I started my time with Acmlm's Board way back in Dec of 1999. I was working on my kafuka ROM hacking project which started off with SMB3. I went to him to discuss intergeneration of some of the Allstars research I had collected, along with that of the long lost hacker MarioExpert. We struck up a friend ship over a time and discussed various matters on rom hacking to the emulation scene. By the time Christmas rolled around he was fed up with the wwwthreads board ZTnet provided for him. This gave him the chance to work on something new, something he could make on his own to suit his own style. If I remeber correctly the core functions of (registration, posting, and threads) were done by the end of the first nite. About 2 days into this I was talking to him and he said he was working on a new web board. I guess this is the point where people would say ".. and the rest was history" but not quite yet.
The testers of the time were some of the leading ROM hackers at the time. Luigi Plays Bass (I forget his more common handle, he was the one who did the flash of Mario Twins as well), BMF was there, and a few from FFL (Final Fantasy Legend) Phoenix, and others. I was made Administrator shortly as a joke. I had asked in a joking way and well ended up with it once status were implemented. I help Acmlm has out structure ideas and a few coding changes here and here. The day of opening was around Jan 21 2000. Within a week and a half the board was overloaded and would eat posts. The goal, once discovered became to get an sql db, and implement it in short order. Once completed, that began the first golden age. We saw many memberable individuals such as Danicess, Mesia, XKeeper, Bouche, and countless others. After an event that involved management of FFL and crossover with Acmlms I left for a while to clear my head, as I often do... and that is the end of my story for now. I've worked on many things in my "netlife" but my time at Acmlm's is in the top 5 without any question. I started off as an advisor to vMac, worked on an IRC network once called "meatnet" started tRO and worked with many of the guys at eAthena and in the RO community, and more recently I've been working on scifihero.net and "another" project that eveyone knows about but shall remain nameless. scifihero.net is the reorg of sg-command.net. Much like what happened here, happened there. It was a nightmare too. I had to try to keep the split from destroying everything we all worked for. It worked out over there. Things are still slow, and I have had no time to anything with my anime costuming section, but scifihero, survived. I have not nor shall I ever completely vanish from the internet or any project I ever work for or on. I may take my leave, or be like the wind. EmuNET'S stability was in direct proportion to the other servers we had. Our bandwidth and stability on my personal server varied because of the connection at the time. Needless to say stability will only be indicated in us, but it should be much better than before.

I am an old geezer in a way. I've been off and on this board alone for 10 years. I was there since day two. Now I've lost contact with many many people over these years, I still have contact with some too.
The fickle nature of the internet, I think this board will continue one in some form for a long time after even this generation stops posting. It outlived Acmlm and Myself. The code powers two RO servers' front ends, and a few other forums. I stopped working on EmuNET and Bouche continued the idea a new with his IRC services. Connections with people can remain, it just takes effort on both parties to do so.

While at work on Friday I decided to signup for the Windows Seven Beta. I did this once before with Windows 2k back in the late nineties. (Come to think about it around this time 10 years ago). I first installed it on one of our test machines at works and it actually didn't completely suck. I spent some time running some basic tests. The UAC starts at 3/4 and isn't asking you every 5 minutes to allow/deny. It was quite good about finding drivers on both systems. This afternoon I installed a copy on my second partion on my MBP. I'll be playing with it off and on and if anyone has any questions about it, I'll try answering them for you.

Indeed as Kawa shows you can get the bar to look almost like the traditional task bar. There is a setting to only have it create the icon bar when the dock is crowded as well.

I was working on setting up a machine to test Win 7. I was doing "work" on it as well. It's linked in though synergy so it's basically just another part of the whole thing so I included it.
This took me 20 minutes to actually make and post. It's three screens two 1680x1050 and one 1280x800. It's actually so big I used jpeg to make it and not my usual PNG. Also if you want to really lazy, I believe VLC will do it for you, just won't look quite as nice, The option is File->Convert/Save.

This board from it's inception has these same points in time where the incoming population slows, and the current members seem to just be inactive. We are have our own projects, it's a nature of the members of this board. I know I have two active projects right now plus a few off to the side. ToS fell victim to the same things sadly. However it's not completely dead, and it could grow again.
I found my notes from the SMB3 when I worked with MarioHacker on getting SMAS's SMB3 hacks up to par with the NES ones. I am nostalgic too for those times sometimes myself. If registration is limited, than there will be a slow growth. However that's not always a bad thing either. The more things to do on the site, the more you have to offer etc. I still feel it's just another one of those down trends that will correct itself in time. ____________________ "You must delete this ROM after 24 hours" |

The Board and IRC are two sides of the same coin. The board is the reason for the IRC channel. The Channel brings forth more ideas towards the forums. While it may seem to get more activity, and often it does.. the board is the key.
