there's a pattern for chill penguin, i'm still workin on trying to figure out why the hit bits arent working for the rabbit, i have them set correctly, and I can always adjust the snow throwing machine's cmp of mm's x position.

just wanted to say again that what you see and play in that chill penguin level is not sketched in stone. as you tell with chill penguin, i borrowed the dust crusher from dustman. I can make it so it "doesnt" stop at megamans X position, but I've been running into trouble with telling it to activate the other asm when it hits a wall. I totaly understand everyones frustration with fighting him, but this will not be the final result. I plan to actualy have him do almost everything the same as in MMX. Thank you everyone for the very kind comments

Thanatos-Zero

I appreciate your comments on the storyline, but I already have things in motion for how I want to bring X to life. I'm going on personal experience with what I've grown up with. In my lifetime I've been around the entire nes series, and all of the X series. I've never gotten into any of the other spinoffs, especially the zero games. I've always been a megaman fan. So it's the classic and X series that I've spent my whole life devoting countless time to.

Also, with rom hacks you need to suspend disbelief. I know chill penguin is from the X series. I'm trying to bring something fresh to the rom hacking community, and something fresh to MM hacks as well. I'm bringing something that hasn't been done in MM hacks, so you need to take this with consideration that this is a rom hack. I'm not from Capcom, I'm not a storywriter, this is all from a 27 year old fan that loves megaman to death, and wants to tell his own story.

I wish I could tell you how this will all play out, but I can't. The storyline is the backbone to this project, as I'm creating an "unofficial" bridge from the classic to X series.

I'm not here to flame you, or anything in that manner. I thank you for taking the time for writing, I just want to make myself clear about how I want to present this storyline.

Thanatos-Zero, i'm not to sure if ill attempt my own "warning" logo. I'm happy you were able to see the pattern for chill penguin, and to even not get hit. I'm looking forward to throwing the other 7 robot masters at ya As for the "Fight Megaman" quote. I'm pretty content with what I have. I've thought about it when I began writing the pre-into, to me it just didn't fit with the theme that I'm trying to bring, this game will be containing a very dark theme. Very excited, just wish I had more time so I could get this out ASAP. My asm skills are really good now where I can say for sure this will be released in 2009.

Insectduel, thank you very much

once again, I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support for my project.

Happy New Year!

i also edited the snow machines cmp of mm's X position.

once again Thanatos - Zero, I'll be adding you to the credits of this rom.

OK, this is the final update to the beta that i'm doing. Thank you Thanatos-Zero for pointing out the warning & mm gfx glitch. This final ips includes...

1) The fixed warning logo when returning to chill penguin
2) megaman's gfx are now fixed when hit by chill penguin
3) chill penguins music "fades" when entering his room

Now Thanatos-Zero, let me try to answer everything you posted.

-When Chill Pinguin make his appearance and presents himself to the player, a hole in his body can be seen. You may have used the BG Colour on him by accident.
Change that.

This is due to me exceeding the 8 tile sprite limit. chill penguin has alot of tiles being used to display different colors and such. He's a fat bastard, and it doesnt help that megaman's lower body uses 3 tiles, then add about 6 to 7 for chill's lower section.

-When Rock gets damaged, a hand or something appears behind him in his colours. Remove that please.
Fixed

- If you lose against the boss and challenges against him again, the warning won't stop.
Fixed

-The Warning is to near on the Buster Icon. Move the Warning 8 or 16 pixels more to right.
I'm keeping it this way. Im comfortable with this position. I actualy have this positioned perfectly in MegaFLEX. During my testing of this, I actualy had it centered in the middle of the room, but I didn't like it that way. If you watch any warning screen in Megaman X4, its high up, like the way i have it. And if you fight Web Spider, you'll see part of the W hidden behind MM's health & weapon bar. So...I'm keeping it this way because I like it.

-Try to make the Warning appear like in X4, first the letters from left to right and than let the underline appear in the middle, which will fill left and right simultanly in the same moment.
Also make the Warning sound a bit slower, in order to made it more dramatic. The sound should be then repeated 3 or 4 times ( 4 or 5 at all).

This is very space consuming to attempt, and I'm severly limited if you can believe it or not with this rom being expanded. I would have to perform several chr page swappings to perform it, and I wouldn't have been able to. I was actualy attemping to have it appear from left to right with a nametable refresh, but I was having problems keeping the upper left nametable as the boss room, and try to make the upper right nametable as the WARNING screen. Cause in Megaman 4, the nametable refresh does a slow wipe from left to right. It was perfect, but it just couldnt work. So the way you see it now in the beta, is most likely going to be the last time i screw with it.

