Ah, hello there. I'm not an oldbie Acmlm-wise, but I do originate from 2000 over at a place called VGF (Still running, by the way.)
From past experience, I find the best way tp recover from being gone for several years is to post where the activity is and take a sample of people's opinions. Also, FYI, this board has changed repeatedly. You may already know that, but for example, the coding of Board 1 is completely gone. Nobody uses it. The other board switched to its own system, and this one switched too. It's probably only used in a few places now... A lot has changed, mainly the community has returned to a small and close-knit one. Sim-battling is dead, as are many categories. I see less rom hacking and more talking. Furthermore, far less emphasis is put on forum features. These and many more are likely to make using this place bizarre. Most of the stuff goes on in the IRC these days, though, which probably explains the rarity of stuff. |

Honestly, I don't care either way. What annoys me is in-betweens, though. If we're gonna have them, have them; otherwise, don't.
It doesn't do anybody any good to talk about maturity or stuff. You well know somebody will screw it up; it's just a question of whether that can be cleaned up every time it happens, like Board3. Myself, I feel layouts for all would be fine, as long as there was a way to disallow it to people who abuse it, and the same possibility with sigs, etc. |

All nations make mistakes, and it'd be hypocritical to blame the entire United States on one area's Emergency service absolutely sucking. Not to mention an unfounded blame; who says the other ones are this bad?
Furthermore, if we're going to bash countries based on a single instance of bad amenities, why not bash all of them? I mean, I don't even know of a country which hasn't had a goof this big in some department. Do you? |

While I understand the dislike of the 'noobish' sentiment of pro-graphics, sitting here ranting about it actually implies you think it's worth addressing. If it's truly the garbage you call it, then we don't even need to know it exists.
Furthermore, G/S/C's graphics do deserve an upgrade. New people may not understand why things changed back then, but they have a point: why not glorify the old, good stuff with some graphics worthy of it? Of course, announcing a best '...' ever is ridiculous, especially with hacks, as they all do different tasks, and thus, rarely is there direct competition. It would be more constructive to inform those who believe that graphics are everything the flaws in their opinion, and, given that knowledge, ask them if they still believe in their misdirected philosophy. Also, the time spent discussing this would be better served trying to organize or steer the scene towards more fulfilling hacks than simple image upgrades. |
