A better idea might be to make a program that can copy levels, overworld and some other stuff to (and possibly from) an SMA2 ROM... The level formats are extremely close (two additional header bytes is all I've found), so copying a level from SNES to GBA would simply be to find free space in the GBA ROM and paste (a very slightly changed) SNES level into it.

Maybe you can go for it that was planned for Lunar Magic but wasn't finished and support Super Mario Brothers 2 (the game with the vegetables) for the GBA aswell? It would be really cool to hack that game since the NES version is crappy and the SMB2 Discombobulator don't works for me for the SNES version.

Wow. Just... fucking wow...

(...I was THIS close to starting a flame war.)

Actually, the dating game was removed a few versions ago. Go back two or three versions in a hex editor and you'll find the strings.

SMW uses the Fixed Color Data register for its background colors. Write the new colors to it.

Some info from some random page I found on Google:

2132  wb+++- COLDATA - Fixed Color Data
bgrccccc

b/g/r = Which color plane(s) to set the intensity for.
ccccc = Color intensity.

So basically, to set an orange you'd do something along the lines of:
LDA #$3f
STA $2132
LDA #$4f
STA $2132
LDA #$80
STA $2132

(Holy crap, I'm actually posting here!)

Interesting idea. I've actually had similar ideas for SMW, except that the challenges were global (Three challenge types, one per save file) instead of level specific. I've also considered making an achievement system for SMW, filling a similar function, but I never got anywhere near enough achievement ideas to develop it at all.

I'll let you get away with stealing my old secret idea, as long as you don't steal my current secret idea.
