Oh boy, Zel released a new version of Shiny Gold, and people are going absolutely crazy and exaggerating that every flat out pixel added to the game is pure awesomeness.

Pokecommunity fails (a word that I don't use very often).

I was going to go to a party, but I was just too damn tired and decided to sleep instead (I was up for the last 22 hours, don't ask). It was worth it.

I haven't had dental insurance for almost 2 years, now that I finally do, I'm scared to find out the news of my teeth...

Deaf, like most people here, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't see.

Alright it's time to release a new beta tomorrow!

I'm very happy about this version, it adds a ton of new elements and game play to the Pokemon Universe. I want you all to give it a try and let me know what you think, I've really put lots of thought into each feature of this game. Also, I've made an attempt to make the game have an overall different feeling than Pokemon Gold, because well, this is NOT Pokemon Gold.

Lots of work has been done (MUCH more than the previous version, which I now loathe.), so give it a try and I'm sure you'll be surprised.

After I'm done with Prism I'll probably work on my own original game. Plus I'm working on a side project that will sure enhance Prism's game play.

... plus admins, would it be ok if i made a new topic with the next beta's release? That citation needed thing still won't let me display anything, even when editing.

I just updated the old version with a couple of bug fixes.

Download the New Beta! (1/21/08)

Thanks, now the old thread can rot in hell for all I care. Make sure to read the Readme before playing!

... I'm not touching Pokemon Gold again for at least a month. Infact, I'm simply sick of Pokemon for now. Was "fun", but I need to focus on my other hack now.

It's a Zelda 1 hack with a unique approach: This hack does not take place anywhere in the Zelda universe.

I'm trying to make an original storyline from scratch, with my own characters and everything else. Not basing the story or plot off of somebody else's work (well... except Zelda I's base game). There is no Link, no Zelda, no Hyrule, no monsters that appear in Zelda, just my ideas. This is my world, and I want to take advantage of it with nothing but M imagination. With Pokemon, you just can't do that.

Plus, I'll probably have a new beta of Prism out in a few months, with another one of my works that will support Prism and Brown.

2008's going to be a great year.

screenshots are always nice.

... I knew I forgot something. The font's different than in the screenshots BTW, made the change after I took those.

GLITCHES:
A few things are glitchy, but will not interrupt game play.
A. Minor Pallet glitches.
B. Phone calls will have people asking you about "?????" and talk about incorrect locations. Just ignore this, or don't get their phone number. It will be dealt with later for I'm adding a new feature regarding this that didn't get done in time.
C. SOME text might overlap the border, while others provide large blank spaces. I did my best to find them all, but I'm sure theres a few I missed, so don't freak out.
D. On the Town Map, your sprite will look like Hiro and Red no matter what, but don't worry it doesn't affect it on the actual overworld.
E. "Dude" will show the incorrect back graphic
F. Your back graphic in battle will not change based on what sprite you are (besides male/female), we'll add this in the future.
G. Sometimes viewing options on the main menu will make the text box glitchy.
H. Probably a few other minor things.

I dl'd it yesterday, and it's pretty amazing. I like how different the game is from the source material, it feels like a completely different game. I just have one issue. I'm in Laurel City, and I can't figure out where to go. Maybe I'm just really hopelessly dumb, but I can't help but think there's a glitch or something that's holding me back. If you could point me in the right direction, that would be super.

Laurel's the end of the beta, but theres other things you can do even if you reached it. Just need to explore Naljo.

Yes ROM Hacking can be a very time consuming hobby, however I tend to view it in a different light. One day, I hope to become a game designer, and with ROM hacking (complete rewrites), I'm learning what makes a good game. One of most important things I've learned is to make the overall experience fun from start to finish, and I still have a lot to learn. So, I suppose my ROM Hacks are just practice before I make real games.

The week before Prism's latest beta release, my life was basically Prism (as well as eating, drinking, sleeping and using the bathroom). I kind of felt empty inside when all I did was ROM hack all day, as well as question myself "Is all this hard work worth it?". I can totally understand where you're coming from.