-Do not forget to make the Stage music to disappear. It would make the Warning more cool and then Boss music shall appear after the Darkness.
I only did this now cause you asked. Down the road i was going to, but I figured i'd just get it out of the way now. The code I wrote for the warning asm is about 1A0 bytes, pretty big. There's still no boss music cause I'm not done with the sound engine. So dont be surprised to hear no boss music, cause there is none.

-One last thing, give Chill Pinguin his Boss Invincible Time back. Also, his Healtmeter won't go down. However, he can die.
I hope that helps you.^^

This was a pretty major glitch in my hack. I have major mini-bosses that I was able to design custom asm for, and use the boss meters, and they would work correctly. For some reason my 8 robot masters health meters were not depleting. The reason why chill penguin was so easy to defeat, was because it was depleting only it's HP, and not going through the entire asm of also depleting his health meter. So I found the problem, and now everyone is back to normal in my hack.

I'm greatful for your excitement, but I already have the soundtrack for this rom set. I'm also all set with this project, so i honestly dont need any additonal assistance. I'm very happy to know that I can come to you with design questions/requests, that I wont be able to find on sprites.inc.

Thanks again

my absolute favorites are I & III.

kuja I cant' agree with you more on Dustman's level. The jumps in that level had to be pixel perfect, friggin crazy. and you had to be careful cause some enemies would come over whatever pit you were trying to jump over, and if your not ready you get hit and fall, ugh

On the bunnie situation, I've been having an odd error when seting the property bits for this particular enemy. I've done this with every enemy and have had success, but for some reason this enemy will not allow me to make it so it can deal damage to Megaman when it comes in contact.

The snowball thrower. heh, i had a feeling someone would walk backwards through the level This glitches because I have the snowball thrower and the bunnie sharing the same gfx loaction. That's why when you just move through the level from left to right, everything seems seemless, but if you walk left and have both the bunnie and snowball thrower on the screen, it will glitch, cause the ppu bank i'm using has both it's gfx sharing it. This is a beta, and I never intended to fix that for this beta. That's the beauty of beta

Thank you very much for your kind comments, and thank you for trying it out

chill penguin will not be like this in the final. basicly what he is, is a slightly modified version of diveman. I removed his missiles, and replaced the asm with the Dust Crusher, and I changed his body bit property for when he slides towards you, like it is in MMX. But once again, he will not be like this in the final, he will be completly different.

I've always used TLP for doing tile insertions into roms, I'm more comfortable with that tile editor. BUT, YY-CHR is what I use when inserting .bmp files into a rom. Kuja showed me this program, and you get the best result when inserting a .bmp into a rom. I've tried doing imported bitmaps with TLP and Tile Molester, and they always seem to get garbaged up a bit, but YY-CHR does the trick in that dept.

So in a nutshell, I use TLP to insert tiles from other roms, and to see what address certain tiles are in the rom, & I use YY-CHR to import bitmaps and do fancy tile rotations, movements, color swaps to multiple tiles.

YamiMario, WOW thank you for that link. I'm extremely humbled by viewing that. I sound like a broken record, but I'm just still amazed at the dedication and attention Megaman Ultra has received throughout the years from everyone.

Also about the capsule scene, i've had the idea to make it so wily is infront of some sort of CPU activating the capsule. I just never gotten around to it. Plus this CPU will have to be a sprite image since all of my BG tiles are used up by everything you see in that scene.

Thanatos-Zero - progress has been slow, trying to juggle this project and my personal life is pretty hectic, I usually see from 2 to 3 days worth of messing around with the hack, putting in probably a total of near 15-20 hrs a week. My laptop's hdd shit the bed, and I'm short on cash to go out and buy a replacement hdd for it, so that cuts my time even more. But with the time i've had to work with, there's been good progress. I've been writing boss asm from scratch, and getting fantastic results. I've been working on 1 level for months now, but it's 75% complete. After that level is done, progress will increase dramaticly. Thanks for asking

well we all know that Chill Penguin will be in this, but that's all I can say on that matter. But I am creating a mix of different bosses to appear in this hack. I have the capability to accomplish this, and have made great success. So none of the 8 robot masters or all the castle bosses in Megaman 4 will be in this hack. I can assure you this rom will be a pretty wild ride down memory lane for die-hard/hardcore Megaman fans!
