Acmlm's Board is doomed to have power hungry fags as leaders. No I'm not talking about Ailure's puppet leadership.

Compared to the other 2, Nintendo's was the less disappointing. And I'm not a nintendo fanboy.

It was, knuck? I found Nintendo's quite offensive. All they had to do was appeal to their fans, as they're the ones watching these press conferences.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/7/16/
This pretty much sums it up.

All 3 conferences had something in common: they seemed to appeal to third parties (because of the statistics and the omg we sold a lot bullshit) rather than to fans. Sony's wasn't really impressive. I saw some cool games like Resistance 2, but that kind of game I'd rather play on my computer. Nintendo had nice ideas; the music thing, which everyone seems to hate, I found quite cool. The Wiimote accessory was also interesting. GTA:China Wars is interesting.

Graphics don't make a game. Gameplay makes a game. And since a lot of retro games were good because of their gameplay, in which people looked past the graphics, hence the retro games are good, and the graphics give us nostalgia.

Sure, I agree, gameplay is the most important part of games. However, that does not make graphics the less important part. If people didn't care about graphics, this generation would be made of the Playstation 3 with its zilog z80 at 93mhz, X360 with a 68000 at 120mhz and Wii with a superoverclocked 65841641c6 at whopping 70mhz. Sorry, but nowadays graphics do make a game better.

Posted by Logical Operand
And since when does advanced graphics mean that the graphics are better? There's nothing wrong with 8-bit graphics at all.

There isn't, but for some reason people want realistic graphics.

Posted by Logical Operand
8-bit graphics are simple, they have been proven to work

In 1985.

Posted by Logical Operand
No, they stopped making it because of marketing reasons. Money is the reason we have gotten to this point.
Can you elaborate? I mean, god forbid in a capitalist society money gets things to change.

Posted by Logical Operand
Users don’t pick up a game to evaluate graphics.

See, thats where you're wrong. Unfortunately nowadays there are lots of people who only care about graphics in games.

tl;dr: graphics are important, they just aren't the most important part of a game.

EDIT: If simply because some random person from the videogame industry agrees with you makes you not reply to anyone else's posts, please refrain from arguing at all. It's disrespectful with everyone else.

Keiji Inafune said that. Hence why it was in bold. Don't argue with me. Argue with the man I agree with.

By agreeing with someone you're defend his point, and since you're defending that person's point, you're supposed to be able to reply to any arguments against it.

Yeah the fact gamers do not care about graphics explains:
- Why we have consoles with dozens of CPUs, each one with loads of SPEs or whatever
- Why we have consoles with lots of ram
- Why games are made in HD
- Why nowadays video cards support shitloads of 3D effects and things on the screen at the same time

Yep, you're right, gamers do not care about graphics. It's just a coincidence that not every game out there looks like crash bandicoot or super mario 64.

we kinda reached a point in evolution where... each step isn't really as large as it used to be.

Uh... what? I honestly don't know what you're talking about.

Posted by Ailure
What I mean is, you can't get away with "Awesome graphics".

Crysis.

Posted by Ailure
Dwarf Fortress would be a good example of a immersive games that still requires alot of resources
Uh... can you elaborate? I honestly can't see that zzt clone using 4 cpu cores.

Oh for f... you can't ask for roms. They're illegal.

I say we make a big flashing sticky that says "ROMS ARE ILLEGAL! ASK FOR THEM AND GET PERMABANNED!" in bold, red, blinky text. Maybe underlines and more exclamation marks too...
Because we are in 1999 where companies still care about ROMs... Right.

Seriously though, Wii emulation is something that you probably won't see for a good ten years.
You say that based on what?

We don't even have working Gamecube emulation yet.

That's what he's basing it on.
We have working ps2 emulation.

something about the wii have the best antipiracy hardware
Won't reply to this.

Posted by blackhole89
Yeah, but the PS2 is 8 years old now - and I think it's not reasonable to expect the progress home computers make in the next 8 years to be anything like the progress they made in the past 8.

You do realize that the hardware difference (cpu, gpu etc) between the Gamecube and the Wii is the same difference between a Pentium4 400mhz and a P4 800mhz, correct? The wii uses an 8 year old hardware as well.

Comparing the Wii to the Gamecube is like comparing the Gamecube to the N64.
Uh, I'm sorry, but it isn't. Do your research before spouting anything in here. It would be stupid to compare a PS3 to a PS2, because the difference in processing power is huge. The Wii is just a slightly upgraded gamecube.