However, if you're older, you obviously won't be able to spend as much time on it, since you have to worry about the real world. It really matters what kind of situation you're in. As we all know, time seems to go faster as you get older, but worrying about "How much time you have left" isn't a good way to live. We should just live our lives doing what we want, and then when it's time, we'll all die; theres no escaping from death. I mean, there are other time consuming hobbies that take up way more time than ROM hacking. If you're feeling like it's a waste of time, take a break, and when (or if) you're motivated work on it again, go ahead. Usually works for me, but motivation seems to come at random times.

HEY DO YOU NO WHERE I MAY FIND P.E.T HACKING TOOLS

If you know anything about PET at all, you know that it is a singular hacking tool in itself.

Is it bad that I've banned him on the spot?

No, I think you did the right thing...

On a side note, It seems that 99% of posts in Pokecommunity are praise for hacks. the other 1% are the first post in a thread where the hackers update, seriously. There seems to be no criticism, only praise on that board. Polar opposite of SMW hacking communities.

I never thought of it that way... when I criticized the hack the author would usually go apeshit on me, or better yet, cancel their hack just because of what I said. (happened twice on two "Remakes" of Gold/silver). And I realize Zel's fine, but the fans are going crazy over nothing.

I've been to SMW Central a few times out of curiosity, and their expectations are high, and they should be. However, there needs to be a good balance between, I think some of the people on that site are too harsh (well actually I wouldn't really know, since I don't hack SMW. They might all be pure shit in their eyes).

Pokemon hacking has lots of potential, but when you have 30 gold and silver remakes being made, and other hacks where people barely edit the maps and put legendary Pokemon on the first route where they sell master balls for free on the first mart and make all the characters gay as the majority of Pokemon Hacks, then it just defines Pokemon Hacking overall for those who don't know much about it and it's potential. Theres lots of things people can do with Pokemon Hacking, but they're not doing it.

Ever heard the phrase “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you will not have to listen to his incessant whining about how hungry he is.”. Well this in my view relates to Pokemon Hacking. If you just give some kid some program, s/he'll know how to edit that ONE thing, but will have no idea on how the data is stored. However, if you teach a person how to hack into the game and change things that editors don't allow, then s/he'll understand better on how hackings actually done, and in the future can hack other things that editors won't allow.

Re to my old post: I just realized that PET comes with Elite Map... seriously how could he miss that?

I don't think that's quite how that phrase goes.

Yeah I know, but I can relate to that situation.

I'm sure we've all had messed up dreams.

So I was walking in front of this red house that was build right in front of my house, and it had a calendar on it saying it was October 19th so I went inside and it was a big swimming pool. So I go in the pool and I see everyone having a good time. Then all of a sudden, I realize something - this is a dream. The entire world freezes around me, and I start floating, then some messed up head comes and screams right in front of my floating body. I then "wake up" and I'm in my bed, and I cannot move at all. I cannot even breathe. I notice something in the distance crawling up towards me... my closet opens up and sucks me in while I'm still paralyzed. Afterwards, I'm on some sort of stage and I can move again everyone says "hi"! Then someone named Jerome comes and says "My name is Jerome. It's spelt J-E-R-O-M-E." I find an exit to my house and I noticed that the rooms were all moved around, and then I go to my living room where someone ordered a big pizza and its cheese is stretched all around the room. I cannot 'touch' it in 48 hours or else we can't eat it. Suddenly I'm at school and then a narrator talks about something... can't remember. Then credits roll down the screen. As soon as the credits end, I wake up.

I'm curious to hear others, mainly to convince myself that I'm not the only one who's totally insane. I had the weirdest dreams when I was a kid, and I kind of miss having those kinds of dreams. They were very entertaining to look back upon, now days I don't dream at all for some reason... except on a few occasions, but they aren't as messed up as they were.
