For real, I'd say the real thing. If I had a proper controller to hook up for my computer though...

Let's face it. There is no good way of setting up shoulder buttons onto a keyboard that is convenient.

Still awkward as hell since you need to take your finger off of a face button to reach for a shoulder button.

For the record I use:
B = S, A = D, X = A, Y = W, L = Q, E = R, Start = Enter, Select = Right Shift
D-pad is arrow keys.

Also, ~ = Fast forward, Tab = Rewind, 1 = Save State, 2 = Load State, 3 = Change State Slot

And occasionally, but not often:
Turbo B = Z, Turbo A = X

@Zbyte: I like how your world map starts on the right and goes left instead of the traditional SMB3 way, but I think it looks a tad bit too linear. I'm sure the same could be said of my maps, though, so I can't really call the kettle black here, but I do encourage you to mix it up a little more. :3 Also, is that second fortress near the end castle linked to any locks or bridges?
I'm not sure what you mean by "too linear" here. The path isn't crooked enough? Well, a map is what I do best. Thanks for your comments.

I think what he means is that there isn't any choice of what levels you have to clear; once you beat level 1 you have to go onto level 2, as opposed to the original game which often gave you the option to clear either level 3 or 4, for example.

I knew that. But it still leaves one BG layer more than SMW or SMAMB3 had.

They had 3 layers at their disposal. Granted, SMW uses layer 3 for it's status bar so you can't go above it at all, but SMASMB3 just uses windowing and layer 2 for it's status bar, iirc.

Edit: Er, now I feel dumb. I guess your point was that the layer could still be used somehow, just like I described for SMW and SMASMB3.

/me self facepalm

I never really liked the idea of having symbols over tiles to show their purpose, like exit-enabled pipes and the white block, but I'm probably just spoiled by Lunar Magic's mouse-over tooltips for everything in the entire game. I won't expect you to do that, mostly because writing tooltips for everything would be a massive pain, especially if it isn't object based anymore, and the user can rearrange the tiles to his liking in the selector.

Perhaps something to toggle those on and off, too?

I see you're ignoring the bottom tile row of the level as well.

Unless that's just a ZSNES bug or something.

ZSNES bug.
I should really switch to snes9x or bsnes but I've been lazy.

Oh yeah, I've got another screenshot.

I didn't make the custom block but I made the upsized SMW graphics.

Apparently he had two instances of the game open; he did the area a million times in the normal window, and then did it on impossible once he had it down perfectly.

I got to mecha birdo, but then quit. I don't think my system was good enough to actually spawn enough eggs.

Looks pretty freaking awesome.

I'll plan on getting it. Hopefully it's release won't be delayed forever. * Boing glares at Cave Story Wii.

Because it's far easier to translate, perhaps?

But where the hell is Galaxy Colosseum? Seriously, I've never seen a track or battle course with that name, I believe...

It was the first tournament; you had to battle the top guys from Super Mario Galaxy.

I don't recall if it was used again in any later tournaments.

I have the excitebike theme stuck in my head and I cannot stop it!

Also, hopefully La-Mulana Wii will get an on-time release.

I don't see how you can play with X and Y separated like that. It must make it a hassle to shoot fire/cape spin and carry an item at the same time.
Also, your L and R keys seem way off to the side.

Your control scheme is wacky.

Not to mention, the SMA4 e-levels are of a completely different format.
