, but you don't seem to be getting that.

I'm asking for your opinion. Why do you not want this conversation?

Do you not care about what happens to other people?

By saying 'thats as honest as I can get with you' does that mean you could be more honest but are intentionally holding back? Do you just not care about what would happen to these (metaphorical) people in my question?
