I didn't really get much on christmas, but I'm really happy with what I got.

For me, I don't cheat unless I've played the game through once completely, with exception with RPGs where I sometimes cheat half-way through in order to weaken my characters or make the monsters stronger (see: Breath of Fire series), or to skip along the story of an RPG I played but left for a while so I can remember what I have to do (happened in many FF games).

And for the sake of rom-hacking or testing out game patches, cheating is really handy so you don't need to continuously go from start to the finishing point (the case with a few DS games)

It's hard to say what will happen with this place - I can imagine blackhole keeping it up even if it's only a few regulars and then some who frequent the place by then, but who knows. By then, I can probably see IRC being used more often than the board.

Many people are leaving this place as it is, although we're getting newer members too. When Lazy Shell is finished and they do setup a forum here I can see an influx of romhacking people coming in (the same which happened with JUL and SM64) which in turn will probably start increasing the activity here.

The board would also need some sort of enforcement on people who just go around and say everythings horrible and are harsh on newbies who are romhacking. A lot of people have left just because people jump on them when they do one thing wrong, and when other people see posts such as these, especially when the admins do nothing about it, they most likely won't post either.


For me, I'll probably start visiting this place less due to more demanding things in real life, but I can still see this place being up for another.. oh, 3 - 4 years? After that, I don't know what will happen. By then I'll probably have stopped coming here altogether

I don't think the SMB3 hacking community is even close to being able to do what you're demanding for the features. Do you realise how hard it would be to code half the things you've listed? You'd be easier coding a game from scratch.

How would you plan to implement an experience system? How would you implement unlockables into the current system? How would you add other characters to SMB3 and what about their abilities, how would make them seperate from power-ups? Theres so many things that you haven't thought of probably. There isn't any way those would work as far as I know. Like I said, if you're actually wanting to go through with this the best way to get it done would not be through hacking SMB3, but by starting your own game from scratch.

Although I could be wrong about SMB3 hacking, but it really does seem like 75% of this would be impossible to do through ROM hacking, sorry to say, but if not, someone can correct me.

The thing is, anyone who posts in this thread are obviously going to be nostalgic sonic lovers. No one has actually given a good reason why the 3D games suck (oh okay just because you don't like the way it looks or plays doen't mean it's a shit game) but state (without a good reason either) that every 2D game is the best thing ever to walk the face of the earth.

I think the opposite. I think, you know, after 10 years of the series, the old games got extremely dull and boring. Playing the exact same stages over, and over, and over doesn't really appeal to me, especially over such a long period of time (and even more when you can complete some of the stages in 20 ~ 40 seconds flat, where is the fun in that?) There isn't anything exciting about these games now and theres nothing that would keep people interested in it except for all the people who loved the games from when they were kids etc.

After genesis, in my opinion, the games got better, up to the point of the Wii being released. The Sonic Rush games were fun and interesting to play, you know, because it was different, along with SA2. Pre-genesis, I'd probably play the sonic games at most with 3 playthroughs then give it up for years. Atleast with those games, there was enough replay value in it to keep me interested with it (Missions in SA2, Story modes in Sonic Rush etc). Even if the latest games aren't the best, atleast they are trying something new. Some people will like it, some won't, but saying that it's the absolute shit for the reason "2D games were good hur" is the stupidest thing I've seen.

If Sonic Team USA are bored of creating the series, it shows you how boring the game actually is. If they felt that 2D games were that amazing, they would obviously make more. As long as some people like the new Sonic games, I don't see any problem. If sonic team USA give it up, Japan will just take over it most likely, or equally stop the series.

My old name, Omi, was chosen through blind typing initials for scores on soul calibur years ago, and I decided to keep it since it sounded pretty decent.

My current name is based off the phoenix wright character (not waiting for godot, blackhole) Godot who is a pretty cool (like me) person that is very witty (unlike me) and is straight to the point.

I will most likely change my name to something else (read: bug blackhole to do it) over time, since I tend to get bored of having the same name all the time (which is why it would be cool if we could purchase name changes from the item shop )
