Well, now I know why I instantly preferred this board to the old one as soon as I joined:

http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=10789

As long as this board stays clear from BS like that, I'll be way more motivated to pick up my SMW hack again.

Well, I've only been using the internet since late 1998/1999, and I became interested in Emulation almost immediately through the likes of Zophars Domain. Took me a while to get the hang of things, and eventually in 2001 I strolled across Acmlm's Domain. Registered there and then, and have been a regular user since on the various incarnations of the board.

While I admit I dont post much, I always have been...around. Not that anyone has really noticed.

Been a more regular poster on some other message boards (for example, mortigitempo.com, a radiohead community - which is pretty much the forum where ANYTHING goes. So, I guess this is the board where I've always been more...sensible. ).

Havent really done much in the way of Rom hacking over the past two years actually. Been more interested in film production (starting a job at the BBC's film division in September)...but it's never too late to get back into it.

I know due to the form that my computer is set up as display-wise, this can be seen as being similar to the multi-display thread, I'd like to think of this as a seperate thing entirely - showing the working area of users on this board.

So yeah. I thought maybe it'd be a good idea to see just who has the stupidest/best/messiest/tidiest computer working area. For example, here is mine:

It's pretty awesome, because it means I can play games/watch films/downloaded video on my TV while still being able to use the computer normally on the other screen. And also, when I finally get my HD-TV i've been saving up for, that'll go on the wall to the left of my pc. And that'll be set as the 'top' display - used for programs such as Photoshop and Adobe premiere, due to the high resolution/large screen size. I can then easily view any edited footage on my 28inch widescreen display (which is shown above), and see what it looks like on a conventional TV. Which is HUGELY useful for video editing.

But as you can see, my desk (and room) is a complete and utter mess. I'm terrified to even start to untangle any wires because the world would probably end up imploding or something.

Anyhow. Anyone else got any working areas/computer spaces to share? Hopefully this isnt a redundant thread.

Amazingly original electronica duo from Scotland. One of my favourite 'groups' of all time.

http://www.myspace.com/abeautifulplace

Seriously, have a listen. Pretty amazing stuff. They've released 3 albums so far:

- Music has the Right to Children
- Geogaddi
- The Campfire Headphase

And each one is brilliant. Unlike pretty much anything I've heard before, to be totally honest. In my opinion, MHTRTC and TCH are better than Geogaddi, so I'd start with those first.

But yeah. I was wondering if anyone else here had heard anything by them. If not, you should definately check them out.

They also released on called Boc Maxima but a lot of those songs were on MHTRTC. Anyways, gonna have a listen now to MHTRTC.

Yeah, that was their first demo I think.

They also released a couple of EP's. And also, for anyone else who is interested, that myspace link posted above isnt the greatest selection of tracks - I'd only really reccomend listening to 'Aquarius' on there. But if you like that, definately get a full album.

I find that most of my favourite albums have an underlying theme/aspect to them:

- OK Computer - Radiohead (the modern age - and the problems that come with it)

- Downward Spiral - NIN (the main character's descent down his own downward spiral, until he commits suicide in the last song)

- Deloused in the Comatorium - The Mars Volta (concept album about the experiences the main character goes through while in a coma after attempted suicide. The album ends with his awakening and then his successful suicide)

- Geogaddi - Boards of Canada (the occult)

- Kid A - Radiohead (the end of the world)

- Celestial - ISIS (the album portrays a story of how a tower is built up, and subsequently destroyed, and then the aftermath. According to the band, this 'tower' which is referred to in the songs is supposed to represent a man's love for a woman who betrayed him)

So yeah, you kinda get the idea. I like albums with a concept/theme of some kind, and to be totally honest, there's loads more on the way this year, as well as the 7th Radiohead release, and a new NIN album (Year Zero). So right now, I'm not too worried about the album dying out. As long as theres artists that want to tell a story, there will always be longer releases - theres too much for just one song.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, people, but Wii homebrew is a looong ways away right now.

Sony used RSA encryption on the PSP, and it was still completely and utterly hacked wide open for homebrew.

Right now, there may well be some form of exploit in the Wii's firmware that just hasnt been found yet. If such an exploit is found, then the chances of successful homebrew increase by quite a bit.

I just recolored it to make use of my 15 color palettes. That line-guided machine sprite is so strange I really am at a loss as to how I could redraw it. What is it even supposed to be? It's a blue box that changes shape with weird circles attached. I don't even understand how such a device is supposed to function. Yeah, I've never really liked that thing, but I'm not mechanically-minded enough to make a decent-looking replacement.

If you look at the box, there two red wheels on either side. The rope goes inbetween - it's a pulley system.

So yeah, I found a CD earlier that I made in May 2006 with a load of music I've wrote over the past few years (since 2003 apparently, like the last track), and I've decided to upload it. Some pretty weird/demented stuff there, and some tracks are way better than others. But ah well.

There's 12 tracks altogether, and the final track's a WMA file, the rest are mp3...but I can recode/reupload that single track if thats a problem for anyone?

And here's the download link (in a RAR archive):

http://www.mediafire.com/?9c2mmmzjkjy

Anyway. If anyone could listen and give me some feedback of like, what parts are strongest and what kind of style I should work on most for some new stuff, that'd be great.

Nice work Most of these ambient tunes would fit in nicely in an Earthbound, Super Metroid, or Chrono Trigger setting, though they don't sound exactly like anything from those games.

My favorites are Parallel, Outside in Roflmaomg, Alone, Klnewfew!, 12MeMIE, and Blinds.

For improvements, I'd suggest having that "woop woop woop" sound in A Cat called Demento Bob (the one that gets louder toward the end) do something else. By the end of the track it gets annoying, and having it grow in volume as well as end with it just maximizes that annoyance. I'd say experiment with having it fade in and out, and don't let it get so loud by the end.

Parts of Klnewfewtwo! are a bit repetitive, but I'm not sure what to suggest about that. It sounds good otherwise.

Alone could stand to have some variation in the flurries of notes that repeat throughout most of the track. And perhaps soften their volume just a bit so it doesn't interrupt the atmosphere of loneliness when they sound off.

The opening steel drum (?) sounds in Terry Wogan seem to be recorded through a low-quality device with a noticeable static hiss that suddenly disappears and reappears when they do. Sometimes that sort of thing is deliberate, and maybe that's the case here, but if that could be remedied, I think it would improve the overall sound.

I think I'll be cleaning my house today with this on the ol' iPod.

Thanks!

Yeah, that repeating noise on the cat track was actually an accident due to a delay feedback I remember.

And the first few tracks (such as Terry Wogan), were created after a day of me going around hitting various household objects, and then just experimenting with the sounds...that steel drum like sound is actually a saucepan being hit with a spoon. And it was all recorded with a crappy tie-clip mic, which was actually kinda useful.

Here's something else I just did in literally 5 minutes, it's a variation on the Midna's Desperation theme from Twilight Princess.

I'm 90% deaf right now due to a full on earwax blockage.

Getting my ears syringed on friday, though.

Sorry about the double post, but seeing as I have something new to add - ah well.

Here's a track I wrote and mixed tonight, which I feel is a bit of an achievement due to the fact that right now, I'm 90% deaf in both ears due to earwax .

But yeah. Here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/?8zt2ttk00mz

I havent got a clue what genre it is, but it mixes orchestral elements with some experimental elements and at its main section, a fast beat. Not sure if the mixing is alright or not, because of my hearing at the moment.

But yeah, opinions would be great if anyone could have a listen! I feel its much better than the other stuff I've posted previously. Thanks.
